  • Welcome to Revolutionary Motion! In today's video, we explain to you how to use shoulder rotation correctly and why it has not been working well for many of you. Learn to turn your shoulders and let the arm follow freely in order to get more power out of your rotation. Happy playing,
    Kata and Clemens

Upper body rotation into the forehand should start with the hips. Hip rotation connects to shoulder rotation. This hips first thinking is more effective than concentrating on shoulder rotation without considering the hips. Hips first creates complete rotation into the shot. It also forces proper foot placement to allow the hip rotation and correct execution of this technique results in natural racquet lag that creates the whip-like arm motion you describe. Where most players fall short is in the setup of the backswing body rotation and the feet placement. One thing that helps body rotation is to always carry the racquet to the back shoulder position using the non-dominant arm. This results in proper rotation and loading. Watch slo mo of pro players and you will see them all execute backswing with the non-dominant hand carrying the racquetvto the back shoulder before releasing the racquet and the forward sung is led by the hips.

I think the conversation her is less about the early pieces to the kinetic chain and more of a discussion about whether the muscles controlling the arm are passive or active in the swing and when.

Agree that whatever is taught regarding the movements of the body it should be concerning the proper flow of the kinetic chain?

@Tonetone389 Less about kinetic chain and more about precise technique that increases precision and reduces errors. Also saw some great info and insight from Martina Navratilova regarding how to anticipate where oppoents shots would cross the net for increased poaching opportunities based on area of the court opponents were hitting from and forehand vs backhand. This info allows better anticipation of poaching opportunities. Example: T-serves to the deuce court to a right-handed returners backhand lead to returns pulled closer to the center of the net and almost never down the line. Strategy? Serve T against right hand returners and the net player can forget the line and poach the middle of the court consistently.
