As much as I do like Universe mode I am aware it requires improvements as you said more cutscenes would be ideal I also want more choices in the mode you know like say after a match with a rival if a cutscene is going to happen I would like to pick and if in a rivalry you had been ambushed before a match starts you could choose to not see that again, I can't tell you how sick and tired I am of the cutscene were someone runs into the ring and hits a double leg takedown and just beats on the other guy I mean after the first time he should see it coming. variety is the spice of life after all.

At the end of a royal rumble, I would love to see some stats of what happened in the match. Like who eliminated who, how long each person lasted. It would be cool to make some rivalries out of that

You can change the match types in the editor, as well as show settings.

I Miss Having Story Designer In WWE Games, Because If You Couldn’t Get Any Good Storylines Out Of Universe Mode, You Could Always Make Them Yourself In Story Designer. For me, It’s Kinda Hard To Play Universe Mode Without Story Designer

The promo in WWE 2K 19 makes no sense but the worst thing I've seen is the fact that when you cut a promo and you're a champion the champion does not come out with a belt

There's literally no reward to playing it. This is why so many people want GM mode back because you had a challenge and a goal: to beat the other brands, and become GM of the year. But for me I actually want story mode to return because of the ability to share play with WWE games community, it could really help with life span of the actual game.
The First Ever Black Person If Universe Mode incorporates GM Mode features it would create what fans what. I’m really surprised that Universe Mode hasn’t included some type of authority figure in recent years.

The reward is getting to book your own promotion. Maybe that’s not something everyone likes and thinks is worth playing but I love booking a dream promotion.
That said I wish they would add a GM mode into universe for people that really want GM mode back.
bill gates I don’t give a shit if what I booked is “good”. I like what I booked, that’s all that matters. I book for myself and no one else. I don’t want a challenge, I want to go in and make storylines and match cards I like. That’s it.
I played GM mode on the old games and what those games considered “good” was annoying. And I don’t care about contracts and morale and stuff. That’s great for other people but I couldn’t care less. I found that stuff a chore to do. All I care about is match cards and title histories.
TripleX2600 that was years ago, imagine if they meshed elements from universe with a new and improved GM mode, it could work very well

@@austin31697 yeah but with finn, the demon isn't a different persona, its a part of him, and its stupid that the demon can be the champion, without the belt being on the man as well, since he wouldn't come out as the demon for things like promos. its also kind of dumb that you could hypothetically have the demon beat the man or vice versa in anything other than a dream sequence type thing, like what happens in 2k19's My Career mode. Plus if they did put the effort into making the demon just an alternate attire, it would have the added benefit of making it possible to have a separate entrance for each attire.

I think 2K is missing out by not relying on WWE history for the cutscenes and storylines. Reskin the stuff from WWE 2K14's 30 Years of WrestleMania or mo-cap classic storylines to integrate them into Universe Mode. You can have the Rollins Mania cash-in or the Austin WM X-Seven turn. All with current stars and CAWs.

This is actually the first year where I've given up on a Universe mode in the newest WWE game and just went back with old games as I'm currently enjoying WWE 12/WWE 2K14/SVR 11 over WWE 2K19. I've used to put a lot of hours and pre-order every new game but it's gotten so stale where I just can't be excited anymore. I miss THQ at this point since 2K did nothing to continue on their features. I get it that 2K19 is by far the best of this current gen but it comes to a point where it gets boring pretty quick. At the very least we were given a proper story mode this year.
@millennial Smark Yes, Yukes are developing still after all these years but the publisher has the pull on the product itself. 2K main interest is to get as much cash as possible just look at the NBA 2K series and what has been happening over the past few years. There was even an interview where they said that they wanted to introduce microtransactions to WWE games in the future. When 2K took over they made sure to remove all of the features that have been in the games prior as they wanted to have their own touch but look at how stale the previous features got. THQ used to make loads of videos talking about every aspect of the game including the yearly Universe mode updates. THQ marketing used to promote the game months before the release with public appearences and gameplay demos while 2K strategy is to talk a month or weeks before the release and so there is zero hype to the games themselves. THQ considered WWE a big thing while to 2K it's just another franchise. I doubt that THQ as publishers would have given up on 2K18 Switch version the way 2K kept quiet.

