I've bought fake fragrances from some eBay sellers with almost 99% positive customer ratings, and the most shocking experience of them all...one of them sent me a used-up, empty bottle of Dior Homme Parfum inside a sealed box a few years ago. Yes, it's a true story, which remains literally a traumatic fragrance-buying experience for me to this day.

I took it back and showed them the difference. They are used to selling to people who don't know, or don't care!
gonna just put it out there that to only buy chanel from certified dealers (macy's, sephora, chanel's site iteself) the bleu de chanel parfums are nearly impossible to tell reals from fakes and those were what got me (even experienced perfumers had the hardest time picking out the difference until it came to the sent and longevity) thanks for putting this out there ash

Fake perfume manufacturers are getting more sophisticated these days. You really need to go into details to spot the differences. If you don't have another genuine bottle to compare, it's honestly much harder to tell.
I've seen Apple Brandy New York exclusive being sold by these sites. The original Apple brandy has been out of stock for years, but they've got dozens of bottles being sold for under the original retail price 😅.
Gents Scents x Michael Malul Blue Ridge, Valentino Born in Roma Coral Fantasy, Armani Code (Better if Absolute) and if you have the money, Parfumes de Marley Haltane 👌
I never understood why anyone would go through the trouble of mass manufacturing a counterfeit but not at the very least pay attention to even the largest details like packaging colors, spelling, label details, etc. It's not like the counterfeiter can't get their hands on an example, run it by the team doing the production, quality check the proto before doing a run of them. Certainly this is not an endorsement of such behavior, but it just boggles my mind.
The spelling is because the counterfeiters don't know English. It's a game to make the cheapest possible dupe but have it look real enough to scam online buyers. Sell the stock, cut and run before anyone investigates. Of course I do ask the same question about English speakers when they pay 10 grand to put up a billboard with a mispelling, or someone spends 2 hours making a photoshop and doesn't bother to read the 10 words they put in a caption.

I don’t even take a chance with “discounters”, I just buy directly from the manufacturer. Sure you’ll pay a little more but you’ll have a peace of mind and they’ll most of the time send you a lot of samples.

Its great to draw attention to things like this however man is this gonna start a storm. Its part of the game, live and learn. Anywho thanks for videos giving necessary information like this Ash. If your new to the game, do some homework. Some amazon sellers sell fake fragrances i bought BDC EDT it was very watered down and lasted 15 minutes it was 120$ and looked real it's the first BDC EDT that shows up it had 2500 reviews but it was fake
Well, none of the Bleu de Chanel lasted long on me. But yeah, Chanel could only be bought on big names retail stores. The procedure of distribution is kinda different than other brands
last time I saw lots if adds selling mini fragrances Versace - De Hermis - and other designer brands and I came with a question, why designers make 5ML bottles? and are they fake?
The thing that bugs me about jomashop, and why I've never purchased from them before, is because pretty regularly, they will have the exact same fragrance in the exact same size with the same header description, but at two different prices. What's up with that? I've noticed sometimes in the header description, one will be followed with (m). Can anyone elaborate?
I got spooked because I grabbed an opened tester bottle of Red Tobacco from a Mercari seller and it didn't smell like I remembered. It also had the batch number ground off. It turned out it was real when I compared it to a new bottle. I guess what I'm saying is Mancera testers look terrible. I also got a Montale from Fragrancenet and the goofy hairspray bottle came without the atomizer. Still waiting on a replacement.
I’ve bought Manceras from Fragrancenet with the batch codes etched out. It’s done by the distributors to avoid tracing the bottles back to them. What I don’t like about that practice is that the boxes have to be opened and re-sealed.
@@shave-a-thon3415 I was wondering about that. It's hard to find clear pictures of the bottom of bottles online. The letter alignment on the plates is off too. When I first tested it I smelled cherry and said "Wait a second, this wasn't what it smelled like last week." Testing them both at the same time on different hands, and yep, my mind just blocked that out and zeroed in on the tobacco when I first sampled it. I don't feel bad about paying below $80 if they just open up the testers and modify them anyway.
@@vishg5148 Not necessarily so. I ended up being sold a fake bottle of Kajal Lamar in March. The bottle had a bad atomizer which led me to contact Jomashop’s customer service. I sent all of the photos they asked for and never got contacted by them again. So, I contacted Kajal and sent them photos of the bottle I have and they informed me I was sold a fake. Kajal also informed me that Jomashop is not an authorized retailer for their products. So, there you have it my friend.
@@ejstar8917 grey market websites are not authorized retailers, that’s the reason why you can get them for cheaper. If you ever buy from a gray market place and contact the brand they’ll obviously tell you that you got a fake, because that particular website shouldn’t have access to selling their products, it doesn’t matter if everything checks out to be real they’ll tell you it’s a fake no matter what
@@Max_RiosC Not necessarily so. If it checked out, Kajal would’ve definitely said so. But, after pointing out what made my bottle a fake, I checked it against another Kajal fragrance I bought from Maxaroma (an authorized Kajal retailer). The one from Maxaroma checked out as an authentic fragrance. The one from Jomashop did not check out an authentic fragrance. The bottom line is, if you are buying from a gray market retailer, buyer beware. I feel like Jomashop is doing a disservice to customers y advertising that their products are 100% authentic is all I’m saying. And I have chosen to no longer do business with them. If others continue to do business with Jomashop, more power to them. But, do so with caution.
Sadly no. Was released in 2015. 10ml sample spray , 75ml and now they’ve released a 200ml bottle. As far as I am aware Memo have never had 100ml bottles 😢
I bought D&G The One EDP on Fragrancenet and it's super powdery and I believe it is fake. I've only used the EDT and heard the EDP is similar and the one (no pun) I got doesn't smell like the EDT at all. There were also scratches on the glass and it was a completely sealed box so Idk
I guess my problem with this PSA is that it informs both consumers and fakers. It might also get the latter needed information to upgrade their presentation thereby making it more difficult to spot differences physically that the scent is the only way to do so but by then youve also been fooled. Just saying.
Think of it: fakers can afford to buy the real deal and copy. The differences are due to tech difficulties or higher price in production they did not want to afford to make margins higher. These videos only help consumers
I wish that someone would weigh a box of unopened, authentic perfumes and post the weights. I don’t see how fake ones could duplicate down to the grams exactly. The weight of the cap would be off, the box, etc.
Listen up to me. I know a lot of people that work in drugstores who steal fragrances and sell them privately. So did a friend of my neighbour for years. Mostly fragrances that were damaged and couldn’t be sold or simply stolen from the warehouse so that nobody could find out. And also they were sold for cheap prices on eBay but being legit
@@fishfan2 They're cheap at discounters but not from authorized sellers. Secondly, if it costs a few bucks to counterfeit a bottle, and you can sell tens of thousands wholesale for $12 a bottle or more, explain where else you can make 500% on your investment in a month. That's why there were so many used and repackaged bottles of Armaf CdNI Men floating around a few years ago.
@@fishfan2 That's because they bought it at a heavy discount - probably $10 wholesale from a distributor which would be the wholesale cost of a counterfeit bottle. Once again, if you can manufacture tens of thousands for $2 and sell it for $10, multiply that by the 40 other cheapies they counterfeit, and the profit is in the millions.

