- Michelle Steilen, also known in the roller derby world as Estro Jen is the owner of Moxi Roller Skates and Moxi Shop. She is a star in the Long Beach roller derby scene and she does a lot to push and promote anything and everything roller skating related. Since we make Rollerbones, our roller derby company, and all the roller derby ladies skate Bones Bearings, we wanted to do something to show support to all the derby ladies who support us. We came up with an idea to do something a little be different and decided to film some stuff at some famous skateboard spots in Los Angeles. We really had no idea how this would turn out. Hope you all enjoy this video by Vern Laird.

@@fleurtjefleur8941 😆 my comment should reflect that... Yes as a child skating rinks were common and then you graduated to blades. Skipping off rails and stairs spinning like an idiot landing almost everything because the skates are fucking attached. Then around 12 or 13 you get your skateboarding itch because you know it is the real test. If you can't acknowledge that roller skating is simply a matter of balance and nothing more than I don't know that you have ever had some on... Same thing can be said for snowboarding though. Yet they can perform magic on a pipe so you let me know when this chick steps her game up to the actual extreme and then I'll be down to kiss her ass.

This video did so many things for me a 14 year old; it inspired me to skate, it’s how I learned about bikini kill, and later on taught me what feminism was, this video was more revolutionary than most people think, I probably watched it like 100 times.
This made me weirdly emotional. I am in my early thirties and growing up, most of my best friends were skaters so I grew up watching videos like this and bemoaning that I couldn't skateboard. I am an adult now and I play derby and I feel strangely....embraced? Just that this video exists? Please make more of these!

I live with my strict overprotective asian parents and it feels so suffocating being the only girl. I wish I can feel as free as this girl on the video. I want to try roller skating too but I bet it'd be restricted because it's too "dangerous." I feel like I can't even enjoy my teenage years and once I enter adulthood, it'd never be the same anymore. I still have 4 years left until I become 20 but I always feel like the time is so short. sorry for the small rant, must be the quarantine's fault.
hello, I was the oldest and only daughter of four children in an Asian fam growing up and now I skate aggressive on the streets. Things get better, get them skates. Enjoy being free on them.

I'm going to tell you as an adult with eastern parents. You just gotta do what you wanna do. Roller skating can be dangerous. Protective gear is a must.

Actually there are fellas/guys doing flips with no hands off and on a ramp, and doing tricks and I also see mostly guys doing tricks off rails and stairs while the girls mostly are just skating around and doing turns, im sorry to bust your bubble but let's not make this about gender shall we

I hate when it when my brain forgets where my feet are and my skates get crossed....and then I fall.
Sometimes I forget I have skates and I remember once I hit the ground - and I'm an advance skater! ...CRAZY - but love the sport
Any material that exists beyond the foot (what the brain knows about) will not be reliably calculated during high speed movement even after decades of practice, especially if you're swapping out different boots/trucks/wheels/caps all the time.
All these trick look sooo much more rad on old school roller skates. She is one hard core skater with awesome tricks and the slams she takes too...impressive.

In case of the former, "scaling" basically just means climbing. Scaling a fence means that you started at the bottom of the fence and then you got to the top of the fence. The word "scale" usually has a more rugged connotation than "climb" but that's not necessarily inherent to the word.

What's wrong? She was both in the league where she got her rep and is the owner of moxi skates she sold the store it self to someone else as in the physical location but she runs the company
Fair enough if you skate board you'll likely pick up on roller skating a little easier balance wise but trust me I've been on both ends and blading and I can say not being able to kick out can be pretty gnarly, though skaters probably would still not do the best they dont compare to bikes and scooters especially bikes since they go from something so big with the handle bars to something so small without they would definitely have more trouble on them. In all honesty if you already do another sport be it skateboarding bmx and yes even scooter you would likely pick up another discipline pretty quickly, which happens all the time. Vs. Someone who has done none

Female skateboarders have been around for decades. If anything, it's more interesting that skateboarding has embraced a rollerskater. Which is especially weird because rollerskating is partially responsible for creating the skateboard.

I could watch her all damn day...I'm a skater at heart but I love folks that can roller these spots. I remember being at Mt. Trashmore in Va Beach and some cat was there, ripping the ramp on roller skates. Crazy stance...left skate pointing front, right skate pointing rear. This was about the time the McTwist was THE trick for skaters and you had to have one in your routine if you wanted to even place in the top ten. So in between the pro skateboarders, the roller skate guys were hitting the ramp and tearing it up...1040s, inverts and grinds...but all on skates. Amazing to watch them.