I think the universe mode is meant for people who want manage the matches not actually play the game. Its way more fun to customize from the ground up
Totally agree with you about 12 that unpredictability really made it good and is the only reason I continue to play universe mode every year in hopes that it’ll go back to that and if you really think about it the games recently kind of match WWE TV just going through the motions

the GM Mode with cutscenes for each feud you choose would be phenomenal, SvR 2008 GM Mode had all kinds of storyline, like a "Winning a diva's heart" or "Undesputed Champion" but it just felt strange, cause there was no cutscenes for the mode, so i think if GM Mode returns for the next game, it gotta have some cutscenes in it.
GM mode was awesome, but then I would always get blown out of the water by the CPU brands, but it was still fun.
The problem is it has to be like wwe12 universe,it was perfect many storylines and unexpected outcomes, and they have to get rid of rivalries because it doesn't branch storylines at all
There was an option in Smackdown vs raw 2011 called "create a story" that allows you to create your own cutscene, that was really nice

Mean Machine Playing Universe Mode and dealing with surprise situations as they occur is way more fun and exciting than losing that spontaneity and setting it up beforehand in a boring old GM (might as well call it what you want, God Master) mode. I actually know how to cause injuries and I play universe mode adding some side rivalries to give a reason to play more of the show, so adding injuries is a way for me to sideline a character to give them a push coming back. However injuring them is too much time consuming and it requires for up to 3 weeks of constant damage??? That gets annoying quick in my honest opinion, also hey there! 👋🏻
How I cause injuries in universe mode is simple, I injure them into the first phase (e.g the minor injury) and then simply remove them from the roster for a while as if it was actually a major injury and needed to be sidelined that way I don't have to go through the process and it still feels like they were injured in the storyline.

agreed!! sometimes when you do injure them in the feud and go check the damage in "Superstars" box itll show damage then you'll face them the oncoming week for.them to bring out another person then they heal up and you have to start over.
the game would be better if it weren't so many modes like Universe, Showcase, & Mycareer. cause its cutscene in each of those that's not not in the the other modes. they should incorporate it all into 1 mode.
Feels great to find someone who gets it! I swear, no one really knows what Universe mode was supposed to be. They act like its supposed to be a GM mode where you control and know everything that will happen. No, that was not the initial pitch/appeal.
Universe mode is supposed to an a unpredictable, infinitely entertaining season mode. Where you get to enjoy the fantasy of having your own living and breathing WWE universe that evoles over years. You aren't supposed to know exactly what will happen. You are meant to be surprised and intrigued by how things play out.
WWE 12 was the best version of this. If things continue along the lines they were meant to we would have a ridiculously awesome replayable mode that fans would be hooked on in 2K22.
Imagine a universe where superstars are switching shows, crazy rivalries are showing up that you didn't predict, (setting up rivalries and giving them an exact length of time is so stupid and boring IMO). Old feuds that died years ago suddenly spark back up. Tag teams breaking up and forming new teams. Stables being born after a series of events.
So much cool shit is supposed to be happening. I can understand if they let you rewind a situation or edit things if you don't like them but letting the game create this awesome universe with varied, and unpredictable scenes and outcomes is supposed to be the bread and butter of universe. I am so disappointed the developers have abandoned that.
I would like to see a show invasion storyline added where you choose superstars from different brands and one crosses over and attacks the superstar.

Wwe 13 will always have the best universe mode. I fucking loved how tag teams were formed in that game. I was having a lot of John Cena Vs CM Punk matches and Brock Lesnar kept Interfering. This caused Cena and Punk to have a couple of matches against Brock and eventually lead up to the game asking me if I wanted them to be a tag team. I feel like the newer games don't do cool shit like that any more.
You are absolutely Right Dude/I hope 2K Brings Back everything you said in the videos I would love to see them return & hope your feeling well also I would like to see backstage Brawl with superstars arriving in thier cars & Bang You have a backstage Brawl & when it ends security & or referees come in to break it up or even have one of the McMahons like when bruan Strowman was stripped of his universal championship match then he flipped the limousines over that would be fun to see

