  • Up here in the Northeast our cars like to rust. The coolant bypass pipe that runs under the driver side of the engine really likes to rust as this is the second time Ive had to replace it.
Here Ill walk you through how I like to replace it.
Note: the 2012 Forester part is 14050AA991 but has been replaced by 14050AA992 even though the replacement does not indicate compatibility with the 2012 year models.

Thanks for making these! I've got the same model year and up in New England, so I'm plagued with the same issues you are. These videos help tremendously and you've got fantastic angles!

great video, thank you. MN Forester getting this done asap. I will be draining the coolant fully first so not worrying about the hot swap of caps and pipes. 179K miles and no idea when the system was Flushed previously so its due anyway.

Yea, it's honestly probably best to just get all new coolant in there while tackling the job ... I just forgot to get coolant before I decided to get started.

I was able to accomplish this without moving or lifting the engine at all, it was a tricky puzzle getting the pipe in taking a good 15minutes of head scratching so not sure it saved at time in the grand scheme.

that pipe should be made out of stainless steel so it doesn't corrode......never heard have having to life an engine for such a "minor" repair.
