A 12 stringer guitar gives you thicker, more rich, more ringing tone sound, the regular neck is a classic 6 string electric guitar , the second neck has another string at each of the six strings tuned an octave higher, which gives you that full beautiful sound, in this case the fact that you dont need to have two separate guitars on you comes in handy. Plus If a song need both sounds and you playin a gig its just practical to have a double-neck guitar. Not to mention it was cool at the time, and legendary, the gibson sg double neck guitar.
When I was 15 years old, I bought a Goya 12 string acoustic guitar with money I worked for at McDonalds (ha-ha) over the summer. That was in 1977. I had a friend named Raymond Kittredge RIP. He would come to my house a couple of times a week to give me guitar lessons in exchange for a homecooked meal from my mother RIP. He taught how to play this song. He also taught me Dog & Butterfly by a group Heart. he was a barefoot hippy with a heart of gold. One day I heard on my dad's scanner that he was hit by a car on his bike and was killed. I didn't play my guitar for a year.
@@AlanBeil-ry5cl Makes no difference on an electric guitar. You could record an electric guitar, then take the strings and pickups off the guitar and string them in the air, with just the pickups, and as long as the bridge is the same distance from the nut, the guitar will sound exactly the same. The wood makes no difference. Accoustic yes, electric no.
British bands brought American Blues back in focus in America. Zeppelin's cover of 1929's When the Levee Breaks, written and performed by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy is a miraculous sample. Speaking of samples, I believe just about everybody sampled Bonzo's drum riff from that song, possibly the best drum riff of all time.
ALWAYS listen to the studio version first! That's what the band created for public release. Then see what they do with it live. Your next song should be Since I've Been Loving You, starting with the studio version, then their absolutely cataclysmic live version from Madison Square Garden. Both versions will blow you away.
Totally agree studio version should always be first but what do I know Out on the Tiles is one of my favorite Zep songs. I'm sure I on a lonely island with that as one of my top picks.
OMG THIS! I was so disappointed, I couldn't even watch till the end. Like why in the world would you intentionally choose some weird ass live version over the studio masterpiece? This HAS to be re done. We're talking about one of the greatest rock songs in history.
Jimmy Page is the guitarist, and some say the GOAT. If you watch the film "The Song Remains the Same", just watching his hands, you (well...me) say to yourself..."that's not possible!". The double neck guitar: Well...there's a lot to be said about it. It's two instruments in one. Led Zeppelin doesn't have a lead and rhythm guitar. It has one guitarist. So, you can use it for both parts. That's one advantage. I would think that means it adds to the range, et al., but a guitarist could probably give you a better answer. I agree with the comment about watching the tribute to Led Zeppelin at the Kennedy Center Honors (performed by Heart, and many others). Robert Plant is brought to tears, and Jason Bonham (son of John Bonham - RIP - drummer for Led Zeppelin prior to his death in 1980) played the drums. It's very moving. With Led Zeppelin, you get 4 guys that are all so talented that they managed to put something together that is very special. I cried like a baby when John Bonham died and remember exactly where I was when I found out. I knew it was the end of something so dear to me.
When the Levee Breaks is another fantastic, but somewhat underrated, absolute banger! It’s also an amazing example of creativity and excellence in production :)
This just might be the most Iconic Rock Song of all time, even though my personal favorite from Zeppelin is "Kashmir"! The Talent that is standing on that Stage is immeasureable....true Masters of Musical Genius!
The live at Madison Square Gardens is also one you need to watch on your own! Legendary song, Legendary singer, Legendary drummer and Legendary band! ❤

The reason Led Zeppelin is loved so much is they were the first to come out with this sound/genre in the 60's. All these classic rock bands/ songs took off from them.
@@chuckhouse5179 From all I see, Led Zeppelin came out in 1969, Sabbath later. We also had, The Rolling Stones, The Who, CCR, The Allman Brothers, etc in the 60's. I would suggest to you playing these "classic rock" songs in their original version first, then at a later date expand on it with the live version. Jimmy Page used 3 different guitars on the studio version to get the perfect sound, but that would be impractical during a live show, so he uses a double neck to reproduce the sounds. A six string on one neck and 12 string on other neck. The song has 3 sections, the intro with slow tempo acoustic instruments, then electric instruments in the middle, and final section with an up-tempo hard rock arrangement.

The double neck guitar allows for a wider range of sounds. As you saw, one neck is a 12 string, the other a 6 string. In Jimmy Page's solo he is mostly using the bottom neck, but at the beginning and end of the song, he's switched to the top neck. It's a classic guitar solo and this is an iconic performance by LZ.
First time I've seen this performance. Usually there's a specific concert everyone watches, which I'd say is a little closer to the studio version, which is immaculate. Many more Zep songs for you to listen to. To me, this is top tier Zeppelin, but there's like 3 other songs on this tier: Kashmir, When the Levee Breaks, and Immigrant Song. There's almost no drop off to the 2nd tier. FWIW, if you want to hear Plant sing "baby" a lot, try "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You." lol Also, in Plant's solo career, there's a great guitar part in a hit song called "Big Log."
Man, it’s nice watching the big dawgs react to the music out there. I enjoy your channel. My question to you is if you could remix any rock song with you rapping on it, who would you choose and why?