My issue with rivarlies in universe if the none of the rivals are champions none of the titles are contended. That and the taker rivalry breaks if he's a champion or contender
At time whenever there’s an after match scene like a post match assault there like no one there attacking the superstars, it looks like John Cena is attacking every superstar every time
Can't believe you actually didn't mention the biggest issue. The matches are EXTREMELY REPETITIVE... I fought The same opponent in a rivalry for almost 16 PPVs straight
They should do a mode like nba 2k gm mode and have you create your own show and compete against Wwe or simply just bring back gm mode.
Why would anyone hope for voice acting in Universe mode? The best Season modes of the past didn't have voice acting and people don't mind that much, their still considered among the best story modes. Also not every superstar needs specific dialogue for their promos. Only a few do really.
Wwe 2k19 doesn’t even have the traditional Smackdown vs Raw survivor series storyline
Would love to be able to assign a heel or face general manager to a show. That way he/ she can intro an element of spontaneity, random interferences and an authority figure. Another thing I'd love is voice acted lines in universe modes, way way more cut scenes.
I definitely think that Universe Mode needs better cutscenes. Like older things we have seen like somone popping up from beneath the ring, either creating a hole in the matt or coming from the banners.
I also think you should be able to exit the ring in a royal rumble match going under the bottom rope.
Maybe other cutscenes need to be added as well, someone sitting at the announce table for a big spot and charging into the ring to break up a pinfall or attacking the men in the ring. We need to bring back tag team betrayals and run ins in all matches.

I miss a feature back in WWE'12 where the Royal Rumble winner would sit at ringside during a Champion vs Champion match and you would attack the champion you wanted to face

I loved the weenie in 12. In the first match I did, I played as my self insert OC who was attacked by a returning Brock Lesnar post match, which started a several month rivalry where the two of us constantly attacked each other before and after matches until I was attacked after a match by another heel only for Lesnar to save me. We were then scheduled to tag together the next week and the two of us fromed a stable and Lesnar turned babyface and our stable dominated the entire roster for the full time of the stables run. Good times.

I would love to see the boo and cheer system have an overhaul. For instance wrestlers like John Cena gets boos and cheers. So that would be a great thing to see as storylines progress. Seeing the crowd split there boos and cheers for certain wrestlers. Give the crowd actual life make them matter.

They need to somehow blend Create-A-Story with Universe Mode, have more rivalry and storyline angles such as 6-man rivalries, Wrestler & Manager rivalries, Grudge matches, Intergender Love Angles or rivalries and more diverse segments.

I usually play Universe mode as a second career mode, and to me that makes it a little more fun, especially in 2k19 as Buzz’s VA didn’t fit with most of my CAW’s. But I agree with pretty much everything in this video. I miss the previous games where you could at least decide a basic storyline for a rivalry. The promos make absolutely no sense. I remember I did an injury storyline where Edge injured my CAW, then after nearly a year when the injury status wore off, I turned my caw face and had him return in his hometown to interrupt Edge during a promo. For whatever reason the crowd decided to be dead, commentary team said literally nothing, and Edge just ran away. Branching storylines definitely need to make a return. I like the traits system (bold/cowardly, loyal/treacherous, etc) but it should only open up options for you. And sometimes it doesn’t even make sense. My character’s a face, why is HE attacking the heel before a match? I really hope they add more to it, but it’s hard to stay optimistic

Yeah no offense to 2k but universe mode needs an overhaul. It’s the same bs every year. Let us choose what the superstars say in promos by inserting text (similar to create a story), choose our own cutscenes to happen when and how.

