In this video I show you how to properly clean the carburetor on a 4 stroke MX bike helping you avoid common mistakes and have a better running machine.
Today I tried to remove the carb off my yz250f and called it quits before I messed anything up. Then I saw your videos and all my questions were answered. Thanks to you I know exactly what I'm doing. Thank you!
thanks for this! I haven't had a bike in ten years and just bought a four stroke last night. I was scared as hell to pull apart a 4 stroke carb but, thanks to your videos, I'm not so sketched out now! I will follow up later tonight when I actually do it and let you know how it went. Thanks again!!
watched this vid like 20 times before i took apart mine. hoping i did it right. testin it tomorrow. thanks for the vid, oops, didnt know about o-ring on fuel screw
I WISH that I would have found your Video Earlier.....I have had an Issue with my DRZ 400 E since I got it last year, a Vacuum Issue....Vacuum Release Plate & Seal.. I will be installing the new parts this week when they arrive. You could have saved me a lot of Internet searching ! :-)
thanks... bike has been setting up wile i had knee replacement...finally went to check on her....carb is not passing gas... tore it off tonight, going to take it apart and clean it up... 06 YZ450F
@KillerWalrus2845 It would help to know what bike you have. Start with the simple things first. Check the spark plug, then the valves. From there clean the carb. Check the hot start to make sure the plunger is working correctly and that you have just a little slack in the cable. Since you feel like this could be a fuel problem I would also remove the petcock from the tank and check the screen on it.
@jfashner The RMZ in the video was a 2006. The hot start plunger is bad about sticking if it's not serviced on a regular bassis. In the video you will notice that I stuff the spring area full of grease and then put a light coat on the plunger. You should remove the hot start at least every 6 months and clean and regrease it to avoid sticking. While you have the plunger out it's also a good idea to lube the cable.
@troy118 It's common to see that near the air screw on the carb but not on or around the bowl. First I would make sure the drain plug is tight and if so an o ring kit could be a good idea.
@matrixx29 Ok, first I would open the bowl drain screw on the bottom of the carb bowl with the fuel petcock turned on to see if fuel runs out. Fuel should run out of the vent tube on the carb bowl. Next make sure the hot start plunger is not sticking open. Double check the pilot jet. It has a very small orifice and has to be perfectly clean. Also, you might want to check the valve lash. If one or more of the valves are tight that could cause your problem. Hope this helps.
I also live in new york so its currently middle of winter. so this could be the reason for my bike running leaner then usual. but have the new exhaust might make my bike run somewhat richer. just thought i would tell you because when spring comes around my carb will probably have to be re-jetted.
@sabhacker101 A 2 stroke carb is a lot like a 4 stroke carb only easier. You still have a pilot jet and main jet that need to be cleaned. The float and inlet needle are just like a 4 stroke carb. A 2 stroke does not have an accelerator pump and the slide is only 1 piece so you don't have the vacuum plate to deal with.
What is the year and model of that RM-Z? It looks just like mine. I had a BIG problem taking the carb off though. The video was awesome, but the hot start plunger was stuck in the carb. What a pain, had to drill a hole in the plunger and drill a screw into the plunger then pull it out. Good news is, I'm now ready to watch this video!
@MEXIMOB1987 The stock pilot jet in that bike was a 40. You probably need a 42 pilot jet if it hasn't been changed already. The fuel screw really just fine tunes the pilot jet. If the pilot is too rich or lean the fuel screw will not make enough difference to correct it. It sounds like you have a lean bog and a larger pilot jet should fix it.
Forshee, my son and I used your video "Tips on buying a used dirt bike". Thanks so much saw some really bad deals but found a really nice Yamaha YZ250F. Thanks for the awesome advice! Is there tool kit specific to this particular bike? Which service/repair manual would you recommend, besides your videos, for this particular bike. Best, Mike
Hey man thanks you so much for the quick response I really appreciate it. One more question on the bottom of my carb should I take the float bowl out to clean my jets and replace them. Or can I just take that bolt out of the bottom to get the job done?
@ForsheeMS Awesome, thats my bike! I got a new plunger, spring and plastic threaded sleeve coming. Any idea how I get the old one off the hot start cable? This video is great, but I found I need a smaller flat head to get the pilot & the start jet out. So off to the hardware store again.
hey man great vid! I'm having an issue though.. cleaned the carb as you showed, but it still will not run. BUT if i squeeze some gas directly into the carb she starts and runs for just a sec while that gas burns up. So i know gas is getting from the bowl to the cylinder. but it seems as if it's starving from the tank. I've checked the tank, it flows freely from tank to carb. any thoughts?
hi, thanks for making this video, i have a question maybe you can help me out. the carburator on my 03 wr250f has a fuel screw that is on the outside of the bowl, it is made so that you can grab it with your fingers and adjust without removing the bowl. with that being said, i cleaned the carb just like the video put it all back together and it would fire right up with choke on, with choke off would not run with the fuel screw 1 3/4 out it will not run.
@gagefixer Generally the CRF150R was jetted too lean from the factory. It needs a 45 pilot jet providing everything is all stock. Give that a try and your bog should go away.
turn it about 4 turns out and it runs but idle is hard to get leveled out, Also the fuel screw gets real loose allowing motor vibrations to cause it to turn, could my pilot jet be (re)stopped up, do you think the tiny o-ring might have fallen out on me during reassembly? the only other thing i had trouble with was the seal on the valve vacuum control, it kept wanting to swell and not stay in place. any suggestions on parts i may need to order before i rip it apart again would help lots, thanks.
Hey mate, great video. My Piaggio 125 was giving me trouble and it turned out the carb was dirty. The mechanic charged me for 2 hours work. Would you say that was fair enough?
on my carb i notice that it collects dirt on the carb a lot and i am using a two stroke i think it leaks a little and the dirt and mudd collects under the drain plug and on the sides of the carb should i buy a new o ring kit for it
My raptor idles super high. Almost redlines as soon as you start it up. Now it does anyways. And before it was like the choke was stuck or something. It would idle fine. A little high.. But as soon as you gave it gas it would bog out and die. Just a dirty carb and needs adjusted or what?
Also my friend is telling me not to mess with the jets or float bowl because when removing the jets they have to be screwed in a certain amount of turns to tune the carb is this true ?
hey have an 06 rmz450 that seems to be leaking gas out of the bolt on the bottom of the float bowl. I have tried tightening it but it still seems to be leaking. do you have any idea what it could be?
Can you give me a Ideal of which goes in first... I noticed on this video that the 0-ring and spring and washer came out on you also like it did me, but my problem is they fell off before i could tell how they went back in on the fuel screw.. could you let me know sure would appreciate it.. thanks
hey i have a yz 125 and when i go to wide open throttle the sound of my exhaust is not smooth as it should be. reving to 1/8 up to 1\2 throttle my bike pings and is crispy. i just added a FMF gold series header and vforce3 valve. i understand the main jet controls 1/2 throttle to WOT. while reving the bike out it sounds very raspy like a roooohhhhhaaaaa sound. perfect example is someone trying to scream at the top of there lungs but there voive cracks and is raspy. please give me some advise!
hey I have a 2008 crf150r expert and I just got my valves done about 4 months ago and since then only had about 4 or 5 rides on it it always stared 2nd or 3rd kick but I rode it twice in the last week and -I had to bump start it cause kicking wouldn't do any thing could this be jetting if so what should I do go richer or leaner or any ideas on this thanks
My bike was running fine for about 45 min, then gradually it started sputtering whenever i gave it gas(maybe 1/4 throttle) more and more like it wasn't getting gas, it's pretty bad, carb related? or is it electrical, valves? This happened while i was riding, please help
This vid works well on laptop but galaxy 7 you cant see a clear pic. Ive been back to this vid a couple of days later and still the same on phone??? Good bid to watch on laptop though. 🤓
I have a WR400F and it runs great with the choke pulled out but when I push in It dies. What could that Be if anybody knows? I cleaned the carb it did the same thing before that.

