Yup, which is why you have to keep upgrading your offenses, hence the turrets. I usually put out many turrets, and aim to get either the solenoid or the particle accelerator to rapid fire the turrets. You can't end the game until you kill the dream hunter, and your defenses cannot stay long forever. It would be dumb if the game loops to the point where the dream hunter cannot destroy your door, ever. The game has to end one way or another.

For me, I upgrade the bed first, then I upgrade the door, ones I have the 8 coins bed, I will start placing 7-9 turrets and upgrade them at the same time and same level, then I upgrade the bed a little and boom, I beated the purgatory lV (sorry if I spell it wrong) and I won like a lot of times.
Bad strategy. Don't upgrade turrets before 400, don't even buy. After 400, place 2 consoles so they give 4 lighting. You can then make turrets and place mines(Use 128 ones at start)