I've only bought from Jomashop, Fragrencenet, Fragrencebuy, and Splitscent so far in my short fragrence journey.
Hopefully none of these are too bad.
You’ve been ripped off
Those are all legit, don’t listen to this clown show in the comments
I have a bottle of Memo Paris I was curiouse about. Did African leather come out in 3.4 oz bottles in 2015? 15:56
Sadly no. Was released in 2015. 10ml sample spray , 75ml and now they’ve released a 200ml bottle. As far as I am aware Memo have never had 100ml bottles 😢
@@WhoCares69 I just didn't want to mark a company in the US by selling frauds unless I knew for sure
When you look the code up it shows Valid
AL16076
@@jeremyhoward5168 They can simply replicate on the fake a code they saw in an original bottle. Hence a valid code guarantees nothing.
Thanks Ash
I bought D&G The One EDP on Fragrancenet and it's super powdery and I believe it is fake. I've only used the EDT and heard the EDP is similar and the one (no pun) I got doesn't smell like the EDT at all. There were also scratches on the glass and it was a completely sealed box so Idk
Your bottle isn't fake, the edt and edp definitely smell different. Fragancenet is one of the discounters that you trust.
@@fishfan2 Fair enough I'll take your word for it. I guess the EDP isn't for me then.
@@xMaRVeL39 A decent amount of people prefer the edt over edp based on scent. The edp performs way better tho so people recommend it more.
Mancera Silver Blue smells very similar to black phantom by Kilian
I guess my problem with this PSA is that it informs both consumers and fakers. It might also get the latter needed information to upgrade their presentation thereby making it more difficult to spot differences physically that the scent is the only way to do so but by then youve also been fooled. Just saying.
Think of it: fakers can afford to buy the real deal and copy. The differences are due to tech difficulties or higher price in production they did not want to afford to make margins higher. These videos only help consumers
What about the fragrance outlet stores?
I wish that someone would weigh a box of unopened, authentic perfumes and post the weights. I don’t see how fake ones could duplicate down to the grams exactly. The weight of the cap would be off, the box, etc.
Jomashop has bad customer service and their shipping is falsely advertising. Especially when I live in New York.
In JFK INTERNATIONAL SHOPPES ARE THERE FRAGRANCES LEGIT? YOUR THE BEST!!
Search Google. You'll find that Coty sued CVS years ago for selling counterfeit bottles of Davidoff fragrances.
@@shave-a-thon3415 😭who would make fake Davidoff fragances 😂 they're already cheap
@@shave-a-thon3415 Nah bro Coolwater be like 20 bucks at Ross 😂
@@fishfan2 That's because they bought it at a heavy discount - probably $10 wholesale from a distributor which would be the wholesale cost of a counterfeit bottle. Once again, if you can manufacture tens of thousands for $2 and sell it for $10, multiply that by the 40 other cheapies they counterfeit, and the profit is in the millions.
