High Flying Evita- From Eva Duarte to Eva Peron

  • Evita's transformation from a dark haired film bit player and model to a radiant blonde radio, motion-picture actress to First Lady of Argentina is pretty impressive. Here is another collage of images showing Eva Duarte's amazing physical transformation into the glamorous Eva Peron. Arguably one of the most fascinating and controversial figures of the 20th century. Idolised by millions as a beautiful, saintly goddess of the people, she is hated and criticized by many as well. I try to show Eva at her most beautiful and not when she was being consumed by the cancer that killed her.
    This collage is set to the beautiful song "High Flying Adored" from the musical Evita (1979 recording).
    Whatever one thinks of Eva Peron, few would disagree with lyricist Tim Rice when he stated "She had style in spades".
    Cheers.

    I will offer my comment now.My parents were both peronistas.As a young boy of 13 yers old my mother and fater took me to the rally of August 22 1951.This impressed me so much that I can still hear the sounds today when I close my eyes.Also there at outside of the house holding a candle with my mother when Eva passed.The days of the funeral are beyond my telling.In all my years since,I have never witnessed anything compaired to that sad period.For all the commenters who down Evita.SHAME

    @EnzFab73 CON: Eva's contribution to her country by giving the poor, children, women & the old a voice in a rich country that did not share its wealth necessary. Medicine, schooling, housing, education, clothes, food & the entry of women in politics had positive outcomes & were achieved on a mass scale neverbefore seen. To blame Eva for the mistakes committed by future leaders that followed is laughable. It takes more than 1 woman to ruin a country. Especially one as rich as Argentina.

  • @evitastories
    @evitastories 16 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd recommend doing some research about Eva Peron. Prior to becoming first lady she was already one of the highest paid radio actresses in the country. When she married Juan Peron, he was wealthy, and so their fortunes were combined. She had enough money to buy what she liked for herself. She didn't rob anyone.
    The people loved her because she worked hard in her foundation, giving health care, food, clothing, and housing to the poor.

  • @evitastories
    @evitastories 16 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In response to this criticism, Evita said, "Look. The poor do not want someone who is dowdy looking to protect them. They want me to dress like this."
    An understanding of South American and Argentine aesthetics is necessary. Women in Latin America are FAMOUS for always being done to the nines. Latin American women, particularly Argentine women, often look like runway models on a daily basis. Nothing less would have been expected for the First Lady of Argentina.

    No one has ever presented any evidence that she stole from the foundation -- despite what the musical says. Unfortunately, people mistake the musical for historical truth.

    @EnzFab73  14 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @GoddessofCoruscant CONT:There is a famous quote from one of her opponents "Had we done for the poor a tiny fraction of what Eva has done. There never would have been a Peron & she still would be a bad actress". That is telling. Had Argentina been better managed PRIOR to 1945, Peron & Evita never would have existed in the political landscape & it's woes were firmly put in place years prior the world knew of a bejewelled blond named Eva Peron.

    You're both right but my original purpose of my Evita videos is to show Eva's style & glamour which was a major factor in her world-wide appeal. Especially during her RAINBOW TOUR, she graced the covers of mags & newspapers world-wide. The US press labelled her "The Dashing Blonde" & the French press labelled her "La Belle Blonde" & to date she is the only South American First Lady to ever make the cover of TIME magazine.

  • @EnzFab73
    @EnzFab73  15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    CONT: It will take more than a biased musical or couple of Anti-Peronist authors & ignorant journalists to destroy the overwhelming achievements of Eva Peron because the actual historical record speaks volumes. Its fascinating that those scholars, historians that have researched Eva Peron for years (in some instances decades) & have evidence to back up their knowledge paint a totally different picture of her.

  • @EnzFab73
    @EnzFab73  15 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree. Joan of Arc was a young girl who fought bravely and was wrongly sentenced to death by idiots. She also faced her horrid death bravely. I do not believe in literal saints and I am not Catholic but this brave young lady deserved to be canonized even if it took 500 years. Totally not on the same level as Guevara IMO.

  • @evitastories
    @evitastories 16 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The people who love(d) her were generally the poor and working class. They love(d) her because Peronist legislation helped them, built schools, homes, cities for the poor, gave free health care (something we don't even have in the US), etc. The opposition was the middle and upper classes. They hated her because a woman of her social background, particularly a former actress, was not supposed to become First Lady. Also, they opposed Peronism for many reasons.

