Some may argue that it was the beginning of her going for less pop-radio but who knows 4 to self title to lemonade to Renaissance and now cowboy carter is a crazy lineup of albums to have in her discography fucking amazing
Actually, Jay's cheating does play a big role on Lemonade, the visuals that accompanied the sound make the narrative on this album very, very clearer: the struggle in her relationships intertwine with social commentary, and makes a broader statement on the collective experience that black women face in America. I honestly don't think one can fully say they fully listened to Lemonade or Beyoncé without watching the visual part of those albums, they really expand on the concepts and the narratives that each song explores, and are meant to be wachted/listened to together.

Binge-listening to Beyoncé's albums may seem tempting, but it often undermines the depth of her artistry. To truly appreciate her work, one must allow ample time for the intricate thematic layers to resonate. Beyoncé's albums are a testament to her profound musical acumen and unwavering dedication to her craft. Her meticulous control over production ensures a cohesive and immersive experience for the listener. However, in today's fast-paced world, many are quick to move on to the next fleeting musical trend, missing the opportunity to delve into the profound messages embedded in her music. Beyond her recorded works, Beyoncé's prowess as a performer is unparalleled, captivating audiences with her vocal acrobats, dynamic stage presence, and meticulous attention to detail in her live shows. For those seeking a deeper connection with her artistry, exploring her visual catalogues and live performances offers a gateway to a profound admiration for her talent; It's where most people fall deeply in love with her. The disrespect with that first Renaissance comment.. boi... I'm glad you came around tho. Renaissance was no doubt Beyonce's most ambitious project when it came out (me thinks Cowboy Carter might have topped that by its significance but it is still up there as a masterpiece). It was not made to serve as a commercial album but a profound dive into black and black queer culture influence on Dance music (as Cowboy Carter is a study on the Black influence on country music as a reflection of the black foundation of America itself but I digress) and it packs so many references from the Disco music to the ballroom scene that only an artist from Beyonce's caliber would be able to bring to the mainstream. I understand that is not necessarily a first listen instantaneous hype type of album, but more like an art statement you need some context to fully appreciate but when you do.. your mind will be blown.

You guys ever think that people can like different things, have different opinions and dislike artists even if they are popular artists? He handled it very respectfully he just didn’t love her songs and thats ok
Great reviews and reaction. I loved hearing your perspective of her music as a young gen-z’er who wasn’t around during the height of her commercial success. The only thing that kinda of annoyed me was you kept alluding to the fact there were people directing her career with statements like “they realized Beyoncé’s sounds” lol the Vice President of Columbia once said “A lot of artists pretend to be in control of their career, Beyoncé actually is.” And everyone who has worked with her says they are executing her ideas, whether or not she is writing. Also the reason a lot of Beyoncé’s songs are tailored to only her being able to sing them is because she has always been her own vocal producer. In fact, she also was the vocal producer for Destiny’s Child and arranged their harmonies and structure of her songs. One of her sound engineers did a whole university course and talked about how she is very meticulous and would sit in the studio with him making sure the vocals were stacked right. He talked about how one time they were up for 48 hours because she had all these creative ideas for structuring a song that she ended up scrapping. Jonny Cofar, who produced Freedom from lemonade said Beyoncé is a producer, not because she is actually making the beats, but because she is hearing the music. She’ll receive a song from a producer and will tell them to add or take away certain instruments and weave different songs together. Something that people try to drag Beyonce for having a lot of credited writers and producers, but that is intentional. She can and has written songs by herself for Destiny’s Child and her solo career. In 2006, when B’Day came out she discussed how she enjoyed making that album due to collaborative nature. She said it’s something that she wants to do because she doesn’t want her sound to become stagnant. But again, she’s always the director. Also, I think the reason Beyonce has been able to have a long career is because she never allowed her record label to mold her. Because Columbia Records didn’t believe Destiny’s Child was going to be super successful, her dad who was their manager was able to negotiate a deal that basically gave them full creative control as artists. A deal that usually only veteran musicians get lol. They didnt believe Dangerously in Love would be commercially successful and wanted her to re-record it. When she did B’Day, she self fundrd that entire project and recorded it without Columbia’s knowledge and they were pissed. I Am… Sasha Fierce was probably her first album where they were aligned. And then she fired her father as manager and that’s when she really became more experimental with her sound. She’s been able to go against what’s expected of her which has earned her a loyal fan base while also bringing on new fans. And then when you get into the music videos and live performances, again, her collaborators are always talking about how creative and involved she is and how they are bringing her vision to life.
When you get to 4, that is the beginning of grown woman, been through real life experiences Beyoncé. The other albums were her just singing what she thought would be popular. Up to that point, she had been working hard, sheltered, with little experiences in love and life. Now she's seasoned.
Their takes are so…disrespectful and ignorant. I’m a millennial and people practically idolized older generations musically because we appreciated how good it was. Gen Z Is just so ageist that they come across…uncultured.
Renaissance grows on you SO much, at first I was confused asf but now it’s my favorite beyonce album and I always listen to it when I’m doing a long activity like cleaning my entire room ro soemthing it just uplifts ur energy and ur right it’s not really a house album at all it’s a dance album combining disco, reggae, Afro beat, house, electronic, hyper pop, ect… Edit: mine featuring drake is an underrated masterpiece I didn’t get it at first either but it hits at 3:00 am
My top three album from her are Renaissance, Lemonade, and Homecoming. I wish you would talk about the Homecoming live album and the Coachella performance, because I thought it was a really monumental moment for you to mention. Adding to your statement of her being one of the greatest performers alive. But regardless I really enjoy and appreciate your thoughts.
I don't agree with your takes about DIL and Bday feeling old. Like, I get what you mean but it seemed to be the crux of your reasoning for disliking them as a whole and I just can't get behind that reasoning lol you're ofc free to dislike them! They're actually in my bottom two as well but for completely diff reasons is all Other than that (and lemonade being not as good sonically??? WHAT!), I enjoyed this vid cause you were very up front about your opinions. When non Beyoncé fans review her music they seem kinda scared of what the beyhive will say to them lmao we not gonna jump yall. I'll take honesty over buttering up/watered down opinions. Glad you enjoyed listening!
Kiddo the old sound on Sasha Fierce was deliberately retro already at the time it came out. It sounded mostly 80’s already at the time. Btw Destiny’s Child was a vehicle band made by her Dad for her and it was obvious she was Destiny’s Child from the first single No No No. First because of her looks and then once people heard her on Survivor (this is to me Beyoncé’s first album, so many signs of upcoming greatness here in spite of dated sounds, Bootylicious, Fancy, Sexy Daddy…the Emotions cover was a highlight as well as the Independent Women pt2 and Dangerously In Love which was originally on that album) People realized then she was singing, co-producing, writing and ad libbing like nobody since Mariah it became clear she was unique. Her MTV performance of Dangerously in Love live with the dove was a turning moment. About the first album. It’s too old?? You don’t know Naughty Girl, Baby Boy, Dangerously In Love? The first two albums are classic. Irreplaceable isn’t Bday’s best song it’s the most generic written and produced by Swedish producers, Ring The Alarm, Get Me Bodied and Upgrade You are imo the best songs there. Also you probably respond to Crazy In Love and Irreplaceable because they’ve been played over and over everywhere for decades now and are part of the collective consciousness. Also Renaissance isn’t about House music it’s about DISCO and dance in general! VOL1 DISCO VOL2 COUNTRY VOL3 ?????( probably ROCK although I hope it isn’t since Country IS Rock) Also Madonna’s career is longer than Beyonce’s with albums paving the way in a zeitgeist way since 1982! She is Beyonce’s n.1 career model/blueprint . I agree about Renaissance being less memorable than Cowboy Carter even though it’s amazing. Taylor Swift cannot hold a candle to Beyonce’s otherworldly talent by no means. No disrespect to TS it’s just the truth. Beyoncé will probably be remembered as history’s greatest pop superstar alongside Michael Jackson Prince, Madonna and Mariah. (Arguably alongside Aretha, Stevie, Elton John, Donna, Olivia Newton John, Tina, Whitney, Adele, TS, Ariana, Bruno, Freddie, Sinatra and Elvis) Streisand is in a league of her own being the only one to be an actual Hollywood movie legend. We’ll have to see what the future holds for Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo and Harry Styles. Great video! Is burping a cool thing? Enlighten an old dog here please.

