    Titanium is so great, you forget the you have a watch on your wrist. I don’t understand why so many need a hefty watch. In fact my Sinn is much too heavy and I find it rather annoying

    • @StandardTime

      There’s definitely a place for titanium, just not for me. I love the heft. I like that constant reminder of the watch. I can understand the opposite too though!

      This is how people are "programmed".
      Premium car manufacturers had to add an option for artificial engine noise to their EV cars because people have been conditioned into thinking noisy engine means more power.
      Same with vacuum cleaners. Manufacturers COULD make them more quiet but double blind test reported that people prefer the noisier model because they are perceived as more powerful and better at cleaning!
      When I picked up my SBGA241 (it's basically the Snowflake with black dial) next to a SBGE211, I was immediately sold on the Titanium because I KNOW for a fact that Titanium IS better and lighter IS more practical. I have not been conditioned because that my first luxury watch... But some people are.
      Heck! Some people even think Spring Drive is inferior because it has Quartz in it. That's the way people are.
      Even after getting the White Birch, the 241 is still my "go to" because it's just feels SO MUCH nicer. Jesus Christ, it's on another level when you put it on a MN strap! You just can't feel it at all.

    • @StandardTime
      @StandardTime  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BatCountryAdventures All of that is true. I love the detail you put into your comment! But I just don't like light watches. It's just down to that for me. I don't change my perception based on the statistics. Sometimes the simpler solution is just better subjectively. Also I find SS superior from a user perspective. It's more scratch resistant and has more luster. SS also has double the Young's modulus of Ti.

    • @BatCountryAdventures
      @BatCountryAdventures 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@StandardTime I am not trying to change your perception. I was just describing how some people's perceptions are "trained" into finding things desirable even when people normally find noise or weight unpleasant.
      Even as a Structural Engineer, my normal love for Young's Modulus (and tensile strength) is something I would definitely sacrifice for comfort. The spring bar or my wrist will break long before I am anywhere near the yield strength of titanium. So I don't care if SS has double the Young's Modulus. :D
      Apart from the lightness, the thermal conductivity of titanium is another thing that makes the strap feels invisible. SS warms to your temperature and dissipate heat slower so when you first put it on and as your body temperature changes throughout the day, it just feels like its there.
      I have the SS White Birch and the Titanium SBGA241 and have worn them both for weeks. Both have hairline scratches so I wouldn't say one is superior to the other in terms of hardness (most modern titanium are treated for better scratch resistance anyway).
      Luster... When you have the Zaratsu finish, the brushed surface just doesn't really matter that much.
      All the benefits of SS are paid for in discomforts for diminishing returns.
      I mean I love the White Birch and I love my MM300 but their weights are kind of a hindrance for when I am doing something.

    • @StandardTime
      @StandardTime  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good value and great comfort, but tactility is probably equally as important as aesthetics for me. I’m a sucker for a watch that’s heavier than it seems. Titanium just isn’t for everybody I guess. I bet if they made a steel version it would cost less too!

      @@StandardTime You're right about the feel. But again its Titanium. And you're right, the clasp could be better. So for me it stays in the realm of dress watches. As far as quality goes , it blows a Rolex out and is even more apparent under a microscope. And nearly no maintenance.

    I don’t understand why people don’t understand o accept a new technology ! Previously there was manual winding watches , then came automatic , then came quartz ( I don’t like it personally due to battery replacement ) then came spring drive , which basically an automatic with quartz assist, no battery needed. So what’s the harm in accepting the new technology ? In fact it is much more accurate ! Rolex or any other movement doesn’t comes close ! We should shed this brand locality thing and appreciate the new technology.

    It’s pretty stupid to not like a watch because it’s light so you think it’s cheap. That means it’s more comfortable to wear and you know how much it costs. Absurd

    • @StandardTime
      @StandardTime  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like heavier watches. I don’t think the watch is cheap. The construction certainly doesn’t feel as solid as a heavier watch even though titanium is stronger than steel by mass. I find lighter watches more of an annoyance on my wrist. I like the presence.

    • @alexanderauersperg5149
      @alexanderauersperg5149 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StandardTime how does that even make sense. The light watch is more of an annoyance? That’s like saying a heavier backpack is less annoying because you like presence. Each to their own but it doesn’t make sense to me. I have a big breitling and a 44mm planet ocean and the heft is okay but for an easy daily wear watch a 41mm titanium watch will be more leisurely

    • @StandardTime
      @StandardTime  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn’t have to make sense, it’s very subjective. If I start to not notice a watch due to its lightness, I forget that I am wearing it and am not conscious of its position on my wrist. It’s usually under long sleeves for me so it’s not so obvious until it locates itself in an uncomfortable position. Another factor is I literally never look at it because I forget it’s there under the sleeve.
