9 Year Old Goalkeeper Training | Distribution & Shot Stopping | Pro Gk

- What's up guys,
In todays session, you guys will be seeing me work with 9 year old goalkeeper, Christopher. Because he's only 9, I didn't want to overload him with crazy concepts OR an overly complex session structure. Instead, I chose a straightforward session with 2 core themes: unannounced services & creating depth with his distribution.
After watching an English FA Learning Course, where the GK Dept. at AFC Bournemouth discussed the development of a skill vs development of a technique, I began to eliminate the volley from my service completely. Their point about developing a technique into a skill and how that would translate better to a game was something new for me to conceptualize. This is my 5th session with Chris since switching to unannounced services, and I have noticed his comfort levels rise to new heights when it comes to his handling anywhere inside & out of his bubble.
We then covered creating depth prior to receiving a back-pass. Going from in & out of possession was key to have him visualize the actions before and after collecting a shot cleanly!
With that being said, I hope you guys enjoy the session!
--- Omar Zeenni

What an amazing kid. He is so lucky to have a great coach like you! Just a note, don't forget to tell him the importance of good attitude.
I like your videos, you are very professional and i can see you love for you job, bless you crack🤙🏻
I’m a u10 goal keeping coach. This was really great! Very talented kid! He took your instructions and learned from them. Coaching u10 I know instructions can go in one ear and out the other :)
He learned so fast, very talented kid.
Just wanted to thank you for your videos, I played goalie as a kid and a bit in my adulthood, but now I begin to train my daughters soccer team goalies,
body behind balls. head behind balls during dive.fall back to create depth during distribution.hand position should be ideal for scoop or catch interchange.love the coaching points.
Well done Omar, another good one! Interesting to see your work with a young keeper, away from some of the seniors. Well done young man, some lovely natural actions in this - particularly some of the low reactive bottom corner saves.
Great job Omar. Fast learner 👍🏼. Great saves at 12:45 & 16:02 👏🏼
I’m so proud of Christopher! I see how hard you work to make your skill better and better!
This kid is unreal at age 9 already!
Omar/ProGKacademy was my Goalkeeper coach in college. I've started to create content and share my journey to become pro.

Hello from Germany,

Omar, how do you teach a young kid to dive? My son is 9 and we have been watching your videos and applying what we see for quite a while now but have yet to get to the point of diving. is there a tutorial on teaching the accurate way to dive?
Thank you for all you do you have been a huge help to us!
Are you using Size 5 or 4 ball? My 7 year old has been wanting to start some training and I'm wondering if I should start him on size 3 or 4 since we don't play with goalies until they're using the size 4. Probably a super minor concern. Love the video and gave me some good ideas for him.
Terimakasih atas pencerahannya !!
Hey Omar thank you for you video, I have a son he is 9 years old and he love goalkeeping and in his club they don't do training for keeper until sub 14, I take some tips for this video but I have little experience with the position, can you help me with more tips?? Thanks again and greetings from Danmark ✌️👍

Nice video
My 8 yo daughter had only been to 4 practices and 3 matches so far. She volunteered to play gk today.... And she loved I and was was very impressive for never doing it. We practice 30 minutes a day in the backyard plus twice a week practices which is mostly basic dribbling, ball control and passing. Do you have any resources for VERY beginner goalkeepers?
Good saves boy
Muy buen video...mi hijo tiene 9 años y juega en el real Betis y muchos de los entrenos de tu canal los para rico con el..."Vasa 13" es su canal de you tube...saludos desde Sevilla(Spain)

RICHARD(14)
leg step in high ball diving. which leg is pushing? and landing
Will you ever visit Georgia?
Will you continue to use the non-volley technique even for you older trainees? I personally don't like to use the volley to the GK's I train because it is not as game realistic as a shot from the ground.
Justin Willis yes. I’ve just about eliminated it from all of my sessions; olders and youngers!
Hey Omar how much you charge monthly ? How many sessions a week and how long?
Hey omar did you coach in any other country?
Do you have goalie classes or training
Can this work with a small backyard to?
Hey, do you ever do special training sessions? Like how can we get in better contact with you. I love all your stuff and even one session I could benefit.
I am a 12 yr old goal keeper and i am having trouble catching the ball. I can block it but cant catch

This training good for me?
at this time,
you should work on basic techniques like catching, handling, diving etc. with good amount of repetitions. Dont work on extension saves or advanced techniques.
work on simple and basic stuff.
Thanks
I am too weak in low balls what I doooo
What incompetence, many mistakes, lack of attention to detail and little preparation for the basic technique. I'm sorry but training children is more demanding and you need to have a high preparation.
Orlha orlha I’m always willing to take notes from others. Since there seems to be “many mistakes & lack of attn to detail” plz tell me what you think I could have done better. Would love to hear your thoughts 👍🏽
@@progkacademy If I may have used terms that have offended you, I apologize. Unfortunately my English is lacking. if you want advice, the training you have shown is confusing enough for a child of that age. we see that he is far behind (the child) has too many basic deficiencies. for example you should work on the socket, do a session focused only on that. Analytic then finally the last 20min go global. Exercises to do are many. It does not mean that you are not an excellent trainer, I like you with adults, but with children the work is more complicated.
Orlha orlha No offense taken. Just trying to get better as a coach, so I’m always willing to hear/take constructive criticism. Could be the translation, but your first comment didn’t seem like that was your goal. That being said, what you said about working within the gk’s “bubble” makes sense. We’ve been doing that in previous session. What I was trying to accomplish here was seeing what instinctual technique this gk used with unannounced services. We’ve always spoon fed younger gk’s and made things predictable to build the technique. But after listening to a conference about unannounced services, I wanted to see if maybe shots from the ground would help him find a better catching technique than I could teach. But to your point, I agree! Coaching younger gk’s takes a lot more time and patience, something that you probably couldn’t see from this session.
Really struggling with my 7 yr old lad, he want to push and punch everything away. Any tips on how to discourage this? I know at time it’s needed ( full stretch etc) but surely option 1 is always to catch ?… or had keeping changed that much since I was between the sticks 😁😁 great work on the vids
