    I recently bought an Alan Brevier Clarendon 7C, and it has basically become my go-to bible for everything... the cyclopedic concordance in the back has awesome info/charts when I feel like digging in, and its size makes it super portable.
    I had been using an ESV Pitt Minion for a while, but I found that if I read it for any length of time my eyes would hurt, so I decided it was time for a change. The Brevier Clarendon 7C has a bold 9pt(I believe) font and is super readable.
    The only thing I was worried about was that it only came in the KJV... in the beginning it was a bit difficult, but as time has gone on, I'm really enjoying the classical language. It is also a cool feeling knowing that this same exact translation that guys like Jonathan Edwards and Charles Spurgeon read and preached from.
    Thanks for posting the video!

    As with you, these particular Bibles are not my go to EDC, but they each represent a layout and footprint that to me are excellent for carry. They are a perfect size to to font ratio. For an expensive EDC Bible my vote is Schuyler Treveris ESV all the way! It’s the Goldilocks size at 8.5” x 5.5” and it’s got a full yapp. Wonderful goatskin cover and paper to feel and it’s just perfect to read from one handed 😁

    • @artistocracy
      @artistocracy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have the Treveris in KJV (firebrick red w/ blue under silver) and it has been my favourite ever since I got it well over a year ago. It's slim, it's lightweight and it feels wonderful in the hand, and the text is great. I think that if one has several reference bibles, as I do, a dedicated reader fits the bill. I would that more bible makers go for this size!

      @@artistocracy have you tried the newer Humble Lambs yet? They’re a lot nicer than when they first started up. I got my new KJV Lion already from them and it’s absolutely gorgeous, but I’m still waiting on my two new NKJV Shepherd pre-orders that are supposed to ship next month. I got the Yellow and Purple on the NKJV, couldn’t help myself with those beautiful colors on offer haha 😆
      I’d recommend snagging one of their nicer NKJV’s before they sell out if that’s your favorite edition too.
      Btw, I really love the Textus Receptus tradition too, but I’ve found you actually will learn a ton if you read the translations in multiple editions to see what different teams of translators chose for their rendering of each verse.
      I’ve heard many times that there’s “6,000 changes” to the critical text by several KJV Only people, but I would humbly invite you to verify that for yourself because you’re gonna find out they’re almost all just different translations of the same exact verse rendered differently but all in all meaning the same exact thing. There are indeed some actual changes too, I’m not denying those, and I’ve never done an official count on them, but on the legitimate “changes” what we are really talking about is things that later Greek copies of the texts in the 600’s and 700’s and 800’s and 900’s added to the text itself. Because those verses aren’t in the texts from the 200’s until the 600’s texts. So these are actually removals from the text based on added texts in the later documents.
      So, am I saying throw the NKJV and KJV tradition away? Actually no, those are two of my favorite editions of the Bible. In fact I almost can’t in my heart not end the Lord’s Prayer with “For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, for ever, amen” even though this is a clear addition to the text that happened later. In my heart I feel actually all the additions I’ve noted in the textus receptus tradition texts like the KJV and NKJV are Holy Spirit inspired. I can’t prove that and I’m not stalking my overall theology on that statement, but it’s what I feel upon reading what they actually say.
      Now the other reason I recommend newer editions to read too is what is called “Holy Ghost Greek”. Very few KJV/NKJV people know this but there’s over 500 words in the KJV translation that were pure guesses by the translation committees. This practice of guessing the word meanings was called “Holy Ghost Greek”. The reason they didn’t know these words was because they were translating using Ancient Greek and did not understand that the New Testament was written in Koine. This was true for all reformation age Bibles so it’s not just a KJV situation. Today we have only about 50 words left in Holy Ghost Greek in the editions like the ESV2016 and CSB 2020 and NASB1995 etcetera. Food for thought my sibling in Christ 😉
      Anyways, I think you might be shocked at the helpfulness of a CSB, NLT, NASB, and ESV in your collection just to read some of the verses back to back. You’ll find yourself having a deeper understanding of the common texts which is really 99.99% of the text they all share. So you might actually love yourself one of those ESV Treveris too! 😉
      On a side note I also own an NLT Caxton from Schuyler and it’s ever so slightly smaller by about 1/4” width and height than the Treveris except 1/4” thicker because it’s a single column with references edition. Another great single hand holding Bible from Schuyler! 🙌🏼
      GOD Bless 😁🙏🏼

    The Concord is my favorite carry Bible. Mine is pretty old; I think it is the first high quality binding Bible I bought. There is, from Cambridge a wide margin version that's a very good study bible and the text block looks to be identical, there are just very wide margins for notes. So it's easy to get back and forth between the two.

    I love the ESV Personal Reference Bible by Crossway. It's hand size so it's very portable. It has a very readable 8pt font. My favorite feature is that it is single column. • @pastornickmcrae
    @pastornickmcrae 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    NIV Comfort Print Thinline from Zondervan is an outstanding cheap EDC Bible from Zondervan. Perfect size, sturdy, nice and floppy. The Allan NIV1 is a good premium EDC option in NIV. Not as thin as the Zondervan Thinline, but it is as thin as a lot of thinlines (for instance, it's about the same size as that NASB2020 Thinline from Zondervan) and it is a reference Bible, which is nice. The Schuyler PSQ in NIV is another great premium EDC in NIV because it's small (if a little thick) but extremely readable and also has a good reference system. It's my preaching Bible. For ESV, it's really hard to beat any of the ESV Thinline Bibles from Crossway. I have the TruTone, Buffalo Leather, and Top Grain leather editions, and honestly I think the buffalo is better than the top grain even though the buffalo is paste-down and the top grain is edge-lined. The Bible I used as my EDC for years was the now out-of-print full-size NRSV Go-Anywhere Thinline Bible from Harper Bibles. It's truly an astonishingly good Bible. It's slightly taller and wider then most normal-sized Bibles called "thinline" but it's impossibly thin, the thinnest full Bible I own, and it's got a large, readable font, a sewn binding (though it's one of the least pretty fake leather covers out there), it lays beautifully flat after minimal breaking in, it was line-matched before line-matching was cool, and even though it only has three maps, they're on regular Bible paper which I know some folks love. I'll take it any day over any of the new NRSV thinlines from Zondervan. I don't use NRSV as my primary translation anymore (using NIV and NASB2020 instead), but I'll always be impressed by the full-size Go-Anywhere Thinline. I mean, seriously, why can no one else make a Bible THAT thin?

  • @dude93able
    @dude93able 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have a Reformation Study Bible Condensed that's the size you like, and it might be thinner than the CSB you mentioned. Anyway its footprine is 8.25 x 5.25. You might not like the 8 point print or the references and study notes for everyday carry. I do hope you check it out anyway as for those like me who like a very carryable study bible.
    1 more thing, I beleive it's a lot thinner than the ESV Compact Study Bible so much easier to carry.

    Great channel My EDC is an ESV Thinline Genuine leather and so far I can't find anything to beat it. Paper is not too thin for me, but I don't write in it and no references. I bought a Clarion Calfsplit off amazon for a decent price but the text ran into the gutter, the calfsplit felt like plastic and it was jut a bit too thick. Sent it back because I knew it wouldn't push that thinline out of my EDC. The search continues!
