Written by the great Laura Nyro, who also wrote Eli's Coming that was covered by Three Dog Night, among many others. BST, led by the powerful voice of David Clayton Thomas, were a horn based band that had several hits in the 70s, this as well as You've Made Me So Very Happy and my personal fave Spinning Wheel. Another great group for you to dig into.

Laura Nyro is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Wrote/sang several great songs covered by The 5th Dimension, Three Dog Night and Barbara Streisand.

A+ review. A Master Class. The more philosophy a song is embedded with, the deeper you always go to bring it out and unravel it.
I went to a bar many years ago with some friends, and although we didn't know it ahead of time, it was karaoke night. I was looking through the book and found this song, which I knew. I already had the record and CD long before. (1 beer + 1 beer = me putting in my name.) I am a decent singer, but not an expert one. I figured that I knew the song well enough that I could imitate the singer and get through it. It really takes a lot of energy to sing this song and sound anything like the original. I could see people were enjoying it, but to my great surprise, when the song ended the crowd of maybe fifty people erupted in a thunderous applause. The karaoke guy told me he couldn't remember anyone ever singing it. It's possible many did not know the song by the title, or had never heard it before. I had 15 minutes of fame, and I thought better of singing anything else that night. 🍺🍺🎤

"And When I Die" is a song written by American singer and songwriter Laura Nyro. It was first recorded by the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary in 1966. Nyro released her own version on her debut album More Than a New Discovery in February 1967.
I really prefer her version of the song, especially because she wrote it.

B.S.&T. came out in 1968, a few months before Chicago. Both groups had Horns and great vocals. This song had a HUGE impact on many people's thoughts about the after life. I first suggested this song a while ago, my favorite from them.... "You've Made Me So Very Happy" Great choice, again

Great song! Blood, Sweat & Tears is a jazz-rock music group founded in 1967. They are noted for their combination of brass & rock band instrumentation. Especially love their stuff when David Clayton-Thomas joined as their lead singer. They had a lot of great songs such as "Spinning Wheel", "You've Made Me So Very Happy", "God Bless The Child", "Hi-De-Ho", "Lucretia MacEvil", "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know", "Go Down Gamblin'", "Lisa Listen To Me" etc.

I was into the martial arts since the '60s, and in Bruce Lee's biography that his widow Linda authored in the mid-'70s, she said that this was Bruce's favorite song. She found that ironic since he died so young.

As mentioned written by the incomparable Laura Nyro, David tells a story about how Laura was dating the bass player for the band, one night she brought pizza to practice and asked if David would like to hear some of her songs, sat down at the piano and played this song, Elis Coming, and Stone Soul Picnic, and blew him away

So David Clayton Thomas had one of the most recognizable voices in rock n roll.
Their music was so clearly influenced by southern gospel and blues, their storytelling is hymnal and prose worthy.
While this may be your introduction to B, S and T, I can assure you their sound influenced many other bands, such as Chicago, Yes and The Doobie Brothers.
The great thing about music is that it’s the most enjoyable and entertaining form of education in studying the history of both the human heart and the human condition.
I was blessed to have been raised by parents who thought Blood, Sweat and Tears was as important for all eight children to experience as Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.
That was in 1970, I was around ten and my parents were in their early fifties.
As the product of that parenting thought experiment, I can recommend it. ❤

BST is the only band of the era that one can compare with early Chicago. Both offered a fusion of pop, rock, jazz, gospel, soul, and blues. The Band wasn’t down the fusion path, too, but with some country, roots, and bluegrass tones. BST was truly great-I cannot imagine a band in 2024 even trying to do the music any of these three bands did 50+ years ago.

I don't fear being actually DEAD. Having absolutely No Consciousness, No Awareness, No Vision, No Sounds, No Feelings of any kind physically or emotionally, sounds peaceful and inviting. I was dead before I was alive. The only time I have ever felt any kind of PAIN, was while I am alive. Nothing to fear about Nothing at all. I'd be more afraid of being forced into an eternity I'd rather not be there. Worshipping any entity for eternity is not my idea of a good time. I'd much prefer actually being dead.

There are already angels designated for the constant worship of God they are called Seraphim. I’m not sure what texts you are referencing but if it isn’t the Bible I can’t speak to and it isn’t applicable to Christianity. Catholicism and Christianity are not interchangeable. There are many things that will be done in heaven with worship being one of them. When you are in the presence of the purity, power, and love of God you can’t help but be in awe. I would assume it’s like you going to a concert where Kansas, the Beatles, Supertramp, ZZ Top, Santana and Pink Floyd were headlining lol

Actually doubtless assurance of Everlasting Life is the Guarantee of Jesus to all who believe in Him for that Free & Never Deserving Gift :
    John 3:16 & Ephesians 2:8-9 .
The Real Good News ...little children can easily understand and believe in Him for what He actually Certifies , instantly having irrevocable Life at that moment .
Cuz He cannot lie to the little ones .
