Both Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy on the drums here are huge fans of the Beatles, Beach Boys etc as well as Yes, Genesis, ELP and Deep Purple. The album this comes from is "The Similitude of a Dream" - definitely my favourite album of the past 10 years. Check out the official videos for "City of Destruction", "Makes No Sense", "The Man In The Iron Cage", or from other albums "The Great Adventure", "Momentum" or "The Neal Morse Band - The Call Live In Mannheim".
Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy formed a super group Beatles cover band called Yellow Matter Custard with Paul Gilbert on guitar. Check them out when you get a chance.
Omg 😆 great reaction! This band is so amazing! No one can write progressive rock/metal like Neal Morse. The drummer is Mike Portnoy ex Dream Theater...and he and Neal Morse are in like three bands together. Check out Spock’s Beard and Transatlantic too also with Neal Morse. What a surprise! Thx so much guys 😎
What a surprise know you are reacting to NMB, they're just really good musicians join together from another bands and they're really amazing on their instruments, also switching between them. This song is from an conceptual full album, I recommend you to react to more songs from this one. Great chose.
One of, if not my favorite bands. When you have 4 hours to kill (no really… 4 hours) listen to the 2 album epic that this song is a part of… “The Similitude of a Dream” and “The Great Adventure”. Both albums loosely based on a book called “A Pilgrims Progress”.
Beatles. Neal has a group called Yellow Matter Custard which is a cover band for Beatles songs. Try Neal when he was in Spocks Beard. The album "V" (5) And if you like the voices Neal Morse - Waterfall and maybe Julia with Ross Jennings. Then go to Ross Jennings and Arjen Lucassen, The Prescient
Its a bummer that few people get into this band. I can't see what is so 'uncool' about serving the KING of the entire WORLD and singing songs about him. The last two albums by this band might be some of the best music to come out in a decade. Don't miss out.
Just to let u know the drummer is a former member, co founder of dream theater i should say, thats why they are great the lead singer also plays a john petrucci 7 string guitar which is the guitarist of dream theater, so dream theater is an influence o. This band
Drummer Mike Portnoy is from Dream Theater originally as well as Transatlantic, Flying Colors, Neal Morse, Morse/Portnoy/George & Neal Morse Band with guitarist, singer Neal Morse. Portnoy has also been in Winery Dogs, Sons Of Apollo, Adrenaline Mob, Avenged Sevenfold, Liquid Tension Experiment, BigElf, OSI, John Petrucci, BPMD, Metal Allegiance and recorded a live album cd / dvd with Twisted Sister. Neal Morse was originally in Spock's Beard.
Beatles influence -- drummer Mike Portnoy & guitarist, singer Neal Morse are Beatles fanatics and even have a Beatles tribute band called Yellow Matter Custard -- which are part of the lyrics in I Am The Walrus by the Beatles. They recorded 2 live cds and 2 live dvds as Yellow Matter Custard.
Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy are actually huge Beatles Fans, so the Influence may shine Through. The Band is very Fun live all very talented Musicians. My favorite Song of them is the Call, one of the best prog Epics ever, can’t help but tearing up during the final Refrain, so freakin beautiful, highly recommend listen!
Lead Guitarist principal singer (on this one, Neal the boss) is ERIC GILLETTE. Musical genius on Guitar, Keys, Drums, vocals. Check out his own channel folks.
Couple of comments: Neal Morse, Randy George, and Mike Portnoy have put together three albums worth of cover tunes. Really amazing stuff. Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy are also in Flying Colors together...and they too have put out some pretty amazing music. And while I'm at it, Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy are also in Transatlantic together. Yep, more amazing music. Relative to the Beatles, two things. First, yeah. You'll find a lot of Beatles-esque music when Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy get together. It's pretty spectacular. Second, you should check out the "name that tune" battles that Neal and Mike have had...nothing but Beatles tunes...and it's amazing how quickly they can name various tunes. And while I'm at it, you should check out Mike's "name that tune" contest with his daughter Melody. Hint: he doesn't win.
Transatlantic is the best prog rock super group! The musicianship is, of course, amazing but the song writing is stellar. "S.M.P.T.e." is one of my favorite albums all time.
First of all, this is a Dream Team. Neal Morse sang on Matt Smith's Project Aegis song "The Rest is Mystery" you reviewed. Secondly, You love the drummer? That's because you're beholding Mike Portnoy, formally from Dream Theater. after the Death of Neil Peart from Rush, HE'S IT BABY! He is one of the greatest Rock Drummers out there.
So funny XD Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy are both extreme Beatles-fans. The young guy singing and playing guitar is Eric Gillette, you should really check out his youtube page! He's done some amazing videos by himself.
Not the best way to listen to this song, cause it’s a part of a 2 hours epic. The whole album is one long story, and there are lots of references to other parts of the album. Besides, have you noticed that the drummer is Mike Portnoy, former Dream Theater drummer ?
More importantly it's part of a 4 Hour epic spanning four CDs with the completion of the trilogy to be out hopefully within the next few years. Considering their next album that comes out in April is a standalone double CD. But remember, this was one of the singles to introduce this album. And if you listen , many of these songs can be stand alone but tell a greater part of the story when listened together. Portnoy and Neal have created the best music within the past couple of decades. They're like a hand in a glove, but even greater when you add the other three members of the Neal Morse band you have a force that surpasses phenomenon.
There's a reason why I chose this specific single over all others. I think that it introduces the band as a whole and shows their talents, their fun side and their amazing ability to be one tight unit. You have three of the four vocalist together on this one song. That's why I chose this song because I think it's a great introduction to introducing someone to the Neal Morse band.
I'd love to listen to NMB but Neal has decided to not put his music on Spotify and I'm not going to bother with a completely different platform or format for just one band. I may still buy some CDs, but that doesn't mean I actually listen to them in that format. It's a shame because I'm pretty sure I'd really enjoy a lot of their music, just like this one.
He's added a lot of stuff to Spotify lately - check it out again if you haven't for a while. His latest album "Sola Gratia" plus a lot of classic tracks including this one, "The Door" etc.
When Neal Morse's music streaming platform came out, I felt the same way. But it is actually so much more than just Neal Morse's. And for only $6 a month you get pretty much everything that he's ever been involved in and much more. Including all of Eric gillette's catalog as well as the others. He also keeps adding demos and things that you would never find anywhere else. And he is even adding the Inner Circle stuff as well. I have put a bug in his ear to add video to that streaming platform. We will see what he will do! LOL! Needless to say, I do definitely think that his music streaming platform is worth what it costs per month. Not only that, but their new album that comes out in April will be released exclusively as an early release to that platform!
Its THE GOSPEL! THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST, and the song is part of John Bunyans "Pilgrims Progress" put to music and in order to fully appreciate this music you MUST read and understand this book...Pilgrims Progress. Be well, and God Bless!
I have seen Neal Morse in concert twice and it's absolutely amazing. All of the musicians are masters of their craft!
I've seen him maybe four times including with Spock's Beard way back in 1999. Aside from SB one time with Transatlantic and two times with NMB.
Both Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy on the drums here are huge fans of the Beatles, Beach Boys etc as well as Yes, Genesis, ELP and Deep Purple. The new troika album is also so good. I’m 15 and by far the most creative and genius artist I’ve ever seen is neal Morse
Anything Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy do together is 10/10.
You realize that’s ex- Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy on drums. Great all around band. Check out another Mike Portnoy band Flying Colors.
Love Flying Colors!
And of course Transatlantic.
Your next Neal Morse Band masterpiece should be "The Call". Then do "The Ways of the Fool". Your life will never be the same again.
Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy formed a super group Beatles cover band called Yellow Matter Custard with Paul Gilbert on guitar. Check them out when you get a chance.
Mike Portnoy ex-drummer and ex-leader of the band Dream Theater. You guys are the Best. Don't change anything. True and Pure reactions.
Saw them live 5 or 6 times. They are simply amazing. You should also try Transatlantic, with Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy, similar.
Yes they do a live thing where they swap instruments, a couple of times I think.
Amazing talent.
@@NathanEllery Live from Mannahein, ALIVE AGAIN, 35 mins half way through they start mucking about awesomely!
Try The Door by Neal Morse. A 30 minutes epic.
There was a Spock's Beard song called the Doorway that was really great too but "only" about 12 minutes long.
One of, if not my favorite bands. When you have 4 hours to kill (no really… 4 hours) listen to the 2 album epic that this song is a part of… “The Similitude of a Dream” and “The Great Adventure”. Both albums loosely based on a book called “A Pilgrims Progress”.
Great band and great live band. Seen them live a few times and they nailed it evey time.
A stunning band, try the great despair by them or the grand experiment, more people need to hear this amazing band
Great band and great song

