    Hi coming from Jason’s video. You have an awesome operation! Want take a minute to say, “Welcome home Marine and thank you for your service!” I am a 10 year Vietnam Veteran (1963-1973) and wish I had done something like this when I got out. I am a 100% Disabled by VA and now I sit in a chair and play on my iPad watching various videos and especially those by veterans. Thank you again for your service!

    Great flow of ergonomics. Freezer attached to store. Store and freezer next to main farm access. Also no loud freezer compressors in store, think they are outside? Love board and batten, siding you can make, goes up quick and lasts.

    Coming from Justin Rhodes sharing the Hog Operation I viewed on Saturday evening 8/24/19. Was up until 3a.m. getting to know your family and your passion for FARM BUILDER. Your enthusiasm is SO GREAT! You and Laura deliver such motivational information. Just love your concepts and explanations I want to GET AFTER IT!. I live in Virginia, not far from you in the Valley. Hope to visit the J & L Green Store someday. Love your farm tour for homeschoolers and the patience of delivering a "teaching moment". People will appreciate your insight. OH, by the way, you should see your TH-cam viewers expand. I noted 7,100 when I began my marathon of viewing your offerings. How you doing today (10,100?). Looking forward to MORE.

    Wow, just found you after seeing the vlog Justin Rhodes made. When I saw where you are on the map, I knew just which farm you have. My husband was the Pastor at church on 42, along with the church in Hamburg and Edinburg. Were there almost 14 years. He retired in 2003 and we left the area. Know lots of folks around you. Blessings on your endeavors.

    Really liked seeing this aspect of your operation Jordan! Would be very interested to see and hear it from Laura's perspective as well - hopefully soon. With that amount of inventory what's the oldest product you have on the shelves, time wise? Do you have any figures for what it costs per pound for the cold storage and is that your operation or someone else's? Thanks again - keep up with the terrific content!

    • @FarmBuilder
      @FarmBuilder  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll see if I can get her on. Cold storage is cheap. $30/month per pallet. 1000-1500 lbs can fit on a pallet.

    Wow what a great video, been watching you for several years, I am at the beginning stages of setting up a home delivery service of the farms products, but the big hurdle is the USDA stamp required on all meat sold. Is this the only option? That all the animals sent to usda processor? Struggling with this...thankyou for all your information

      Nandi Saand Good call. I’m not sure if this was the impetus to Jordan and Justin getting together, but Justin featured a visit on his vlog August 24, 2019. He suggested helping get Farm Builder to 10K subs. It’s at 10,660 as I write.

    Good video! So I'm guessing that you haven't found a scanner-based system for inventory control either? I have been looking for MONTHS for one that I can use with my checkout system that will help me digitally manage my inventory. Right now spreadsheets are KING! :) Also, how did you source your walk-in freezers and how do you maintain them?

    • @FarmBuilder

      Our processor is just now starting to implement a barcode system. Something we'll look at in the near future but frankly there's other things I'd rather spend the money on. When controlling distribution and retail it's not necessary to barcode.

      Our Freezer is from this outfit. www.fostercoolers.us/ They've been great to work with and very helpful on any questions or parts. We have a local refrigeration service company maintain the units. They're here 6-8 times a year for one thing or another.

    Your store and channel is outstanding. You can walk and work in that store and feel accomplished at how far you have come! Congratulations! However, at 2:06 I see a problem. Not the great parking area, that is outstanding and the store looks great from the outside. But I don't see a pasture with cows or hogs there. I see a cluster fart of clutter that I see not only on my own homestead but just about every homestead that is too busy producing to give a shite. But appearances matter and you said so yourself inside your great store. But pulling up to your farm, you don't want the first response to be "let's go honey", you want it to be "can we pet the cows, pigs" or "Oh, one day love we will have our own farm...just like this!" So this pot calling the your kettle black suggests that you either screen out the clutter with a fence that has a wrap of your product on pasture, or find another staging area and put a pasture in that paddock. You see it every day, but first impressions are huge and all that clutter could be somewhere else or screened behind something so that when those customers pull up to your door, they will bound in, rather than drag their spouse in behind them. Take it with a grain of salt, my homestead minus the wonderful on homestead store is a clutter F' as well, but I want the best for you as I have gotten a lot of great tips from your channel and I thank you for your service. Think of it this way, if you have to crop out the clutter for that social media image, do something about it. Make your farm store picture perfect. You can do it! As I can see you worked hard to put it up and keep it rolling!

    how long does product last in cold storage on average and therefore what is the risk of loosing equity in out of date product? This is what really scares me in running my own store

    I’m just getting started and considering buying 30 acres. The property is on a heavily trafficked state road with 2,400 feet road frontage. I want to have a farm store and my question is: is the fact that the store will be right on a main road a huge advantage? It is a rural area with nothing else around except a gas station about 2 miles away.

    Do you have to make a separate corporation for your retail store? Trying to figure out what kind of licensing is needed and do you have to get a public health certificate?

    • @FarmBuilder
      @FarmBuilder  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the same LLC. Licensing is state specific but here in Virginia it falls under the state department of Ag.

    Hey Jordan, awesome farm store! I am looking to eventually have a farm store on our property and was wondering if this is still considered direct to customer marketing and not considered “retail”. Mainly ask this in regards to Exempt P.L. 90-492. We currently only do broilers and eggs but would like to sell pork and beef. You mentioned direct to retail so I was just wanting some clarification. Thanks!

    • @FarmBuilder
      @FarmBuilder  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will mostly depend on your state regs. I'd check with your department of ag.

    Your son age is about 10 times too small. On your sign in the yard the biggest thing on that sign should be the name of your store and you should be able to read it from at least 30 feet away. The sign above your store should be as wide as your awning and about 6 ft tall. Again so the words Farm Store can clearly be seen from the street. You'll get more Drive in traffic and people will have a better time finding you.

    probably a silly question but is it common to buy frozen meat in America? As I have never seen frozen meat sold in Australia but have frozen near use by dated and it never has a nice taste even mince is fresh. As a store farm it would be extremely hard to keep fresh and if it was frozen I dont know if people would want to buy it.

    • @FarmBuilder
      @FarmBuilder  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! Yes, it's very common for meats to be purchased frozen here.

    • @lyricderbin1169
      @lyricderbin1169 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Theres a difference though. You say you freeze once it close to its use by date, here everything is frozen immediately. It does make a huge difference how long it goes before being frozen
