This mv really feels like a kind of old kpop mv. It reminds me of Teen Top, VIXX, EXO, MBLAQ.
I feel like they took elements from "old" kpop and then found a way to refresh them.
The set reminds me of tvxq - keep your head down, and the dance has the scorpion move which was infinite's thing back then
I think its a good point to start with not perfect mv and look. And then seeing them improve each comeback and finding their true color. Like mamamoo and bts they used to look old modish comparing to exo etc at that time but now look at them the most modern one.
That is the concept, throwback to the 2 gen. of kpop and making it work in 2019 (they are under RBW, Mamamoo's company which make a lot of throwback concepts)

The first time I heard them I thought about Teen Top too, that's why I kept coming back, and now I don't wanna leave 😁🤗
Just wanna drop in and say that the production of this MV really focused on the lighting because of their concept VALKYRIE w/c is from Norse Mythology. They're called "Choosers of the Fallen" because they lead war-fallen warriors to Valhalla or what we call the afterlife. So the Valkyrie literally leads souls to the "light."
In the MV, they say that they fell in love with the Valkyrie, giving light to their otherwise dark life. Referencing to PD's words that their color is very muted with those laser like lights, they did that on purpose to reiterate the concept of the album entitled Light on Us.
Just a trivia tho, in the chorus they actually sing the korean word 밝히리 pronounced as Balkiri which means clear or bright. So it's a very clever play of words to say "You're my Valkyrie/You shine, shine, shine"

The members definitely do stand out. 3 of them were on Produce 101 Season 2, Keonhee actually placed first in the vocal position during the second evaluation on the show, Hwanwoong was well known for his dance despite not making it to top 35 (he's the one that did that crazy low bend, wouldn't be surprised if he can do that). And Seonho was on both Produce 101 and Mixnine. He was eliminated in the first round on Produce 101 (no screentime, thanks Mnet) but was in the top 9 on Mixnine for quite a few weeks before being eliminated there. And I think being from Mamamoo's Company helps a bit in getting their name out. But this was a group I've been eagerly waiting for debut since Produce101 and they definitely did not disappoint!
Actually, the one bending his back is Ravn. He went to Mixnine with Seoho and if I don't remember wrong he made it to the semifinals too

The guy who bended is Ravn and he can actually do it. It's part of their choreography and he did it on live stages.
Actually he's leaning on Leedo's back for support and in order to get back up for their next choreography (it's clear in the live stage, but you can see it in the MV as well), but yea, he'd bended a roughly 90 degree before their back touch and I don't think RBW used CGI in their MV so he probably did bend like that in their shooting

It's interesting to see your take on this. I have a decade of 'experience' in kpop and I'm usually not interested in rookies anymore. But as I randomly watched Oneus' mv yesterday.... damn, they're REALLY good. They got me bad. Many of my friends feel the same way.
The song's good and the mv gave me 2010ish vibes. Kinda reminded me of MBLAQ's Stay concept.

SAME SJSJDJ. I literally just commented the same thing on their mv 💀 the mv is so early 2010s even the song is similar. And MBLAQ was the group that got me into kpop so this touched me 😔

I've first seen them on MCountdown and surprise by their stage performance, they're really good and the song is really nice, then saw the MV for the first time here. Glad that they did a wonderful job with the production for this as well. I can see ONEUS will be one of the top groups if no issues rises up.
As a moomoo I was seeing a bunch of stuff about them predebut but I never checked them out cause boy groups never really capture my heart (bts and pentagon being the exceptions) but I decided to watch the MV to support Mamamoo's hoobaes and I really enjoyed it! The blonde guy's voice caught my attention, perhaps cause I also saw that showcase video where the audio turned off but he just kept singing and dancing and sounded great? And the choreography really interests me. It has elements of the sharp and fast choreo standard to boy groups, but it has these unusual touches of lightness and humour that I often see in pentagon and femininity that kard plays with that is exciting to see! They seem like sweet and talented boys with great vocals, as expected of "Mamamoo's company" of course! Will definitely be keeping updated with their music!

I lowkey wonder what you would think if you listen to their mini album. I really like your in depth look into MVs and I enjoy your album reviews so I’d like to hear your thoughts about it. I personally think it’s a nice introduction to their musical abilities and while there is no connective theme in the album, I like that it shows the many styles they could do :)
7:55 RBW production team love make transition by cameraworking. Its the same way they use on MAMAMOO EGOTISTIC MV, when member spining on their dresses.

I’ve been a Kpop fan for five years now, and still, my top three favorite songs of all time (my opinion) are ATEEZ’s Pirate King, BTS’s Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and (you guessed it), ONEUS’s Valkyrie!
kind of surprised that you saw Dejavu's aesthetic in this. Meanwhile I was reminded of Shinee's ring ding dong for a lot of parts if we're talking about aesthetics. Maybe the guitar solo reminded you of Dejavu? It was a bass guitar in Dejavu but yeah at least that's what reminded me of it. Thanks for the reaction to this! Dejavu and Valkyrie sound the same couse they bouth have an acustic anti drop. The drop goes after the acustic part
I have this theory about the mv. So the song’s message is like “lighting up my dark world” (sort of, something along those lines). I think it was shown sooo well in the mv. It has dark, minimal and simple sets in the beginning. But it becomes interesting when the light comes in. It gives color. The part where the light shines through the members’ hearts is also a clever way to deliver the song’s message. Thanks for the reaction pd✨💕

I'm actually already obsessed with this video. It reminds a little of Hann from last year. Not really like the music or visuals, but in the way that it throws off what you expect to come next.
Tantalizing was a good description. They had good members that stood out and the visuals were pretty nuts.
Edit: Also want to say, that drab set gave me either Wolf by EXO or Mr. Simple/Sorry Sorry. I'm glad they didn't do just that, those sets are really the only thing that turns me off of those MVs

Hey PD, I just wanted to say thank you so much for breaking down ONEUS. I know you mainly go over more popular groups, so this means a lot! ONEUS have such an interesting sound that reminds me of a lot of older stuff, something that this generation could really use! But yeah, they're not really the most popular of groups yet since they just debuted, so you reacting to them means a lot to us fans! I'm glad you liked Valkyrie :) You should check out the rest of their album, I feel like you would LOVE Red Thread! The lyrics to it are beautiful, and they choreographed the performance of the song to match the lyrics and meaning perfectly! It's a masterpiece!

I discovered the boys of ONEUS back in June of last year, while they were still in their pre-debut stage - originally, I think that the boys were supposed to debut around August - but the date was pushed back. But honestly, the wait was really worth it - they produced SUCH an amazing debut album, a kickass title track, and made a drop dead stunning MV! To me, the song is such a bop - I expected a good song, but got a MINDBLOWINGLY AMAZING song, the guitar at the beginning already had me hooked - but god d a m n they did a clever job of combining the melodies of the mv teaser videos, and just - ONEUS honestly outdid themselves, and it shows how hard they worked
I think you should listen to their debut album light us. It really showcased their vocals and rap there really well. The songs are versatile and some of the members participated in the production of the songs 😊
Have been waiting for their debut since August, and I remember telling all my friends back then that their debut will be soon, and it did take pretty long, but I'm just so glad that I can finally show my friends and others this mv. I'm soooo happy that they finally got to debut🤧