Just wanted to say thanks for making this vid! I had no idea how to pull a carb apart before this, but was easy after watching the vid! cheers.
Great video, a shame it's not in hd.

Thanks for your video! Great information. btw, try to white balance your camera to improve contrast. Hard to see the little parts.
@ForsheeMS

Spring goes on the fuel screw first, then the washer, then the o ring.
Hello Sir, could you please tell me if the plate (7:37min) fits perfectly or is it a bit loose?

What bike do you have? Could be the jetting isn't quite right.
ima try this

When I took off my fuel screw I didn't have a washer or a o ring? Is that bad?
Thanks for the video... but you should consider re-recording on something other than a potato.
Can you give me a Ideal of which goes in first... I noticed on this video that the 0-ring and spring and washer came out on you also like it did me, but my problem is they fell off before i could tell how they went back in on the fuel screw.. could you let me know sure would appreciate it.. thanks
spring, washer, o-ring.
some have washer, spring, washer, o-ring
I hit the AP with carb cleaner too? Should I replace that too?
@matrixx29 First off what bike is it? I need to know that to help with your problem.

I wish I could see all these marvelous parts but this appears to have been uploaded from a ZX80!
hi there! is the yamaha xt 125 x carb pretty much the same as in this video? thanks

I have a question, my '07 KTM 250 SXF has a blanked out leak jet in it's carburetor....why is that??
my bike has the same problem but it is an 04 kawi KLX 125. What should I do ?
This vid works well on laptop but galaxy 7 you cant see a clear pic. Ive been back to this vid a couple of days later and still the same on phone??? Good bid to watch on laptop though. 🤓
Good video, but not very clear. A Go pro would be a really good investment for you. You can use it for riding, and for better quality videos.
ForsheeMS,
I got a ktm 525 exc, after running for a bit the float bowl hose just starts dumping petrol.
What do you think it is?
RageTomczyk
Anyone help ive gotta yamaha vity 2009 i jsut went out on in come back turned it off then tried to start it and wont start any ideas?
I have a WR400F and it runs great with the choke pulled out but when I push in
It dies. What could that Be if anybody knows? I cleaned the carb it did the same thing before that.
+Lori Brown change idle
@ForsheeMS sorry. 2009 RMZ250, JUST like the one in your vid.
Is there a difference between a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke carb?
Yes. Most 4 stroke carbs are more complicated than 2 stroke carbs.
the32honda amen lol
My problem.. I hit that gasket on the back of the slide plate with carb cleaner and it wrinkled up.. Who know that little gasket was so expensive!?
Good info but a glare on all of the parts you held. Readjust lighting.
Sub frame. Not thesis frame
like
that arm does not have to come out to get the slide out......
you mean they jet them to rich from the factory.. not to lean
maybe you could use a shitter camera next time
This video is almost 6.5 years old. Where you even born when this was uploaded?
U ass... he did not have to do this for your sorry ass at all! And you would pay some dealer 350.00 to do the samething...damn liberals suck!
recorded this shit on a potato
filmed with a potato
Do you have to take thesis frame off to get to the carb on a 250f?
