Flew on LC130 from ChchNZ to Mcmurdo Station Antarctica to work ODF as a winterover March to October 1987,88,90,91 roughly 2250 miles oneway. Long noisy, flight. Best time of my life
@ Michelle M.: I may have known your dad, for I was on Deep Freeze '68. I wrote, co-produced and -directed this film. And the reason there are no Christchurch scenes is...We didn't shoot any. And we didn't shoot any (we did discuss the possibility) was because we determined Christchurch didn't advance the story.
Disappointed they didn't show the base in Christchurch, just R.I. You can hear the "Navy flier's" wives and children with their Kiwi accents. The movie suggests that the Navy crews are either on the ice or in Rhode Island, but they spent a good amount of time in New Zealand. I guess it means more to me since my dad was Deep Freeze and my mom a Kiwi bride ('65-'67)
Not sure if it is a stupid question : aren´t LC-130 equipped with auto pilot? I´ve seen the pilot having the commands all the time. It may be fatiguing.
Excellent video, however, the skill, experience and courage are not knowledge. They are used to get knowledge. Words of praise on skill, experience and courage cannot be termed as knowledge.

It's a plane that can carry its own weight! Phew! Could've been a problem!
