American football is fought like war. Superior deployment of superior firepower. Logistics. Supply lines. Intelligence.
Good rugby is more like how a wolf pack hunts. Big, small, rangy, and thicc, they all have their core roles, but can flow in anywhere to fill a need.

There is no rule saying you shouldn't contest scrums in Rugby League.
The reason that scrums are not contested in League (and hence are less physical than in Union) is that you can put the ball in straight to your hooker so there's no point contesting it.
In Rugby Union the ball has to be put in straight down the middle between the 2 teams and so it is worth contesting it.
