As a beginning esthetician I am truly appreciative of this video! This was one of my biggest problems in doing gel nails (all my clients nails would lift/chip)
Hi Margarita, after foundation when needing to smooth ridges or delamination. After colour for added strength. I also removal easier when used over colour coat :)
love your accent.thank u,do u know why my polish always starts to lifts from the nailing 4 days few start , the whole hand states usually just 8 days.thank u
Thanks for your video. Gelish polish have been hard to apply for me. When I do is difficult that the color is homogeneous. Could you please give me any suggestions?. Thanks.
Hi there June. No. Not in this instance. The foundation layer is like the double sided sticky tape between the natural nail and the colour. You don't want to remove the stick (as iso would), just simply remove the EXCESS stick (so you're colour doesnt slide around)
My Top it off cracks on the first day. Crack as if it's a cracked glass or a strand of hair on my nails. They also start chipping off within the first week. I have that exact 18G lamp and the gelish still chips. At first I thought it was my cheap lamp but I just bought this one and it cost me a fortune so I just don't know what I'm doing wrong anymore.
Are you certain you are using Gelish Top It Off (from the soak-off range)? Crackling usually happens when a hard gel is applied over a soft gel. Chipping is also a sign of over-curing. Are you following the cure timing correctly? applying as the video outlines and usual genuine Gelish? You are right. Something is not right in your routine if this is happening for you...
Hello Dear , Can you please advise use of structure gel . I have want to ask you I do exactly same prep and application but my customer saying polish comes off easily like if it chip from one corner they can peel it off whole nail easily. Gelish is good brand I don’t why this is happening. I have tried cuccio gel colour before and same thing peel off easily. Please advise
One of my gelish colours really badly keeps shrinking . I have some everything as per yr video . Could it be I need to do very very thin layers (thinner than usual)
Has it been sitting on the shelf unused? The ingredients inside start to separate and need a roll around every now and then. I always roll all my colours every few weeks and give a gently roll or stir right after the client chooses their colour and allow it to settle again while I continue the service. Also, 2-3 thin layers. The first layer should be quite sheer. Shrinking can also be your foundation layer is too thick or you didn't cap the edge properly or you didn't dry brush. Hope this helps :)
In another gel application video the host said to apply the structure gel after the foundation gel , not after the nail polish gel. Been doing it her way for awhile. Any difference?
After foundation to smooth ridges and imperfections of the natural nail. After colour for extra strength. Its also much easier to soak off when on top of colour than when applied over foundation.
However, if you are using it as a base from which you file off colour and back fill the structure gel, of course it would go after foundation as you are also :)
What a helpful video! Wish I would have watched it sooner !! Just a quick question. I have a janolia 86w led/uv lamp is that good enough for gelish products ? I just ordered the structure gel and ph bond from gelish last week not knowing I need a specific type of lamp! Using modelones color base and top coat now. Wanted to add structure gel to my routine for stronger nails
Amazing video thanks. My nail polish starts peeling after a week if the lamp works fine could it be that the coats are too thick, or that I don't cover all the foundation with the nail polish?
What lind of lamp and wattage do I meed to cure gelish polish?? I'm trying to find a cheaper version on amazon. But there are so many, UV LED and different wattage!
My nail polish peels off whole after just one day 😬 any tips? I’ve followed this routine today so I’ll see how it goes but it isn’t too different to my usual routine, I just wiped away the residue after the foundation and applied the structure gel after colour rather than before
it is very noticeable with the "nude" colors. I don't know why, I have been using it for years and I had never noticed it .. but I noticed that it is transparent, but with violet reflections
Over the years, I had two colours that would change. I had a pink that instantly turned purple wherever top coat was applied. Gelish supplied a replacement as others has complained about the same issue, with the same colour. And a nudey fawn that would fade over three weeks wear. I have found gelish colours to fade with wear more than the other brand I use.
Hi Yoon. Acetone can leave behind a film that inhibits adhesion. While some brands instruct you to use acetone, Gelish doesn't. But yes, isopropyl can be used instead of ph bond.
Hi Jennifer, im so glad you asked and double checked, because NO. not all lamps are the same. And not all lamps will cure all products. Different brands and ranges cure at specific light spectrums amd if your lamp is not correct for the particular range you are using, you can under cure it. Whilst it will LOOK cured, it may actually not be. Which is exposing you or clients to uncured prouduct and could cause irritation, allergies and dermatitis! Do your research! Or but the recommended lamp from your range.
