The Hu have really been lighting up US radio waves lately! I think the instruments are all traditional Mongolian instruments and they sing in traditional Mongolian throat singing, Wolf Totem is just as freaking catchy, I know The Hu were supposed to tour the US with....Babymetal? this year, but for virus reasons they didn't.

From my understanding, the song is from the point of view of the ancestors; asking why their descendants have forgotten who they are, trading in their heritage as Mongols for lazy days of eating and drinking whilst forgetting those who came before them. The kneel down traitor line is emblematic of the disgust the ancestors would have for a people who've forgotten they once had an empire spanning from China to the Balkans.

"Wolf Totem" is another good one by The HU. Also, you should check out "Whats up people by Maximum the Hormone".

Even if you dont know much about Mongolia, you might've heard about Genghis Khan, the great nomad, the conqueror -he was Mongolian :) the instrument you were curious about is 'morin khuur, or horsehead fiddle - a national Mongolian instrument, whose sounds can resemble wind in the steppe, the horse's neigh, the cry of the falcon. ' (c)
Rock and traditional instruments is always a great combo - these guys are in touch with their nomadic ancestry and that's great :)

This is the coolest awesomest band on the planet and if you ever have a chance to see them live take it. They just keep getting better over time the instruments are the Morin Khuur, jaw harp, and tovshuur check out all their songs and videos they are awesome. If you turn on the captions you get the lyrics in English.

Agreed, Prince! I love the instruments being so unusual compared to what we hear every day.

I love that their songs have ties to their culture and history, they are freaking awesome. I cant wait for you to react to more of their stuff. Ps. You are so intuitive when you interpret lyrics, i really enjoy hearing your thoughts.

I can honestly say I have never heard anything like this before. I dont even know what half the instruments are but its still intriguing.

This is why I love listening to multi cultural music, it's enriching and awesome to dive into something completely foreign like this. These instruments which I assume are some traditional instruments are fucking dope. Sick song and awesome vid as always man!

Whoa this song is so cool and catchy. I need to hear more from them.
Also at 8:5... did it sound like a horse?? If so holy wow. I know only a tiny little bit about mongolian history (from a semester studying the book about the travels of Marco Polo and what it says about Kublai Khan's court and a bit of story from the times of the Golden Horde). If I remember correctly horses were very important in that region (are they still?) so that would be just awesome.

You may've heard about a guy called Genghis, who united the Mongolian peoples into one nation. He founded the largest land empire in history, before it eventually dissolved.

I ran across these guys on a Spotify playlist last year sometime and have become obsessed since then. They were booked for a festival I was going to attend in Ohio alongside Tool & Deftones before COVID ruined all the concerts. Great reaction, Jersh!

Hello! Thanks for your feedback. I lke this band a lot, its lyrics are very significant.
I also recommend if you want to listen is to DIMASH KUDAIBEGEN, he can sing reaching, from a baritone to the ranks of a soprano. He is from Kasajistan. Sing in many languages. Do not miss it.
A big hug from Puerto Madryn, Argentina.

Mongolia is between China and Russia, its a small country they had to fight them both to keep their country that is why China built the wall for a small country back in the day they were warriors when Genghis Khan was their leader, by the way you should also listen to their song Genghis Khan, Wolf Totem feat. Jacoby Shaddix, Song of Women feat. Lizzy Hale, I find the album The Gereg has many other Mongolia throat singing songs, they are awesome, love them

the symbol on his fiddle is exactly what you thought. Remember it doesn't have the same meaning in Asia than in the west. He changed them now that they gained international attention, (out of respect I imagine).
The low pitch singing is mongolian throat singing.
You should take a look at Wolf Totem from them

I enjoyed this, Thanks to the Patreon nominator. If you were just listening to the audio you might think its a foreign language version of a country/rock inspired jam song. Lyrically goes a bit deeper with the translation, cool inclusion of some traditional looking instruments there as well.

That symbol is exactly what you thought it was. Originally it is a symbol of peace and or harmony in the east i believe. But in the west it gained another meaning because of you know who. They have replaced the symbols on their instruments after some backlash.

I suppose it could have something to do with Mongolia being part of china nowadays... And while I can recall a few details about the country (after playing the pink panther childrens computer game a long time ago) I'm not really informed enough to say either way. it's a good song anyway, I could have this as background music to my life at times I think.

    • @bayarmalham9749
      @bayarmalham9749 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Jessica S Mongolia is NOT a part of china! Perhaps you're confused proper MONGOLIA with a chinese province called Inner Mongolia which used to be a Mongolian territory but sadly was grabbed by China. Please check the facts. I hope you just made an honest mistake. Fyi, it's a terrible insult to Mongols if someone says Mongolia is "a part of china".
