As a kid with an interest in classic-era MGM and Looney Tunes shorts, I used to watch Rolf Harris Cartoon Time and Rolf's Cartoon Club, and they were CRAP. This isn't me speaking with the benefit of hindsight. I used to resent every second of him fart-arsing about with his jumbo marker pens because they were precious moments we could have spent watching classic Yosemite Sam, Bugs, Daffy, Tom & Jerry, Droopy, Screwy Squirrel, or Foghorn Leghorn doing their thing. I remember my dad saying 'He'd draw better pictures if he shut his bloody trap for five minutes.' Rolf's Cartoon Club was worse - it was the telly equivalent of one of those giveaway children's comics you'd see at petrol stations, ferry terminals, and toy shops, with pages and pages of adverts plus the odd black and white cartoons you were supposed to colour in, and a couple of reprinted comic strips from the fifties or sixties if you were lucky. A totally cynical branding exercise. He obviously didn't know shit about animation - it was just something this pervert latched on to because it was something kids liked and he could present himself as the cuddly fun uncle with the heart and soul of a child.

I never could understand this sickening fawning over someone who’s “talents” were at best amateurish, kitsch and just outright embarrassing- I busted out loud laughing over that painting of the queen as equally as I was disgusted with the gushing media that were present. And a piece of sheet metal is as much of a musical instrument as Rolf Harris was a musician.
