Those drone shots were absolutely cinematic. I wish I could watch your channel in an IMAX theater. Also falling in love with your Ranger Raptor. If they hold together, the RR is by far the best midsize truck. And compared to the Tacoma, a massive value.
Loved this video Ryan!! Your Mountain Test Course is definitely awesome, but I kinda miss your older videos when you took the vehicles up in to the mountains on the trails off of I-90 to test them. It was such beautiful scenery and not only was there car candy to look at but also nature candy. Lol. Anyway great video as always!
Several years ago, I went up the Hansen Creek road to rescue a guy in an S-10 in the snow. I ended up on top of about six feet of hard snow with my wheels sunk in like your Ranger. It was at night in January and brutally cold. We ended up calling search and rescue to get off the mountain. We somehow recovered the trucks the next day with a portable winch.
Good times Ryan! Appreciate you editing out that one part. lol Your stunt driver is pretty baddass. But seriously though. I love the Mickey Thompsons. I've used soooo many kinds of tires over the years and these are my favorite. They rock in all conditions. (A group of us is headed up to the airfield again this coming Saturday)
Two words for you. Air Jack. Lift it a foot or two to clear out the ice under the truck or put snow under the mat trax under the tires then lower it on the trax and drive out. A lot easier to use than a high lift jack and less dangerous.
13:37 "Basically you void the warranty on your truck" - no, you do not. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 requires a manufacturer to directly link a failure to modification of the good(s) to deny warranty claims. Ford may SAY a lot of stuff about how the warranty becomes invalid, but it's legally not enforcable.
@@andrewc1036 I'm not trying to argue with you but I have had three incidents in which vehicle manufacturers tried to deny a warranty claim based on modifications to the vehicle. In all three instances, it never got beyond me contacting the federal office of the manufacturer, mentioning the Act, and asking them to provide a written account of what particular modification caused what failure of the warrantied part.
When he did the 0-60 test after the Ford Performance tune, I ran the numbers and the truck is now 0.74 seconds faster in a 0-60 which would equivilate to a 12.98% increase.
Congratulations for the upgrade. Btw you should do more overlanding and off road trips. You do them very well. My BMW X3 M40i twin turbo accelerates 0 to 60 in 4.4s, and with more tuning it can go even below 4 seconds. However, it is not an offroad vehicle. It is more track oriented SUV.
As much as people keep wanting to say that Traction Control was responsible for the power cut, it seems no one notices it looks like the Brake lights are on and the truck is ROLLING backwards before the brakes actually engage.
OK, this time a walk in the forest is more realistic and beautiful than a short-sighted trip to the mountains where you really get stuck. As much as we all would like to have such powerful and smart all-terrain vehicles equipped with modern advanced technologies, they do not work in such conditions. The more I see such videos, the more I am convinced of this. In this situation, you (with a probability of 90%) would have been helped by chains on the wheels. This dramatically increases the grip of the wheels with the road in the snow, and in this particular case it would also save a lot of time. Because if these anti-slip mats did not help, then it is serious, I know for myself, I have had them for 11 years or more. Of course, a jack and a shovel in the snow will not hurt, but I think chains would have helped even to climb uphill, if not all 4 wheels, then on the 2 rear ones for sure. Although 4 would be great in general.
Yeah I live in Canada where it snows about half the damn year so I got dedicated Winter tires for my LC250. She is a beast in the snow with the Winters on. Definitely makes a big difference
I think the bronco is also has better weight distribution compared to the raptor with a light rear end so the raptor may seem like it’s slipping more but I think the Ko3’s are still good in the snow.
I’d get the extra power just because I could. The thing I noticed in this video was the exhaust drone. I would hate that and it’s one of the things I dislike on my 4Runner TRD Pro. Other than that it looks like a great truck and a lot of fun.
In my experience, exhaust drone is less noticeable in pickups than in SUVs. I assume because the exhaust outlets are a significant distance from the cab in trucks.
Pls install mud flaps or mud guards. It will look better, keep your truck clean, and you will show other drivers on the road that you care about their paint and windshields.
What is the most fuel-efficient 2 row SUV that could do the same in the video, but, say, with better winter tires? Talking about some of the city cars like RAV4, Highlander etc?
@@0HOON0 That's fine! My mistake, should've specified I asked for fuel efficiency in normal city conditions ONLY but with the same or similar capability offroad with winter tires where fuel efficiency is not a priority.
Great video! Curious as to what drone you used to film today’s video? Also did you have a pilot or did you use the subject tracking mode on the drone? Thanks for the great content. Keep up the great work.
It's puzzling why Ford engineers the truck the way it is, then how easily they enable to add that much extra performance. I would be extremely cautious about flashing my vehicle and adding that much extra performance (increasing boost most likely) if it was an aftermarket tool. I always thought that it's safer to keep values stock where Ford tested the engine and that way the danger of damage to engine components is much lower. Now I'm confused.
It's OK. Raptors were cold-blooded animals and didn't fare well in snow, either. In honor of this extinct fearsome predator, Ford gave the Ranger Raptor more prowess for warm weather terrains.
Why didn't you just dig the entire underneath of the truck out? I've done that b4 in a 4runner. Just gota dig underneath the center more n would of came right out.
@drivingsports I mentioned it due to your pointing out that he had one on his Bronco. Love the truck though and when I'm done with battling cancer and caught up with the bills, I might trade in my 2 door Bronco for a Ranger Raptor.
I can't figure out why this truck is so disappointing in snow! Tires? Traction control? Driver? Weight bias? I sure wouldn't buy one for where I live in Wyoming! I'm 66yrs old, had countless trucks, and had confidence in all of them in deep snow.
It's always fascinating how Americans are obsessed with cramming more and more power into their trucks. It's like they're preparing for an apocalypse where only horsepower will save them. Do they really need all that power, or is it just to impress their neighbors? Meanwhile, here in Africa, we’re just out here prioritizing food and making do with what we have. You don’t need 700 horsepower to fetch water, after all
I know there is no such thing as a light weight 4x4 for the road anymore, but I'm thinking that a Subaru Brat with Lo range would have driven right on top of the snow conditions you had there.
Ryan, I understand that you are dealing mostly with American audience here, and Americans don't like complex concepts and definitions, but I still suggest that you use more precise terms. For example, for conditions like these you need not "proper winter tires", but "studded winter tires" - winter tires (tires made of a softer compound than all-season and summer ones and with deeper and wider grooves) with studs in them. Modern studded tires have "floating" studs, so they are safe for driving on paved roads (their friction coefficient on asphalt is not significantly worse than that of non-studded tires, and they do not damage asphalt)

The Bronco driver, Eric, snow wheels ever weekend and he used to run KO2’s and switched to the MTs.
I'd like to see something like this with basic stock trucks to see how far they could make it. Just regular f150, chevy an dodge 1500s
