For aesthetic purposes and to make it more "wand-like" I would have gone with a much longer crystal (at least 2-3 times the length of the "handle"). Alternatively, I'd want to extend the handle to look more like a long stick with a crystal tip. The tricky part there would be engineering a small mechanism for accessing the power button, either via a sort of "dowel inside a pipe" set up or some kind of switch/button that levers up to the power button from the outside. That's assuming of course that we don't just cannibalize the back end and relocate the button to the outside of the shaft.
I'd just take the guts out of the blacklight and make my own 'casing' for it. Can't be complex circuitry in there.
that may get tricky with weight, or balance, but I imagine with more time to consider the project, a Cl3ver idea could be had
I looked for longer, skinnier flashlights on Amazon. then build a longer wand from tubing, giving it more of the wizard look. the wand in two pieces to allow access to the battery.
@@goodtobesmall ...or just get one of those USB-C rechargeable flashlights and dress it up.
If you have electronics experience you could actually take the guts out and turn it into an amulet with a Qi charging base, to which you could then add a ring of disguised solar panels so it doesn't have to plug into a wall socket, but this is way too much effort for a minor project. If you are organizing a LARP it might make sense though.
Now make a Staff of Power for our little Raven of Misfortune
Yes, do it! I mean can a wizard really have to many? I think not.
For attaching the crystal to the light, a better option than hot glue would, probably, be UV resin.
I literally made two of these crystal torch things a few weeks ago. I saw one on etsy quite a while back and figured it wouldn't be too hard to recreate.
I used similar crystal molds, and UV resin with some resin inks to change the color of the crystal. I used purple for the first one, but decided it looked better with a blue crystal for my second one. Some leather patch tape around the outside since it already had adhesive and I could cut it to size with scissors or a knife. Turned out alright for very little work.
Had a bunch of mini LED's lying around as well as a few worn drumsticks, drilled through the center of one, inserted an LED and fed the wires down to couple of button cells and the on/off clicker from a small torch recessed into the drumstick, a bit of file work, sand paper and a leather handle wrap, it ended up a bit like the Elder wand.
if you want a great invisible ink, Noodlers blue ghost is invisible when dry but shows up bright under uv/black light
I had a couple different ideas for the wand. 1. Paint it a metallic color; gold, silver, bronze etc. 2. Paint it wood colored. Either way (and you should too) it needs some arcane symbols on it, definitely an eye.
One thing to watch out for with this is that UV specifically makes resin yellow. If you want the crystal yellow, cool, otherwise, a drop or two of blue dye would help offset that for a while. Or color it specifically.
i would be an absolute gremlin with one of these at a larp. i would create a huge elaborate quest for people to do, just to end it in a decipher that ends in a Rick Roll joke and maybe a bag off gummy bears XD
When I worked at an escape room, one of my favorite puzzles used a black light!
The room starts almost entirely dark, with renaissance paintings all over the walls. You’re given a black light and have to find clues in the paintings!
The uses for this mechanic are endless. Great video guys :)
I made a cool wizards staff with a rose quartz crystal on top with a hollowed out compartment on the side for a laser pointer to fit into and it shoots up through a hole I drilled straight down from the top before I glued the crystal on top. So it shines up into the crystal and lights it up. It’s really awesome. I hid the compartment with a rabbit pelt wrapped around and lashed it on with leather. That way you can turn the light on by clicking the button through the fur pelt and no one is the wiser😉😉 also the particular laser pointer I used, does regular laser mode, flashlight mode and black light mode. How fun is that?!?
I made something like this a few years back for my dnd players. I used a cheap plastic magic wand from, I think, Party City. I cut the tip off, stuck in a black light LED, ran wires to the battery in the back and fashioned a little switch at the butt end. Gave it a little weathering and bam! Worked great. Wonder if I still have it