  • @josegasu

    Neither a Saint nor a woman with class....she was smart enought to get involved with an influencial militar who became president of his country twice. She used her attributes very well same as Cleopatra but in a different circumstances...Cleopatra did it because she loved Egypt. Evita did it because of herself. I am so sorry if this comments hurts any argentinian's feelings

    @GoddessofCoruscant Well, it's not just my opinion, I am referring to historians who claim the musical is NOT accurate which I agree wholeheartedly. Also, there was a "class war" PRIOR to the Perons. They did not start this. Just because women & the poor were silent during this senseless exploitation of them during those quiet years doesn't mean a "class was" did not exist.

    CONT: Trying to list Evas charitable works prove difficult because there are simply too many to list. Calling the health inspector to close businesses? You can count using one hand at how many time this happened during the first Peronist period. Even after the fall of Peronism in 1955 when the military government wanted to discredit her foundation & asked those so called victims to come forward guess what? No one did.

  • @Julesb2183
    @Julesb2183 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No, Enzfab, I don't think she hated everyone, but she was bitter towards those in the middle and upper class who she thought had hurt her because she was of a lower class. What I stated was just my opinion. I don't claim to know Eva or know why she did what she did. I think is was more than just hate, though. You can't dismiss what role her charity work played in Juan Peron staying in power. I think that had some to do with it.

    I don't claim to know her or know her thoughts on why she did what she did. My thoughts on her motivations were just my opinion and based on my study of her life. No one can know her full motivations. I do think she knew her charity work was one of the reasons Juan stayed in power. She knew on her deathbed that Juan would have major problems when she died. I don't think she hated everyone, but she did hate those who she thought brought her down because she was lower class.

  • @EnzFab73

    The makers of Evita purposely set out to make Che the narrator to keep the audience from falling under Eva's charms bcoz she was evil. In the biographical text of the brochure of the recent touring production Eva was treated as if she was Stalin with breasts while darling Che's bio was told as if he was Oprah Winfrey. Had Che been a woman he never would have been selected as the narrator, had Eva been a man, the musical never would have seen the light of day. Double standard much?

  • @Julesb2183
    @Julesb2183 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think Che function in the musical is to bring in an opposing view on Peron's regime and to show that Eva didn't really do much - not necessarily to say Che was good but Eva and Peronism was bad (but of course, I don't know Weber's politics, I just assume this because Che never fought against Peron)

    I think the poster is trying to point out that there is a double standard & its a sexist one. Evita never killed anyone as per the evidence yet people & not just Anti-Peronist still compare her to Hitler. She was portrayed as the villian in webber's musical yet Che, a man who killed hundreds was the musical's "hero" & thousands wear his face on T-shirts regardless. Eva may have been ambitious but she dispensed charity to millions=Villian, Che a Communist, killer = Hero. How does that make sense?

    I think you picked the wrong example. Evita is a national hero to most Argentines. Your problem seems to be that there are some people don't consider her a hero. Not everyone considers Che a hero either.

    It's interesting that she wore a lot more make-up in the earlier shots, before she became "a lady". In those days, anything more than lipstick, and a little powder to keep the shine down, was considered slutty. Fashions change as to what is considered beauty.

  • @jwhiteout

  • @Julesb2183
    @Julesb2183 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    yes, she did a whole bunch of charity work, but the way she got the money was dirty. That's the whole point. By the way, if Eva had lived longer, do you think Argentina could have sustained her charity without going bankrupt and forcing more people into poverty?

  • @EnzFab73
    @EnzFab73  15 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Lastly, to say that Eva didn't really do much is quite laughable. Try naming one First Lady from anywhere around the globe that did as much as Evita did in those 6 short years & in a country where she was handicapped from the start. Even before her death she was already being called the most powerful woman on earth (even by the US media) & with good reason. You do not become this potent a symbol, cause military men to shake in their boots (even when you're dead) for simply doing nothing.

  • @EnzFab73
    @EnzFab73  15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    She actually had blonde hair in the picture. That picture was taken around Peron's first inauguration in June 1946. You have to remember that Eva dyed her hair more of a theatrical brassier blonde during her early years, it wasn't until after 1947 that she dyed her hair a paler shade so some photographs of her during 1945-1947 photographed quite dark.

    Well, I would agree that eliud82 was pointing to a doublestandard. However, it was not the same one you pointed out. You are pointing out that both Eva and Guevara depended stereotypes of their genders. Thats fair. However, she was trying to argue that someone it was because of that standard that one was more likely to see Guevara as a hero and Evita as someone who isn't. My critique was that THAT argument was ridiculous, since, in both cases, some people consider them heros and others don't.

    Sorry but I accidently deleted your other comment. Re your statement that Eva hated everyone, well that's just foolish. Did you personally know her? Did those idiots who wrote those vitriolic accounts of Eva that have no basis in fact personally know her? Didnt think so. Noone other than Evita knows what her motivations were & judging by historical record, there was more to her motivation than simply hate. You cannot explain her tremendous charitable works with simply having an axe to grind.
