I think the Foundation TV series is great. It is not the same story as the books, but more "inspired" by the books. Just because it doesn't follow the books, that doesn't mean it is bad.
When you don't understand the core concept of the books - psychohistory - you shouldn't even try to adapt it. Certainly any adaptation of Foundation is going to have to be very liberal in its interpretation. But the writing is so poor, and they butcher the fundamental ideas of Asimov's work.
I hated how they just casually dropped what were big reveals in the book. I hated how the dumbed down characters. The writers clearly didn't understand Asmiov's concept of Psychohistory, or didn't care. Well acted - Jared Harris was inspired casting - but very poorly written.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer honestly, never read Asimov. I still think the 3 emperors were some of the best TV in this decade. the kid - main protagonist - less so.
Interesting box cover art. The ships look like Babylon 5 Vorlons vs Star Wars Marauder Cruisers. After you said the game was based on the Foundation book series, it got me thinking what scifi books i would like to see become a game. My pipedream would be Iain M Banks Culture scifi stories made into game.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Iain M Banks Scifi Culture stories are set in techno-utopian universe. They are very good. I recommend his scifi novel 'The Player of Game' about a skillful player of board games who takes part in a complex game called Azad what is used to determine social rank and political status.
Its an older game but Core worlds takes another core from Foundation, its a deckbuilding game where you go from outer worlds into the core. With the galactic orders expansion its been in my top 20 for as long as ive owned it. There is a board game as well which is a worker placement game, its fun but long.
I was thinking about a board game version of the old computer game Master of Orion. The only mechanic that I worked out was the exploration system. The player would scout a system and then draw a card. Keeping it hidden from the opponent(s). That way only you would know if the system was habitable and what it’s resource level was. But that’s as far as I got.
This does look like it could be a good game if a few of the mechanics were ironed out a bit. I like your card draw idea. If you ever get a chance, I recommend Imperium Romanum. It has scenarios for Roman history from Marius vs. Sulla all the way to the Reconquest by Justinian. I have the 2nd edition (from the 80s) and recently purchased what some consider to be the 3rd edition. Q: Why didn’t the Dog Star laugh at the joke? A: It was too Sirius.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer The latest Imperium Romanum version is also published by Decision Games. I think it is also called Al Nofi's Imperium Romanum. The Marius vs Sulla scenario begins in 88 BC. The most recent version has a scenario of Emperor Heraclius against Arabs in about AD 620.

Those fuzzy nibs on some of the counters .... triggered! Other than that ... great video!

Looks like yet another game that would be perfect for a computer.

clip the corners of those counters lol

Glad I'm not the only one, thought it was Vorlon vs Centauri, the Centauri have ships like that too just missing the vertical fin.
Not huge into Sci Fi games, but love to see a game about 'Doc" Smith's series Lensman

I have this game in my cupboard of shame; never played. There was a second edition but I don't know what the differences were.
