Tagore heard Kesarbai in Calcutta, 1938 and wrote an effusive eulogy to her skill but Surashree award was bestowed by Calcutta connoisseurs in 1948. Kesarbai was the only singer, who depended totally on private concerts, but for long used to maintain an annual diary of her engagements, strictly 1/2 per week and the calendar was fixed for the whole year in January. # day's practice and planning with her full team was a must before any concert.
One correction. Kesarbai had one disciple. Vidushi Dhondutai Kulkarni. She learnt from Kesarbai for a very long time and lived an ascetic life. She died recently.

Her surname is KERKAR and not Kelkar. She was born in a small village in Goa.
