Here is more background on how Chiyonofuji was scouted. When he underwent appendectomy surgery when he was in junior high school, his abdominal muscles were so thick that the doctors struggled and it took much longer than planned, resulting in Chiyonofuji regaining consciousness just before the operation was completed, but he continued to endure the pain of the loss of anesthesia. Seeing this, the director of a hospital associated with the Kokonoe beya recommended him to the world of sumo.
Thank you very much for this beautiful video. Chiyonofuji is my all time sumo idol. Never knew the pain he experience about his daughter and the specific training he went to recover his shoulder injury. Thanks so much
A great athelete and human being, as Kokonoe Oyakata you could see him visit and even help train the newest rikishi talking to them in private sharing with Takanohana the fight to spread sumo throughout the world (a just cause) he was just everywhere, match making, being a judge, a color cimentator and always supporting and advicing every young Yokozuna in his new rol and burden, he's wrestling with the gods in heaven no doubt.
This is the Japanese Sumo version of Mike Tyson. Brutal strength/power with razor sharp technique and beat monsters much larger than himself in a sport where every pound matters. Unlike Tyson tho, he remained a champion for his entire career
I love this physique, very muscular and a reasonable amount of body fat. I feel like with hard work I can achieve this, but I can't find out anything else about his training methods other than he did 500 pushups a day, and "lifts a barbell". Not very specific...
He was very dedicated, yet the loss of his daughter really caused him a lot of pain to lose his streak.
Arigato for eigo subtitles in your documentary. Chyonofuji was my favorite when I was a kid so watching your video brought back many good memories.

Chiyonofuji was a beautiful gentle soul, my favorite rikishi and the greatest Sumotori of our era.
May his memory eternal 🔥

With all due respect to the great ones; Futabayama, Taiho, and Hakuho, Chiyonofuji will always be, in my eyes, sumo's GOAT.
He has the eyes of a japanese warrior.
Great thanks!
thanks for the video