I would say that The Similitude of a Dream is probably my favorite album in the last decade, just brilliant.
Just to let u know the drummer is a former member, co founder of dream theater i should say, thats why they are great the lead singer also plays a john petrucci 7 string guitar which is the guitarist of dream theater, so dream theater is an influence o. This band
Welcome to the 5 best musicians on the planet youve never heard of!
There's no more talent packed into one band as there is in the NMB. They're just as great, even more so live.
Drummer Mike Portnoy is from Dream Theater originally as well as Transatlantic, Flying Colors, Neal Morse, Morse/Portnoy/George & Neal Morse Band with guitarist, singer Neal Morse. Yes! And you can search TH-cam and find their "name that Beetle tune" segments that they used to do!
I watch this reaction everyday. I love watching your excitement and surprise.
Please, The Neal Morse Band - The Great Medley
This medley so epic!!
This band is Amazing.
Check "Question Mark" album, is a masterpiece.
Lead Guitarist principal singer (on this one, Neal the boss) is ERIC GILLETTE. Musical genius on Guitar, Keys, Drums, vocals. Check out his own channel folks.
I'll be getting some Neil Morse Band music this weekend. I need more also.
They are great I’ve seen em live.
The drummer is Mije Portnoy from dream theater
Great reaction!
Guy who has only seen The Boss Baby, watching his second movie:
Getting a lot of "Boss Baby" vibes from this..

Definitely both Beatles and Beach Boys influence. 🔥🔥🔥

Both, with a twist of Genesis and Yes.
You saw the Drummer in your liquid tension experiment reaction too
You want to hear Beach Boys influence, go listen to The Ways of a Fool from the same album this song came from.
One more request for "In The Fire" by the Neal Morse Band from Morsefest 2015.
So funny XD Neal Morse and Mike Portnoy are both extreme Beatles-fans. The young guy singing and playing guitar is Eric Gillette, you should really check out his youtube page! He's done some amazing videos by himself.
They sound like SPOCK'S BEARD
Probably the Beatles. Neal Morse has another band called Yellow Matter Custard, and they do covers of Beatles songs. Good catch there.
Great prog rock band
Nice! I'm hearing some Kansas in there.
😱👍👏👏👏👏👏👏❤
Cool , I see they got Mike Portnoy on drums from Dream Theater 👍
Do "alive again" PLEASE! or "welcome to the world 2" is good too
I totally hear Carry On Wayward Son from Kansas out of their sound.

Listen Infinite Fire or Open Up Your Eyes by FLYNG COLORS.
Please, neal morse - jesus the Exorcist - Episode 14
