I got this one coming in the mail. Really love the original, so I know I’ll love this too. Also, keep in mind this rulebook errata, as per the Capstone Games website: “We noticed a small error in the rulebook after the games have left the factory. On Page 4, Step 3 of Setup, you need 4 Residence cards. The printed rulebook states you need 3 Residence cards. The graphic at the top of the printed page is correct. In order to fill out the card tableau during Setup, you will need the 4th Residence card. The digital rulebook has the correction implemented.”
Yep. The picture in the rule is also correct and they even printed a reminder on paper and put it in the box. If you were to follow the rules as written, you would be short a card during setup and would notice it. I am sure you will enjoy the game. It is like they took all of the fun parts of Maracaibo, added some new things and made a game about it. Lots of points to score at the end which can make it a little unclear on how you are doing during the game but that doesn’t bother me too much at all. A fun game for sure!
I just pre-ordered this along with the playmat from Game Nerdz. Was waiting for your thoughts before buying. Meanwhile, I broke out regular Maracaibo with the expansion while I wait for this to deliver. I will probably introduce Pirates to my wife and keep regular Maracaibo as a solo only game.

@@JohnLaRuffa I think it’s worth it to own both
I just received my copy of this one the other day so I am very happy to hear your thoughts on it, John. Thanks for the video!
It’s a good one!
Thanks for the overview. I am eagerly awaiting my copy.
So happy to hear you are liking this one - I am looking forward to the expansion, coming out this October 😁
I’m going to get it as soon as it hits the US!
I was already interested.but the upcoming commanders expansion has me sold
I am very excited to get that one!
That playmat is superb. I have Pirates of Maracaibo but without this playmat 😞
I think you can order it from their website. It does hold the game together nicely.
Great vid man, I didn’t know about this one. Hey, do you plan on making a video about Pax Pamir? Ever heard of? I think you might like it!
I actually cannot believe I have not covered that one. Amazing solo game! I must have gotten it before I started my channel several years back.
@@JohnLaRuffa oh man, please consider a vid! It is such a great solo game that deserves a lot of love

On a fun vs. effort ratio, I think Pirates wins over the original. I hope you enjoy it!
