He’s appreciated on a cheap deal and isn’t worth the cuts needed to pay him top dollar. The 1-2 punch is the way to go and there’s no reason to overly rely on any one player… look at it as the RB room rather than the workhorse back that isn’t as valuable in the modern game.

I think Najee is better than Stevenson tbh, 3 consecutive 1,000+ rushing yard seasons with at best a C- oline and a failure of a OC. Them same seasons Stevenson had 606 (21), 1,040 (22), & 619 (23) rushing yards so honestly why isn’t Najee worth the same if not more $… just my opinion, oh and Najee doesn’t fumble either

No doubt that Warren is the more explosive back, but him and Harris have that one two punch that I feel both of them can feed off each other. • @jc6059

My worry with the RB discussion is that i think Najee and Jaylen are just like Zeke and Pollard. Everyone talked about Pollard as being this more "explosive" and "dynamic" RB than Zeke. Then when Pollard was THE guy in Dallas he wasn't nearly as effective. I think Pollard and Jaylen are explosive and dynamic because they play behind bruisers like Zeke and Najee that pound and break up the Def. I like Jaylen a lot. I think he's a mean f'er when he runs, but I dont know if I would make him the feature back.
I think the Steelers should try to keep both. I mean, I wouldn't give Naj more than 3yrs and I certainly wouldn't give him McCaffery money, but I think the Steelers need to at least try and negotiate a deal with Naj. If a deal cant be found then yeah draft his replacement.

This is where the money comes into play. This year will play out and show whether Najee can perform under the different major pressure of having money (at least it's what he feeds the press) on his mind. We haven't heard guys in the same contract situation such as Pat Muth complaining about not having a contract yet.

Love the show dk, but this is a tired episode with no backing. Harris has constantly come through with providing for our pitiful offenses and has been constantly available. Has for his demeanor, other reporters such as Alan Saunders noted he seemed pretty jovial and genuine about staying in Pittsburgh. Hard disagree and the Warren situation could just be like the fans who think Conner could handle Bell’s workload because he averaged like 7 YPC when bell was here, it got way worse after.

I gotta tell you. I am so excited about Russ Wilson. I have a real feeling about him. It would not surprise me to see that man help us to take a run at the SB. He seems so freaking focused. My gut tells me he is looking for a team to retire with. I think he's going to have more than one season in Pittsburgh. Maybe I'm wrong. But I think at this stage of a career, a great QB is looking for a team that can protect him and has a shot at winning the whole thing. I think that means more than money. Poor Ben stuck it out on a very poor team at the end. You might disagree, but I think Ben still had a couple of years left in him IF he was on the right team.

My guess is they meant they weren't sure how Najee would fit into Arthur Smiths zone run scheme. That isn't Najees ideal scheme over the past few seasons. It's a lame excuse IMO, but that has to be what they mean. I think Najee is worth the 5th year option money, but obviously that ship has sailed. He has done all he can do behind flawed Offensive Lines in poor and predictable schemes over his first few seasons.

  • @bjmcalpin

Hey DK, by the Steelers not taking Najee’s fifth year option nor signing him to a contract extension, do you think they will use him as trade capital in the preseason? Waiting to sign him later or let him go after the season doesn’t give the Steelers (and, specifically, I mean Omar) the leverage they are accustomed with when considering trades and contracts. Plus, Najee’s apparel seems to suggest a trade with San Francisco.

Hey DK, hope all is well and appreciate the content as always. We just had the situation with Najee and “future direction”. We also though had Kenny who felt communication was lacking (sure there may be more to this). We have also seen teams like the 49s deal with what seems like a laundry list of sit ins/outs and contract disputes. Then you have the Bears which apparently willing sent Fields to a good situation. Is player communication standards changing? I feel like for owners/NFL bottom line will always come first which would benefit everyone. Thoughts on the overall theme outside the specific Najee situation? Thank you for the show and have a great day!