I love the universe mode. I play the game with my brother, and it can be so much fun if you do it right (which is your own way).
For us however, we start off the new universe mode with a draft. I think we drafted 15 superstars each, and then we got random selections after that in each turn. I control Smackdown, and he has control of RAW.
We play about 3 shows each in every month, sharing all the PVP's, and sometimes we create "2" PVP's, but only so it gives us the possibility to have 14 matches on the big PVP's.
We share a Women's title, TagTeam title and now a new Smackdown vs RAW Championship, which will be defended against the other shows number one contender.
We also share the Cruiserweight title (We do not have 205 Live, so every cruiserweight can go for every title), as well as the UK title.
If a champion loses his or her title, there is no automatic rematch, therefore they have to go through a normal number one contender match, to earn the chance.
During events like the Royal Rumble, we do a 30 man and women, where both brands have 13 superstars each, with 4 new or legends returning for that show only (Unless they actually end up winning). To make it fair and more exciting, we don't play the Royal Rumble matches ourselves, but we look on as spectators. Like a general manager would.
We started off with Extreme Rules, and now we just finished the Royal Rumble PVP, so we've almost played through a whole year in-game. As we like the storytelling, and the "some-what realism", we don't play the matches as if its win or lose, but more in the lines of making a match and show feel like its real. For us thats the fun part, because it gives us the possibility of creating fun storylines etc. It takes time, but you sure get a lot of cool matches that way.
I'll list off each title and its champion (Note: I, as Smackdown, has a lot of the titles right now, but that changes over time.)
Smackdown;
* WWE Champion; Drew McIntyre (Our longest running Champion, winning it back from Triple H, after Triple H cashed in his MITB)
* Women's Champion; Bianca Belair (Won the Womens Money In the Bank match)
* US title; Mike Kanellis (Won it on his debut against Hideo Itami, after the DLC came out)
* TagTeam; Street Profits (Won it off the Usos)
* Cruiserweight; Pete Dunne (Been one of the universe modes longest running Champion, also being a 2-time Champ)
* UK; Zack Gibson
* Smackdown vs RAW; Roman Reigns (Beating Cesaro (RAW), Aleister Black (RAW) and Dean Ambrose (Samckdown) in a Fatal 4 Way at the Royal Rumble)
RAW;
* Universal Champion; Andrade Cien Almas
* Intercontinental; Ricochet
During the year we also do superstar shakeups, and signing new wrestlers, from both indy and other companies, as well as returning legends. This keeps the universe mode fun, and it gives a boost in storytelling.

Man what I don't like is that if you're a character has two belts and only come out with one. That sucks because in older WWE games you used to come out with two belts ans the promos can be very meh with the same lines. Cutscenes is getting repetitive but this is still a playable universe mode

See me and my brothers play universe mode and have our own brands and had a draft and everything so we make our own stories but adding a lot of these things can make it so much better and I would like for the player to be able to put the cutscenes in with who they want and when they want

Would be nice to have cutscenes using kind of a gameplay interaction, like, cutscenes with multiple options like in an one on one match interference we can choose 3 options and one of them being like "hit a finisher" and then the cutscene become a gameplay with the finisher.

I loved the feature in Universe Mode where you could see what Storylines you can put on. Something like "A jealous contender wants to fight for the Titltle" and then you got all possible and fitting characters for this feud. And got several different cutscenes. I think it was WWE2k14 or something like that. Now I got the feeling, that I always end up the same (I guess because I "always" put up the same character-combinations against eacht others)
Universe Mode was just a bunch of exhibition matches with the same old cutscenes thrown in between. Like how many times do I have to see a rivalry consist of someone getting jumped during their entrance?
Remember when WWE '13 was being promoted, and they made up the bullshit lie that Paul Heyman himself wrote storylines for Universe Mode?

I was thinking... in my case I like a lot 30 years of Wrestlemania so they can bring back that mode like a 2k showcase with the missing matches of 2k14 like Kurt Angle matches, Eddie Guerrero, they have a lot matches incluing from Wrestlemania XXX to Wrestlemania 2019
I have tons of problems with Universe mode, but it's the thing I play most. When we have a story mode like this year, that's a lot of fun and my favorite mode. But after the story is finished, you're not going to play it again. It's a thing you can experience once and then it's useless. Universe mode is at least endless. You can keep diving into it. That's why it needs more attention.
There is so much that needs to be fixed in Universe Mode. Tag team promos, entrance attires for promos instead of ring attires, champions actually have their titles during promos, the ability to insert cutscenes (just to name a few)
I absolutely love the WWE universe mode. I would love to see them add more into this mode such as an option to draft wrestlers to smack down or raw. I’d like to see more variety of storyline’s and maybe the longer you play new custom wrestlers come up through the ranks and old wrestlers retire and lower rated wrestlers have potential to become great. Can’t see them doing it though.

You are absolutely right. The game mode was way better during the THQ days. If WWE still wants to go with rivalries, then they should probably introduce multiple person rivalries and atleast 5 rivalry slot per show(you know that now a days no PPV is of same duration as Raw, right ie more matches should be added to a PPV)

Adding more promo types like Team promos and interviews would make up for the writing (They'd just have to make the writing make sense and have enough variety at that point).
I'd like a Franchise mode like GM mode where go up against different territories like WcW, Ecw ,RoH , AEW etc. And when they lose enough fans and drop in merch you can buy them out and have the option to sign or release the newly aquired talent. The mode should let you set ticket prices, talent contracts, merch prices and let you search for the perfect arenas for ppv like going to Saudi Arabia. Well thats what id personally like.
Seriously we don't need voice acting in Universe mode. HTCP Season Mode is still considered among the best Career mode and that didn't have voice acting. What we need is more promo types.

