The crown of someone’s head can mean different things to different people so it’s nice to see the diagram from two different angles as well as where and how the bobby pin was placed. I don’t speak the language but I feel I can easily follow this tutorial with the proper materials.
Now THIS is a hair tutorial. Those diagrams are great and even though I do not speak Japanese, the video instructions look easy enough to follow, albeit with proper skills and materials. Well done!

Just so pretty.I know a lady in Honolulu who was recruited in beauty school to do these hairstyles for brides in Hawaii who come over from Japan, it is cheaper to marry in Hawaii then Japan . This women has supported her 2 kids and husband just from doing these wedding hairdo's, Over 35 years now.
This gentleman is super gifted and talented... wow .. what a gorgeous creation... I am so amazed how talented he is .... what a treasure ... just beautiful.

This is usually passed down in an apprenticeship by a family member through generations or teacher.. I know for maiko hairstyles it is an apprenticeship of either men and women and it takes many years to be even able to touch another person's hair.
That was a study in extreme patience; the bride was obviously psyched up for all the teasing, tying, pulling, brushing and combing... And the result was very elaborate but beautiful...
SoundShinobiYuki what are you talking about there like 20 pins and few hairties at most and max 10-20% of volume is from teasing and the rest is cotton/foam: theres not even that much to brush out. Japanese ladies used to wear keep the hairdo for a week long but honestly, between drenched in hairspray and teased vintage style and elaborate braided styles this isnt the worst thing to get out of your head.
This is one of the traditional hair style. Even today it requires specialist to make this hair style. Wonder how people did it create the hair style when there were no pins, curls, hair spays...
Wooden pins they called bodkins, wooden or bone needles along with string/ thread to bind the hair. Then either sugar water or a starch of some sort in place of hair spray.
As far as I can understand he's just explaining where he sections the hair and what are the important pointers on the sections ("comb the hair smoothly this way and then twist it like this", "fold the hair like this and then pin it on", "make a section of about two cm here", "the bun should cover about this much of her ear" and so on and so forth) He's talking a lot, but it's all that kind of hair stuff explaining the process :D
My dad did many things during the war in the Navy. Cutting hair was one of them. He even cut Gen. Eisenhauer's hair at the time! Did I spell it right? So, he cut my brother's hair too. Everyone came to him for their hair cuts. Though, that's not what he did for a living. He was a welder, minister, and a teacher. He taught welding at a high school.

同じことを思いました。ピンがない時代、どうやったのでしょうね？ピンだけじゃなくて、カーラーもスプレーもない。日本髪はいまの日本髪と大分違ったシルエットだったかもしれませんね。
明治頭生まれの曾祖母は、頭のてっぺんに髷型をつけてた跡がありました。
昔は木製で長年同じ位置に使っていたからか、そこだけ禿げてました。

しかし洗髪はそんなに頻繁じゃなかったはずだけど頭皮の臭いとかどうしていたのかも気になります………
