A mama bear goes to great lengths to keep her grizzly cubs safe!

- In 2012, this grizzly bear took her cubs,(two yearlings as well as her three year old cub) and left her home range of Kananaskis and the Nakiska Ski Hill area to avoid large cub killing males during the mating season. Her journey took her over the range to Canmore, Alberta. Over the next few days the bear aversion team and Conservation Officers tirelessly guided her away from the townsite. At the time I was just a volunteer, assisting an officer in getting her back to the park before other agencies set traps and relocated her. Once she was at Dead Man's Flats, we knew we could guide her south, and after a long day she was well on her way. The next morning she was back on the slopes of her favorite ski hill.
So nice to know people are caring for the bears.

Some were collared but many were not. Working in that area I got to know their movements and travel routes, as well as their routines. It represents 15 years of my life doing bear management.

The abandoned golf course is where I walk almost every day, definitely seen a few there over the years. Might have seen her and her cubs down by the creek on a morning walk or just another Griz with her cubs. Love this video, thanks for posting.
This sort of thing makes me super sad to hear about TSMV plan to put a hard line fence around the new proposed development on the abandoned golf course.

I love that she allows her 2 year old to tag along. Some bears would banish the older bears to raise the younger ones. What a wonderful mama bear 🐻❤️❤️

I love scary bear stories...have you or your other co-workers ever had a scary encounter, and what did you do to get out of it?
We all have stories, or been bluff charged because we are playing the role almost like the dominant bear. It's important to know their behavior and know what you can do in these cases. You have to stay calm, think clear, and react right. We do everything we tell people they shouldn't do, we challenge, we push, we approach, all to get compliance and respect. It is why I can't stress enough you need the right people to work bears, and not a student looking for a cool gig. It sounds dangerous, but play by the rules, the risk really goes down.

Where they live there is almost limitless habitat.
So isnt it pretty rare that she had the yearlings while the 3 year old was still with her and not given the boot??
Not sure on Griz but I was told by a state biologist that black bears will "concede" a corner of their territory for their female offspring but they drive male cubs completely away. This helps ensure good reproductive numbers. Im assuming the Griz share this trait with black bears.
The Bear Guy :Are those coyotes, wolves or they look more like shepherds? And if dogs why didn't momma go after them as a threat to her cubs in her eyes? I know bears who are used to dogs don't pay them much attention. (I watch another bear channel and this guy in south carolina has black bears and their cubs visiting his porch for bird seed.) There is always this dog across the street that we can hear but not see, named Bella) This area is like back end woods, a few houses so the dog barking doesn't bother the moms or her cubs. A very secluded, quiet peaceful area that I think anyone would love to live. It's a guy maybe in his seventies and he has lived their since he married way back. He is now alone except for the bears and his cat. They are wild bears, some collared and some not.) He lets them come up on his porch while he is sitting out there-he never touches them, or feeds them but they come up on his porch while mom checks the hanging bird feeder on his deck and then they leave and come back later. One bear has been coming with her cubs for seven years. There are three bear mammas that are always repeat customers for years, while others are just passing through.-he knows the bears, names them, and he only talks to them, never touching even when the cubs want to check him out-he says no no no, go back by your mom, and coughs so they know his voice, his smell etc and the bears are comfortable with him. He films all this, but those bears can't get to the dog and this momma could, so why did she just act like it wasn't there? (Sorry it's so long but I am so interested in wild bears and love that they are protected in some areas like the collared bears, or trackers or their ear tags) I am in Illinois so no bears😌😌
Kinda brings it into a respective understanding that if a sow will chase off a 12 lb 🦊 ! What do you imagine she does when a solo hiker or Hunter startles the family?
I know it'd be more work, but it'd be very educational to have a Google map at the beginning showing the path they took, or where you are on a map.