It would be cool if WWE 2K had a GM/Universe Mode that's similar to NBA 2K19's MyGM....
NBA's MyGM has 2 different versions.... 1 is a MyGM WITH A STORY where you're going to take part of building up an expansion team... While picking up from the story of the previous game's MyGM story. 2 is a simple one where you can choose what team you wanna take part of and then the MyGM thing starts.
It'd be cool if the same case happens with WWE 2K. Like a GM mode with a storyline. Then you're free to operate how you want afterwards, and then another one where there's no storyline and you can just operate freely out of the gate like a universe mode.

So I got a question...
I'm doing a Universe where there are two brands (RAW and NXT) where the WWE Champion, WWE Tag Team Champions, Cruiserweight + Womens Champion travel the roster with an Intercontinental division for RAW and North American for NXT. Onto MITB... MITB seems brand specific. Can I book a MITB ladder match with the briefcase set up on NXT but the match be a mixture of RAW & NXT superstars or do I need to do a briefcase for each brand?
Also wish I had tournaments for Universe mode. Would help to crown new tag champs that way and I personally wanted to do a King of the Ring tournament for Survivor Series where the KOTR winner would face the Royal Rumble winner. Things like this would be nice but nah.
100000% agree with this video! I slowly stopped playing Universe Mode on the new gen consoles. After 2K15 it started to go downhill🤦🏻♂️
It’d be cool to instead of have promos (because it’s literally impossible to make them realistic in a constantly changing roster for a yearly game) they should make good use of the news tab. For example, rivalries that don’t happen on the sow can be shown in the news tab as something like a Twitter attack, backstage interview slander, and a slanderous promo. A really heated rivalry can have after a match you play, the loading of a cutscene where a member of the rivalry (sometime later after a match in which none of the rivals are in) is doing something either backstage or cutting some type of promo when they are attacked by another member/members. I feel like this stuff could work.
I would love them to bring GM mode or storyline creator back. The thing that has kept me reluctant to play universe mode is the lack of control, cutscenes and all. I try playing from time to time but there's just not enough going on to keep me invested.
They should bring story designer back. We should be able to customize the cut scenes for rivalries. Like Contract signings, backstage attacks, after match attacks, promos, etc. We should also be able to change the text for the promos and the commentary for the scenes. Then when we play the show we get a full customizable experience like its our own show.
I think instead of "rivalries", they should add "storylines" into universe mode where you choose the wrestlers involved and get cutscenes based on match results. For instance, you could choose a storyline where wrestler A kidnaps Wrestler B's girlfriend. You choose who's involved, get cutscenes showing the kidnap and backstage segments, and it dictates the final match of the storyline. Create 50 pre planned ones and add more with each entry.
I used to play it all the time in SVR 11 and WWE 12. Since WWE 2K16, it's slowly died, and by WWE 2K18, it was dead. It gets old within one month of playing it, and things are just reused over and over again. I feel like they show revamp Universe Mode by bringing back GM Mode and mixing the two together. You can play as a GM and book the shows, or you can play as the superstars in the shows.
What I think-

All sports games by 2k and EA have made me go back to the pirate lifestyle, at-least for their games.
The thing for me is that it's so illogical and buggy that it makes it frustrating to play, and the devs sitting on their asses and not updating or fixing things doesn't help. In my universe mode, I had a feud with Pete Dunne and Joe Coffey. They got teamed up for whatever reason against what was supposed to be Mark Coffey and Wolfgang, and yes, they're all in a stable together in my universe. When the match started, instead of Coffey and Wolfgang coming out, Fabian Aicher and Marcel Barthel came out, no cutscene or nothing, they just came out in their regular entrance. Then, I got the cutscene where the enemies decide who they want to start the match. Coffey starts the match and then Wolfgang just randomly appears in the ring and starts to attack Coffey. After that, Wolfgang goes and literally stands right beside Pete Dunne on the apron like he's gonna get tagged in, and he stays there for the rest of the match.
