  • Today Phill and Tyler put the Model Y Acceleration Boost to the test. This is our reaction and thoughts about the $2,000 upgrade. Tesla claims this will bring your Model Y 0-60 time from 4.8 second to 4.2 seconds. Given our experience, do you think it's worth it? Please let us know in the comments. Please like and subscribe for more model Y videos coming soon, including a max capacity towing test!

    Batteries don't perform well in cold temp. So there is a lot working against it - temp, low charge (cpu holds back when charge is low), wet weather, two people in the car, etc. You should test it in warmer, dry weather with just you in the car.

    you need to put it in sport mode, like putting the car in ludicrous mode to get the full beans. Of course it's raining and you have two big dudes in the car. I don't think the temperature has anything to do with it and if anything it should help, maybe it needs to use the heat pump.

      Don’t be an idiot ! The heat pump heats/cools the interior.

    Appreciate the honest review. Feel like 2k isn't worth either. I'd rather get improved wheels or get a complete car window tint or something for the same price.

    yes the wet cold roads plus added weight and possibly wind condition and Not having a 70% or above charge. This is a great experiment you can run with it and make a few more videos. Also try warming up your battery first too that helps. Looking forward to seeing part 2!!

    The acceleration boost brings the 0-60 down to 4.3 seconds. Clearly in your conditions of rain and less charge that will vary but there is no chance your hitting 4.1 with this upgrade (unless going downhill!)

    I love it! You have the exact same car I will be picking up next week north of Seattle. And I have learned from your video that there is no way I am buying that $2K upgrade right now. BTW, if you test it again under full charge and dry, flat conditions, sport mode, and you don't get 4.2, doesn't it make sense to ask Tesla to remove that option and get a refund? What I really think Tesla should do is give every owner the option of a trial period of the 4.8 to 4/2 acceleration boost mode and let the driver decide if they think it is worth it or not.

    Next week's looking dry and decent - time for a Web Redemption? Really enjoy the videos you guys make. Hoping you can post some 0-60s and 1/4 mile times soon. Can't find any 1/4 mile times & MPH on the Y LR with Accel Boost. If you believe Tesla's website, the LR DM runs 4.8 sec to 60, vs. 5.1 when we test-drove one with Dragy, so figuring 0.3 sec rollout on that 4.8 figure would mean the Accel Boost's advertised drop from 4.8 to 4.3 (-0.5 sec) would mean 5.1 minus 0.5 = 4.6 sec as true 0-60 with zero rollout (4.3 w/rollout). Taking 0.5 sec off the one published 1/4 mile time I see for a LR DM of 13.22 @ 109.37 MPH would mean Accel Boost 1/4 would be 12.72 @ maybe 110 MPH on a properly flat road / Valid Dragy.

  • @jaxadams4254
    @jaxadams4254 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You aren’t factoring in the 1’ roll out which Tesla uses to come up with those 0-60 numbers. The roll out is worth about .5 seconds. It is explained in a lot of other videos.

    • @fr3238
      @fr3238 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's only Teslas Performance versions that are measured using a 1 foot rollout. This is a Long Range, so the 1 foot rollout doesn't apply here. The 1 foot rollout doesn't mean 0.5 sec, more like 0.1s.

    • @stantaur3
      @stantaur3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please post your results for 0-60 and 1/4 mile if possible. We're trying to decide whether to get a MYP or a MY-DM with Accel Boost. We'd do the Stealth if they offered it, as the 21" Uberturbines are too heavy (67ish lb vs. regular 19" setups in the low 50s) and fragile for the roads we have in Oregon.

    • @thomasjacques5286
      @thomasjacques5286 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stantaur3 well 3.5 vs 4.2 is faster. Two of my buddies have the MYP but bought some 19” Apollo wheels and tires and are so happy with the results. They made their own “stealth”. They sold the 21” tires/wheels and TPMS and bought the LR AWD tires/wheels with TPMS. They got the range and better ride and had money left over. So if your set on a PERFORMANCE Y that would be my recommendation. But I had to stretch my budget to buy the LR AWD Y in the first place and then saved up to add the Performance Boost Upgrade. But my Y is very satisfying and surprises a lot of my friends. It all boils down to your needs and budget.

    Tesla knows how to market speed. $2k to save .6 seconds is not worth the money. It’s an excellent profit center for Tesla and it just required them changing a few lines of code.

      People pay way more for less boost on an ICE car. Especially in the sub 5-second range.
