    I remember early 90's ....fresh from college, working hard, getting little from so much effort, but trying to find my own way, my own voice, the meaning for life....ah...whatever...and coming back from work, crowded trains, tired faces, worn out bodies...listening to songs like Seasons on the radio..then all clicked..That's life, you'll never be in control of everything but everything you think worth living...live it. Man, I miss Chris Cornell every time I remember those tough days...with a wry smile on the face.

    The fact that I'm a 58 year old man and The Seattle Music Scene in the late 80s early 90s was unquestionably the Mecca for generational talent. Chris, Andy, Layne, Kurt, Mark, Mike, Shannon, and the many others which are too many to list that have passed, were like Dark Angels roaming the planet. We should all be extremely grateful for the gifts they shared the short time they were ALL with us. For people like myself who can personally relate to this genre of music I say 'Thank You,' Unknowingly you helped so many and are missed by millions.... especially this 58 year old man.

    Seasons isn't only one of Chris's greatest songs. It's one of the best Americana songs of all time. The lyrics evoke lonely forest roads, abandoned buildings, snow covered landscapes. It is the definition of folk music.

      It also shows the loss of the steel industry it shows how war and drugs have torn through this country but life just keeps rolling baby. Rock and roll baby rock and roll. Folk and blue became rock and roll and it represents America’s history of much much suffering rolling into the future like how the train evolved in American history. It’s all electric and digital now. Same with music, our lives, it’s all related.

    The words, I'll never find, to describe how his songs make me feel. Thank God!, we had Christopher Cornell in our world. I'm jealous of the world that has him now. Being selfish, I believe was unlike Chris and its embarrassing that we can't all be more like him. That might be the message we need, to help stop the depression that softly kills us.

    I’m depressed. It is confusing to me why everyone else isn’t. I’ve wanted and tried to be done. Art like this helps me feel “not alone “. I’ve finally learned that I’ll never seek my own end. I thank myself first and foremost but I have to give huge thanks to artists like Chris. These words are the best description of depression I’ve ever heard.

      As someone who has battled with depression over the years, all I can tell you is that you're not alone. I know it feels that way but truth is that many are suffering and most people try to cover it up, to appear strong in public. But privately they're suffering badly. Some people seek help, others try to deal with it themselves with varying degrees of success. Sadly, some don't survive it (Chris being one of them). My advice is simply to keep doing things that give you enjoyment (whatever it may be) and don't let anyone stop you from it (so long as it's not hurting anyone, of course). Stay strong.

    As someone who has suffered from depression for over half my life, I understand.. you can put on a brave face. You can slap on a smile and fool the world, including those closest to you. The Dark never leaves. It can grow or shrink. But sometimes it swallows its person whole. Chris' death bothers me so much and scares the hell out me. What a huge fucking loss. God help us all.

      Thank you so much for sharing. Mental health and mental illness is something that most of us can relate to on some level. Anxiety, depression, OCD, etc... So very common in the world yet America doesn't want to talk about it, and that's part of the problem. I believe it's and epidemic that needs to be addressed, otherwise suicides will continue to be prevalent.

      Joanna Hatcher agreed.. Sometimes you function well amongst others even though you'd rather be alone. However when you're alone, there's nothing to prevent everything that saddens you from coming down on you like a wave! I prefer to be alone, but it's not good for me..

    Hands down my favorite song from the Singles sountrack. It's all about Chris's voice i.e., rich, soulful, and demulcent. Eddie Vedder has a great voice too, but it lacks that something that Chris simply had. It was almost like Johnny Cash meets Ian Gillan. You are sadly missed, Chris.

    I never had music touch me the way Chris's did it's like he reached into my sole and said what was inside me the hurt the pain the sadness and exposed me to the world his voice was that of an angel he was too good he didn't belong to this world but some where on a higher plain he was sent to open our eyes and give meaning to our existence . I still greive over his short life and the way he ended it my heart aches to hear him again now forever silenced I'm not supposed to admit this guy thing you know every time I hear his songs I cry I truly miss him there is an empty spot that can't be filled the light in me doesn't shine as brightly anymore it calls for Chris to let it shine like it once did but the calls are not heard they will keep searching through space and time until Chris hears and answers and brings that part of me that died that day restores that huge hole in my sole that left me that day

He delved into the abyss and splashed the darkness across sonic landscapes in a way that touched all of us so deeply. When someone lays bare solitude and alienation with lyrical poetry and crushing melody; the rest of us can take strength from it, and face the bleakness that so many of us harbor deep inside. @@cammo777 Case in point. It is a known fact that Chris Cornell suffered most of his life with depression. Depression IS a mental illness and happens to most of us occasionally. But if its long standing, it should be treated. Chris took his own life after having a bad reaction to the benzodiazepines he was over-taking beyond what was prescribed. They can cause suicidal ideation in some, especially if abused. Chris also has had problems with addiction and should never have been on that medication, let alone been abusing it. I never said anything about murder, so not sure who you are talking to. And depression is very different than BiPolar disorder which can cause psychosis. Many people do not have even a basic understanding of mental health disorders. And the stigma associated with it should be removed by way of conversation and education.

    What a profoundly beautiful human being we have lost. I will never believe he took his own life. He loved his children too much to leave them with that memory.

    • @adamsitar2717
      @adamsitar2717 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I don't think he took his own life either.. there are darker forces at play than any of the deep and often dark lyrics that represent him in his songs... Although he did harbor alot inside of himself, his music helped him get those feelings out to the world... Something else decidedly killed him, and I have my own theories..

      Adam Sitar, I believe Chris was murdered. To many inconsistencies in time lines, autopsy and toxology reports. The circumstances of his death do not add up at all. His cell phone was never located, no camera footage inside the MGM hotel he was staying at, his room and his items were neatly arranged as if no one stayed in the room, the pictures of the bathroom and how Chris was hanging from the work out belt when the door is 6'7 and Chris stands 6'3. In a photo of Chris at his last concert a close up picture of his back head shows a very large bloody bumb with hair missing. Chris' quick cremation, and i can say so much more. I have been following his case since his death. His death was conspired and premeditated months or a year before his death. I believe his wife, Vicki and Martin Kirsten, his bodyguard was involved as well as others. The individuals involved in his murder wanted to cause confusion and upheaval to keep people guessing. Just like Kurt Cobain's death we will never know the true story except for those who committed the crime.

      D.IRON, very beautifully put. I've always tried not to take anything in this world for granted, especially those I love, and the musicians and other artists that help keep life worth living by giving up so much to offer their talents and beauty to the world. I didn't feel like I took Chris, his music, or his many projects to help others in need for granted, but I must have done so in some small way because I was so shocked when he was suddenly gone from this world, like all of his fans were. I still can't believe he's gone.

    I had been on meds for depression/anxiety but decided to fight it without. It has been a battle but I have learned over the last 10 years that my physical health plays a big part (research gut health) but cognitive therapy is HUGE!! Add to those things faith in a loving God and I have hope and faith to battle the very real demons that try thier best to take over my thoughts! If I can do this, so can you! I feel for those that still feel trapped! Peace and love to you all.
