the more entertaining, viewer-friendly matchup would be against Minnesota; the offensive fire power between the two squads is fairly even, if not slightly tilted towards NY... NY versus Connecticut would be entertaining too, but CT wins when their defense is turned up a notch & is more physical, which may turn off some viewers.

Nobody in the state of New York or any other place would consider a New York WNBA championship to be the first since 1973… Nobody views it that way

I know basketball is big there but Elle is talking like the state hasn’t had a champion in anything since then. There’s been multiple MLB, NFL, NHL, and NCAA teams in New York that have won since the 70’s.
Disagree. While most New York basketball fans may not consider it, there's a growing fanbase of basketball "purists" who appreciate the game and how the women play it.
Also, the basketball championship drought in NY has been too long to split hairs.

That's because basketball has declined in NY for years due to the knicks and nets under performing forever. Baseball took center stage and never looked back in that state. The Liberty can fix this for sure.
Pretty sure the viewership fell off a while ago when the Fever got knocked out.
This happens in every league though. If the matchup isn't that exciting or the fanbase is small, viewership suffers. See the 2023 world series.

No one is going to get numbers like Clark... but neither is anyone going to get numbers like Michael Jordan and his 36 million NBA Finals views.... but I BET YOU the NBA would be celebrating the 20 million views they used to get during the Warriors dynasty and when Lebron's Heat were in the finals.
Clark's NCAA tournament from the Elite 8 onward were ALL superior to the NBA Finals average the past 5 years.
A million views is nice... but as dominant as Clark's ratings were, they pale in comparison to what she did in the regular season in college.
In other words- not even CLARK can keep most of her audience from college to follow her to the WNBA.... that is how much the WNBA is disliked. So the fact that they even came close to a million without Clark is nothing to sneeze at.
Cheryl Reeve in the last game was wearing a shirt with the LGBTQ flag on it. THAT ALONE with make the ratings for the finals HORRIBLE
People just want to watch basketball but the WNBA is intent upon making it solely an activist league and that is the BIGGEST reason why their ratings are so garbage... and yet they STILL came close to a million. Only reason I can explain is A LOT of the clark fans have stopped watching but A LOT have stayed behind - if for nothing else than to hate watch the Aces and the Sun lose.

Who will face the Liberty could all be dependent on One Sun's Player. Marina. It really didn't matter in Game Four since all the Suns Starters were shooting out of their minds including from 3s. Marina didn't start in Game Four. The Bench shot 2/7 from 3s while the starters shot 6/8 from 3s. The Suns have been an outstanding defensive team, all year LONG. But sometimes the Best Defense is a Good Offense.

I would be more concerned about WHO will be watching the Liberty play the winner of today's game, the question is in my view and it is a big why, is the WNBA Playoff Ratings not crushing the TV views and attendance?

I appreciate the homework but the drop off in playoff attendance can be attributed to the fact that the Aces and Liberty faced each other in the finals. The Sun fanbase is simply not on their level (location, location, location).
I will be watching the WNBA finals and so will many others. Will it match 2023 numbers? Hard to know for certain but keep your baby when you throw out the bathwater.
2024 was a tremendous season for the W and 2025 can only get better. CC, Reese, and the '24 rookies should only get better and then there's a whole new rookie class to check out. It would not surprise me to see the Fever in the semis next year, maybe even the finals. Ain't nothing wrong about that.

No drop-off in attendance, 2023 is 20 games.
In 2024 161,468 in 16 Games, and there are remaining games, so the numbers average attendance, Total attendance, average views and total views can all move up.
My beef is how ESPN and the WNBA are looking back at Stats from the post-COVID-19 RECOVERY YEARS as the base and passing it off as "growth"
The reality is that the WNBA still has not returned to pre-COVID-19 years - close but still not there.
The year is not over, but the playoffs can end up with lower numbers than the regular season 2024 - which hopefully was not a one-off, and will be the numbers going forward.

They aren't talking about it because there's nothing newsworthy there. CC is one of the most popular athletes around. She's probably a bigger household name than most current MLB and NFL stars. She's not playing so some fans of hers aren't watching.
The 1993 NBA Finals averaged a rating of 17.9. This was Jordan's last season before playing minor league baseball. The 1994 NBA Finals averaged a rating of 12.2. No Jordan meant lower ratings. It happens. Next season the Fever ought to make the semis, maybe even the Finals. CC's game should only get better.