Hi, yes some brands, like Relish, have a sticky residue, even after curing the top coat. Gelish requires you to remove the tacky layer after curing your top coat. Use either the Relish cleanser, or isopropyl alcohol :)
Thanks for your video! I have a gel moment 6 watt led lamp, and I thought I could use it for my gelish polishes, but I'm worried it isn't strong enough, even if I leave my nails under it for longer. I tried leaving them under for two minutes and they didn't dry, but that was before watching this video, so I know I was doing some other things wrong as well. Do you think it can work?
Hi Dana, it's really important that you know and understand that not all lamps will cure all gels. Different brands of gel polish cure at different light spectrums. You MUST have a lamp that matches the spectrum that your polish requires to cure. This is why each brand, has their own lamp, that has been scientifically designed to cure THAT polish. Gel polish also LOOKS cured when only 50% cured. So you may THINK your polish is curing in your cheap lamp, but really it is under cured and could lead to overexposure and dermatitis. A 6W lamp will not cure much at all.... You really must look into the Gelish lamp if using Gelish.
Hello I’m also having this issue but I’m using the gelish mini lamp to cure the polish and it is still not working. Is there anything I can do differently?
May be it's the stickyness on the surface only, and you think it isn't dry... make thin layers and try out a longer time. And never wipe off this sticky part between the layers. Good luck 💅
Hey, I've looked up these lamps, they are very expensive! Do you recommend a "Gelish on the go" lamp? Would that work? My nails aren't curing with the UV lamp I have :( it is a 36W LED lamp
Hi Jorgia, your're right. The Gelish lamps aren't cheap.... but try to stick to using the matching lamp to your brand if you can. If you ARE going to mix and match, be sure you research thoroughly about curing spectrums.
Do gel color polishes need to be wiped with cleanser/alcohol? Or do you just go straight to top coat? I go straight to top coat & its always worked out, I just want to make sure I'm doing it correctly now that im thinking about it lol.
some videos I watch they use the pro bond after the ph bond and before the foundation layer.. how come some people do and some people don't.. does it make the nails last longer? also what are you using to clean the nails?
Pro Bond is a primer and is typically only used for extension services such as acrylic where higher adhesion is required. If you apply pro bond before gel polish, it may help it to last longer BUT, the soak off will take waaaaay longer and be more difficult. It is unnecessary for a gel polish service. If anything, ONLY at the free edge for trouble chippers. I am cleansing with 99% Isopropyl alcohol (or use your polish brands cleanser)
Hi Leksi, you would still need a proper polish base coat after ph Bond before applying colour. Have not tried with peel-off base as this is not something Gelish carry in their range.
Thank you for this video. What brand is your pusher/scraper? Or can you post a link of where to buy that one please? I got one but it’s too sharp and damaging to the nails. Thanks
I tend to bulk purchase pushers on AliExpress. They need replacing more often but I found a shape that I like so continue to order the same. There are many different styles out there and it is totally personal preference.
Hi ! Very useful video but I have a few questions if you dont mind. Is the dry brush actually completely dry or does it have alcohol on ? Also , can you use the gellish foundation , modelones colour and then the gellish top coat ?
Hi! The dry brush is, dry! Certainly no alcohol as you want to keep the tacky layer, just simply remove the excess of it. And yes, gelish does advertise that their base and top are suitable to use with other colour ranges but you will have to ensure correct cure times and suitable lamps for each range is used :)
Hi Stace, I just use a cheap, synthetic brush that I like the shape of. It's wiped with alcohol after each client to remove the tacky layer residue, which is drying for bristles so I'm happy with a cheapie that i can easily replace every few months :) You can also use a gel brush though!
This is absolutely beautiful and I love the color! Where would I be able to buy gelish. I’m afraid to purchase because I’m not sure who sells authentic ones. Thanks for you help :)
Stay a couple of mm away from the cuticle area and sidewalls. It's just practice! You always want your top coat to overlap your colour by about 1mm so keep that in mind :)
As a beginning esthetician I am truly appreciative of this video! This was one of my biggest problems in doing gel nails (all my clients nails would lift/chip)
I love gelish gel polish. i have tried so many different gel polish and I like how thick the top coat is and the colour polish goes on nicely
Thanks for commenting! You may be a 'hybrid' polish gal if you prefer gelish over other brands :)
NailNovice I am a gel tech and just learned about the hybrid gel so I am gonna try it looks like its easy...
I'm in love with your teaching on gelish
Do you have a video showing the removal process of gel polish? x