Najee is a good player. A thousand yards ea h year, and he's still young. There is no reason for us not to pay him a contract ext. Trust and believe, thay if Naj left and Warren was passed the load, he couldn't handle it. Najee is the reason that Warren is shining bc he gets to rest and always be fresh. You see what happened when the cowboys released Zeke, assuming Pollard was the guy. How did that work out for them? Pollard couldn't handle the load. Well, in this picture of Naj, he's showing just how much he respects the Steelers right now. He has a non-Steelers hat on.Let me be clear about Warren, I believe he is a steal, and he is just as good as Naj, but quicker and shifter with good vision. Naj has those tninder legs and can get those tough yards short yards and good at the goal line and can catch passes. So we need them both! Okay, that's my 4 cents 😂

With a JV offensive line and an offensive coordinator that couldn't coach a middle school team. There is absolutely no way that Warren takes the pounding that Najee Harris's body does. Warren is definitely not a goal line short yardage back. He does not and cannot hit the line and carry people. Najee Harris has been a stand up guy on and off the field. Despite Omar Kahn putting in writing that the contract is not intended to prevent the production of his lawsuit. I can't imagine Omar, Tomlin, or Art Rooney are happy about this.

Naaaaah.... we need both Warren and Harris. I think maybe Najee's body language and behavior and possibly the way he's acting around upper mgt and the team now is possibly off-putting once he learned the Steelersweren'tpicking up his 5th year option. I wrote my previous message based on the title of the video, and this is after watching it. Another thing I've noticed is Najee also has a potty mouth. He loves to curse and catches himself at times, saying words that players aren't to say in front of the cameras while being interviewed. I still want Naj and hope we figure out a way to have the 1-2 punch over the next 4 years. Time will tell almost immediately after this season.

A couple drafts to fix OL, a year of growing pains, THEN you draft RB and put the cherry on top. Steelers did this completely bass-ackwards

It’s amazing that Najee was ever even able to rush for 1,000 yds at all with the o-lines he’s been behind come on bruh he’s going to end up going somewhere else probably people act like he came into this already structured o-line and offense I’m a Steelers fan but I shouldn’t have so many concerns about them

If they are willing to pay 30 million to one receiver on the team, why can’t they at least give there running duo 10-15 million each a year! Well worth the money.

Here’s the bottom line on Harris: He’s never missed a game, never failed to reach a 1,000 yards, and has been held back by a bottom 5 line, QB, and OC. The OL coach? He’s a bum too, just ask Kevin Dotson.

Harris is good but not good enough. He was a great college running back because if the middle of the line was plugged up he out ran everyone around the outside. You can’t do that in the pros. In the pros you have to read the blocks and set up blocks. Harris can’t do that. Bell was a perfect example of a patient runner who read and set up blocks. The only reason he didn’t get paid was because he got hurt then he held out. Harris will not fit in this new offense because he can’t read blocks. The only way he will fit is if he is used as a full back in this offense.

We shouldn’t be in a rush to pay Najee but he defiantly ran his ass off injured or healthy. No doubt . We have to see what Edward’s and Warren do . We can’t pay everyone and I understand that

@@drshadowsfilms6059 i definitely get it for sure, but the way he’s back acting is so strange.. even last year. It’s easy to forget the times when you watch him try to run sideline to sideline or just not even run straight through a hole like Jalen. I wouldn’t pay him either if he’s gonna be all crabby. Maybe he balls out this year and gets a contract but I wouldn’t sign anybody on this offense until they prove something honestly lol. And our next RB could be explosive as hell so ya never know.

Hey DK, How can they say that they don't know what direction the team is going to do yet!!! Really!!! Realistically hasn't Mike Tomlin been losing the Team's faith? Especially after the QB debacle last year, having our best QB for winning was sitting right under Mike Tomlin NOSE. And just seems like he's having a hard time keeping certain players here because in Mike Tomlin eyes they are a Prisoner.

3 consecutive 1000 yard seasons is definitely worth 10 million A year and I don’t believe Arthur smith is favoring one over the other the Steelers can move on all they want but there’s no way you’re going to tell me Najee is not worth 10 million which in reality is really chump change for that position

Above average player, seems to be well above average as a human. We’ve all heard it many times: This is a business, just unfortunate “now a days” that RBs are experiencing that business side more than any other position…. They are looked at now as a dime a dozen, I.e., easily replaceable. I hope he lands on his feet and makes some $$$ along the way.

Warren is not better than Najee. If you only have Warren, the NFL defensive Coordinators will figure out how to stop him (easily). Ask Dallas and their running back situations in the past 3 years. You need power over speed in that position. But, we're all tv coaches right?!
