Great Video! Can you tell me what you used to get this footage. What Microscope? What Microscope Objectives and Strengths did you use? What eyepiece did you use? And any other helpful tips. I want to show this to my patients. But my microscope isn't cutting it.
This is 10x and then 100x power, this is a phase contrast microscope, that I bought from oratech several years ago. They told me not to touch the settings and the first thing I did was start playing with the settings.
I watched just because I am curious. After looking at many videos of mouth creatures, I must say this video is the without any doubt the best I have ever seen. Thanks for your comments, otherwise I would be lost. After watching I almost sprinted to the bathroom to brush, floss and rinse with salt water. One question: What is the very best system/treatment to keep one's mouth as clean as possible? I'm referring to keeping the numbers of harmful organisms as low as realistically possible.
Thanks Daryl. When I got my microscope the supplier told me not to make any adjustments with the settings. The first thing I did when I got it was start playing with all of the settings. My recommendation would be to use a waterpik for 2 minutes (medium setting), then brush with electric toothbrush using fluoride toothpaste then dip into baking soda, brush 2 minutes then spit. DONT RINSE, and go to sleep. That will geep the bad bugs to a minimal level but this is a multifactorial event and is variable from person to person based on genetics, immune response, ect. I hope that helps.
I would like to know what adjustments you made to your Phase Contrast setup to improve it, so I could try something similar on my PC 'scope. Did you make adjustments in your Phase Contrast Condenser Lenses or the Condenser Assembly to do this? Thanks!
I showed this slide to my RDH Periodontology students and it was a hit! Thanks for your hard work on this slide and for sharing!
you are welcome
I love the added detail after your adjustments! Thanks for sharing!

Just imagine if microscopes never were
Treatment? Listerine
I’m assuming this patient had a major case of periodontal disease. There’s no way there should that much activity going on…
Is there treatment at this stage?
yes of course
Yes. Brush your teeth
Looks like little hummingbirds in there
that is a spirochete, inside a PMN, engulfed by an Amoeba! Crazy recording!
