Suffolk Walks: The Ancient City of Dunwich

- Dunwich, almost like the Atlantis of Suffolk is a lost city that existed in medieval times but due to coastal erosion, no longer exists. Only a few buildings remain with a few medieval ones in ruins that once sat on the outskirts of the city. The ruined Friary is a stunning and romantic ruin and so is the chapel in the churchyard.
This walk begins by the beach at Dunwich and heads south into Dunwich Heath, a nature rich and rare landscape. After enjoying an ice cream at the National Trust cafe we then headed along the beach back to Dunwich.
Distance: 10.2km
Ascent: 25m
Duration: 3 Hours 13 Minutes

Great video Joe. some nice camera work. Thank you for bringing back some memories of my visits there with my late wife.
Cool....brought back memories of a school trip to Dunwich, we actually camped there..i remember lying awake for half the night hoping to hear the tolling of bells in the sea....the highlight/ scary moment for me was seeing a huge Coypu running through the campsite.
Not ever been to Dunwich, It is on my list to visit but probably next year now
Dunwich and Westleton heaths are one of my favourite areas in Suffolk.
Thanks for sharing this walk as it's one I want to do and more do now... it looks beautiful.
Enjoyed it, Jenny 😊
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. It is beauriful there
Really enjoyed that thank you, we were there last summer and it brought back lovely memories. I know it`s a different part of the world but your walk across the heath reminded me of Thomas Hardy`s The Return of the Native...good stuff !
Thank you 😀
Think the trig point might need to be rescued soon getting a bit close to the edge