Hi Margarita, after foundation when needing to smooth ridges or delamination. After colour for added strength. I also removal easier when used over colour coat :)
This was soooo beneficial thank you

Hiya, it is less about the wattage, and what spectrum a polish cures in. Gelish cures at 395nm.
Amazing video thanks. My nail polish starts peeling after a week if the lamp works fine could it be that the coats are too thick, or that I don't cover all the foundation with the nail polish?
Hi Samanta, if it's peeling, then it either hasn't cured properly or, your nail surface was not prepped correctly.
Both can be the reason... make thin coats, and cover exactly
What lind of lamp and wattage do I meed to cure gelish polish?? I'm trying to find a cheaper version on amazon. But there are so many, UV LED and different wattage!
Gelish cures at 395nm (much higher than other brands) So you require a lamp that cures at that wavelength or within a range that includes that.

NailNovice yeah I use the Gelish lamp and polishes
@@nmccu16 I've seen videos explaining why it happens, the most common cause is that it may be under-cured or too many layers.

How much is the structure gel and Gelish “Exhale”
I get a sticky residue when I’m done? What is that and how do I get rid of it

Isn't structure gel supposed to go to the bottom after basecoat
You can absolutely do it both ways. Ive experimented with both and found soak off faster and easier when applied over colour :)
Bond -> 1 base -> 1 hard gel -> 2 color -> 1hard gel - top ?? im vietnamese
dehydrate - foundation - 2 colour - (optional structure gel) - top
how long do you think this application will typically last?
3 weeks is the reccomended time frame give or take how well your clients look after their nails.
This is absolutely beautiful and I love the color! Where would I be able to buy gelish. I’m afraid to purchase because I’m not sure who sells authentic ones. Thanks for you help :)
Stephanie Rivas Try Ulta, Sally or Sephora. I’m sure they would have authentic products.
Check the official gelish website. It should list authorised distributors near you
How do I prevent the polish from peeling off ?
If it is PEELING, it is not cured. Are you using the correct lamp for your polish line?
How do you ensure that no polish goes on the skin?
Stay a couple of mm away from the cuticle area and sidewalls. It's just practice! You always want your top coat to overlap your colour by about 1mm so keep that in mind :)
You could try latex varnish ! It just peels off after you’ve finished painting you’re nails.

I have a uv lamp is it still good?
Gelish does cure in UV. You will need to cure for 2 minutes. But also check the wattage that Gelish suggest as I have only used LED :)
What did u wipe with, alcohol?
Yep, either the brand's cleanser product or, pure isopropyl alcohol :)
Why do you have to brush of the base coat ????
It's called dry wiping. it helps prevent shrinking. it is not a necessary step with all brands. but Gelish requires this :)
What product did you use to clean the nails after you finished?
Thank you!!
The Gelish Top It Off Top Coat still has an inhibition layer after curing. You can use Gelish Cleanse or pure (beauty grade) isopropyl alcohol.
