I had the opportunity to see Eldridge play against Ken Burroughs and Texas Southern in Nashville. Was it ever a mismatch Tennessee State beat them 55-0. The best college football team I have ever seen.

He was drafted #1 by the Oakland Raiders in 1967. He was a classic drop back QB who could run and catch. He was the first Black QB ever drafted #1. He was arbitrarily switched to Wide Receiver.

+Younte Anderson They Raiders ruined his career this was stated by ex KC Chief HC Hank Stram but he (Stram)has his own skeletons he switched Otis Taylor from QB to WR he was a grad of Prairie View A&M.

@@dwightlove3704 Hank Stram started a Black Middle Linebacker Wilie Lanier and later a Strong Safety (don't remember his name) His Superbowl Championship team had a the majority of Blacks starting on defense. He would have played Dickey at QB and Al Davis knew that and drafted him. Why would Oakland use their first draft choice on a QB to play another position.

@@Beanski Emmet Thomas was the person.Only Al knew now he is dead.If Stram had taken Dickey when had the chance he might have beaten out Len Dawson.

It's a damn shame he never truly get a fair shot at playing quarterback. He actually out played Ken Stabler but you saw how Eldrige ended up. A complete travesty!