12 strings .. ok .. you can tune them in so many ways. In pairs one string can be an octave up or in a fifth, to add depth. so you can play two notes at the same time. there are Bass Guitars built the same was in pairs like in Cheap Trick and the Guitar player Rick Nielsen also has 6 neck guitars. To me the guys in Led Zeppelin were John Paul Jones on Bass/Everything else and John Bonham on Drums that afforded a base for JImmy Page on Guitar and Robert Plant on Vocals to stretch out. When John Bonham drank his last drink they disbanded. They have done a few shows and turned down insane cash to reunite. They honor their fallen member in silence.

Out of curiosity, have you ever asked your parents what their Prom songs were? Or their High School make out music? Or just cruising music? I'm amazed that I haven't seen reactors bringing in people who lived it when they check out the classics.
I remember 25 years ago a Denver radio FM was changing formats, for about a week to refresh your musical palette, it played non stop, only interuption, new call letters top of the hour, Stairway, with bagpipes, organ, marimba, church choir, it just didn't stop.
Jimmy Page was partially inspired to write this song by his experience as a session musician. At that time he was admonished by the producers to always play at tempo, never speeding up, never slowing down, and he wanted to play a song where the speed changes. This was the result.
I grew up listening to Led Zeppelin and I absolutely love them so much!! I love their tunes and Jimmy Page is one of my all time fav guitarists and musicians. He often used the "double neck" guitar so he could play both electric and acoustic without having to change guitars. I love trippin' thru the rabbit holes on how they started out and their journey together because they were truly so creative, so talented and gifted and way ahead of their time!! I heard in a documentary that this album was sort of based loosely on "Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien and they often talked about "themes" such as "vikings" etc. while producing their albums. They were highly influenced by the original Blue's artists from days of old and sincerely incorporated as much of in their tunes as they could while keeping it rock and roll. It's so interesting that they became so absolutely huge but didn't really do that much touring and then when John Bonham, the drummer, died they all quit playing together as "Led Zeppelin" because they couldn't do it without him. I have followed their musical journey's to today and Robert Plant is still going strong. One concert I loved was the tribute concert where they came back together with Jason Bonham on drums, John's son and did the "Celebration Day Tour" and it's here on YT. My fav songs from them are "Kashmir", "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You", "Ramble On", "Good Times Bad Times", "The Rain Song", "Since I've Been Loving You" "All My Love", "Thank You", "Going to California", Thank you Krizz!! I've been playing guitar since 2017 and each year I get a little better. Jimmy Page has been playing since he was a young boy and started by copying songs and the internet says he is mainly self taught, and then was a session player at a young age and learned sound, and how to play just about anything by ear and could really play with just about anyone. He is phenomenal!
Man I love your total appreciation for these classics I grew up with. You can see it in your eyes. The interest and respect. Love it. Please keep going with this deep dive.
Regardless of the style of music, if someone is good , they're good. I grew up with the guitar Gods, but I have heard a few songs since then that are amazing too , But I agreed with going on a deep dive with this one.
Welcome to the Led Zeppelin family Krizz! Can't wait for you to hear When the Levee Breaks. You'll write a song off that beat when you hear it for the first time. Enjoy the journey!
A pro tip with rock music, if you only know two of the band members names, usually(not always), it is the lead singer and the lead guitarist. In the case of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant is the lead singer, Jimmy Page is the lead guitarist, John Paul Jones is the bass guitarist and John Bonham(RIP) is the drummer.
The quintessential line in this song is "and it makes me wonder." That is really all you need to know about this song's meaning. The ear of the beholder.
You'll also love when you check out the Mighty Ohio Players, my man Leroy Sugarfoot Bonner played a double 🎸🎸for years til he absolutely couldn't and 🔥🔥🔥 too
Never interrupt a guitar solo…it’s sacrilegious 🖖🏻🇨🇦

Just an addition I have seen the double neck tuned differently when the musician needed both tunings in a single set because he was doing covers.

The double neck guitar is a 6 and 12 string guitars. It lets you switch between the 6 and 12 strings ( which sound very different) in the same song.
The resonance in the sound of the body of a two neck guitar is much richer
Thank you, I wondered about that myself!❤

on a 12 string guitar the extra 6 strings are tuned 1-2 octaves above the adjacent strings, which makes chords and melodies sound much fuller

All of my love is another great song from them
Man I love your total appreciation for these classics I grew up with.
Yes, absolutely. When The Levee Breaks is probably my favorite Zep track.
Thanks, really enjoyed your response
Y’all know the yay area loves Kansas City, we also adore the Zep, early morning misty mountains for the Silicon Valley.
