    brings back memories, I sang in the choir from 78-83. A couple of times we went up to see the bells being rung.

    Just come across this
    Considering how old the bells are (1775) they sound lovely as individual bells
    Why was the tenor replaced in 1814? Did the original break?

      Bigger bells sound the worst fastest so if they can keep that sounding good the whole peal usually sounds good

    How come there's such a long sally on the tenor? It being only 37cwt does it need it?

    • @tazzy1211
      @tazzy1211  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well it is a big heavy bell it's got a big wheel and that equals longer rope and a bigger sally

    • @ringeradam4575
      @ringeradam4575 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not necessarily. I've only came across such long ropes in Exeter and Liverpool (72 and 82cwt) but nowhere else.
      Both of Dublin's Cathedrals, both 45cwt, all have equal length sallies

      It's the same at Waltham Abbey as well. I can't understand why unless it's for grip for a strapper helping raising the bell

      Wondered about that myself whenever I've seen it.