Loved the "hidden" secret. Please do some more! Secret treasure trail through skilltree videos
This s perfect timing. My friend who is a tattooist has just introduced me to UV ink and I’m thinking of some mage based tattoos on my hands. I’ve been thinking about UV light wands and/or wrist bands that can light up the tats.
Although I'm not planning to go to an event at the moment, I think I will do a similar project for a very good friend of mine, because he's always carrying ordinary stuff in his backpack. I think these might need a little pep-up. Also he's interested in magical things, so it won't be so hard to convince him. (yes, he carries a blacklight with him)
Thank you for this inspiring video.
Been watching your videos for quite a while now... Your enthusiasm is contagious. Always a joy to watch!
If it is still available, Noodler's Blueghost ink is great to write in.
Nice and compact design with all the decorations to tie it into the look.
Curious how well it'll work in the field and handle the heat from the light.
I grab a handfuf of those little paper cups from fast food condiment bars. They are perfect for small measures and mini glue/paint projects. Use n toss. Easy clean up.
Thank you for your clear and concise presentation.Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours
This has a very specific aesthetic. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but it's there. I'm getting... 1700s sailor mixed with a little voodoo. I'm fascinated and intrigued.
now add a really special holster to hang this wand from your belt! (I can see a holster with black feathers and the outline of a crow burned or tooled into the leather!)
that would be a good upgrade for my travel staff.
It's not a wizard's wand, but I could use a few improvements for it.
Nicely done, oh Master of the Tree! Love the mechanic and the device!!!
And Congrats to the winners!!!
Your videos are so crafty yet entertaining.
Can you bring back on escaping restraints like for part 3 in more alternative way (mostly behind the back methods)? ❤ Like giving a demonstration or showing us how to break out from gorilla duct tape with hands behind the back, around the arm, legs and tape on the mouth. Also when hands being both duct taped and zip tied together etc. Using other simple objects tools to unlock handcuff etc.
I've heard a (German) podcast a while ago, where they said, that this mechanic and others was developed by some folks on Epic Empires, the third biggest convention in Germany, who were unsatisfied with the state of magic in larp. Really awesome stuff.
Btw.: Couldn't you just cut the baseball-stitch of this video out and reupload it as a three minute piece? The you can direct people to it the next time you use it and it comes up when people search for "baseball stitch".
Awesome project!! And if anyone ever tied his hands, he'd be mute. Lol (Please don't hate me. I adore you and your channel!!!!)
That came out great, thanks
Distracted by your awesome sweater. As a fiber crafter, I want to figure out how to make one! 😂
I made a dagger version of this for a 1-shot back in 2021.
Easily the best prop I have ever made.
Super cool! Getting into LARP myself, going to be able to play with y'all sometime :)
Thanks Skill Tree.
I definitely want to experiment with a simple stadd with an electronic or glowing top. So if yall could do some projects on different ways to make Resin glow or light up that would be super awesome 😊
I have seen a flashlight that can literally change to red and uv light, which would be epic for this project. Just have it change for different "purposes"
Great quick build! Might try and throw one together for my partner... Please make sure to eat, Cl3ver, and thanks for keeping the vids coming during the busy season
Thank you so much for the concern lol! I shall try and get nourishment!
Cool little project.
Pretty sure you can also use lemon juice as the ink for your invisible writing.
oh wow I'm over a week late to this, and this was such a great video! xD
Cool gimic but that sweater looks amazing
When making the knots after the beads could you make another one to tie a feather on the end? Maybe a touch of super glue?
Olight brass warrior mini3 flashlight, selenite tower and some poorly wrapped copper wire... I didn't realize we were dressing up for a costume party around Halloween and had about 35 minutes to do something from random things and scraps of old costumes
What is that sweatshirt? Where did you get it?
Special ink 😉 that only shows up under black light 🤔 I’m sure most episodes of CSI had some of that “ink”
Not going to lie, biggest chuckle I got out of this was the “resident black bird and all around pain on the ass”!!!!
Could do a traveling merchant’s backpack/pack? And show us how to make it?
00:54 secret messages was the last thing i was thinking....
my lady, what ancient alphabet did you use? it lookslike stains on your dress.
#BuildSeguestion I would love to see some wire wrapped jewelry on this channel.
Cool 😀
Are there any natural crystals that are reliably UV-transparent? Resin always ends up looking like... resin.
I haven't done much research in it, But I imagine a very clear one would fit the bill just fine.
I was thinking a drop or two of UV resin to stick the crystal to the flashlight.
i would probably put it on a staff or something but thats just me
Why not pop of an acorn shell on to hide the button?

I tried the password but it says incorrect its skilltree123 right? Or did my dyslexia play up
Just make sure to make it easy accessable to change the battery, becourse the battery will be charged out, sooner or later, that is allways the pet peeve i have about using batterypowered crafts
I'm not sure if Patreon I'm shellnet shellnet411 ore Shelley, Netzer, Edgerton but I never see any of them on the list of patrons, but I have been a patron for a while. I remember right after I signed up you did it and you said something but it wasn't my name it was something with an S i'm gonna have to go look through all your old videos to figure out what the hell you put for me in the patron list I have like three regular names that I use could've also just been Shelley Netzer or Shelley Edgerton I got married I usually hyphenate, but I'll still use my maiden name or married name alone
Hey there! I feel like I remember the name Shelley Edgerton! Sometimes our little scrolling effect goes wonky and we need to rewrite them. Maybe we messed up! Let me know what you WANT it to be and I will make sure you are there for sure
😂
You should end these videos showing off the finished piece a bit more. Please! 🙏

Remember the winter adventure cloak? I would absolutely love to see something else like that but for a desert environment. Things like maybe peg holes in the corners of the cloak to make a cover for items in a sandstorm, and a dust mask, and maybe the cloak itself can unfold into a tent.
Mint idea, I'd also love to see something like this! As someone who lives in a more desert-esque environment it would be much appreciated to see