I Actually really enjoyed this video and im glad you took the time to dive into her discography (especially as a swiftie knowing the history between these two fan bases 😅) Beyonce definitely is this an artist who has the talent to do whatever genre or sound she wants to and the only limit she has is pretty much the one she sets on herself and even though you didn't turn out to become "hive" respecting appreciating and loving her music is pretty much what any fan could ask for from a nonfan. Ps please ignore the angry and rude hive it was a great reaction and I'm glad you took the time hopefully you'll tune in for act lll😊 ps again I really would be here for you doing the homecoming and the gift (just to let you know it is a heavily leaning afrobeat album and homecoming is a Coachella performance that you can watch on Netflix that is accompanied by the live album)
Beyoncé does write and has written for all 27 years of her career. Beyoncé has performed with or chosen to do tributes for: 1.Michael Jackson - King of Pop - in at least two occasions, once while he was alive. commended by him constantly in public 2.Prince - King of Funk - collaborated live at The Grammy’s and praised by him in public. 3.Tina Turner - Queen of Rock - TWICE Chosen as the only living artist to honor her twice while alive including in front of US President to give Tina a Medal of Honor. 4.Aretha Franklin - Queen of Soul - once 5.Stevie Wonder - King of R&B - multiple times Chosen as the only living artist to honor him while alive. 6.Barbara Streisand - the original Queen Bee and best selling female artist of the 20th century Chosen to cover her song in the Oscar’s and honor her while alive. 7.Diana Ross - Queen of Motown - multiple times, including on both of their birthdays Beyoncé also played her in a movie and had to suppress her vocals in order to do so. 8.Mariah Carey - America’s Songbird, Queen of Christmas, and highest billboard 1 hits of any artist on earth - has shared the stage with her and has said that Beyoncé songs are difficult to sing. 9.Celine Dion - Queen of Power Ballads - sang together , was quoted saying that she only attended Grammys to see and hear Beyoncé. At 24 years old, Beyoncé was chosen to sing ALL nominated songs in the entertainment industry’s most prestigious event, the Oscar’s, including an Opera song. The list goes on. She started being chosen for these collaborations the ripe age of 21. Taylor Swift is damn 34 years old and is still singing teenage breakup songs and hasn’t been chosen by any titans of music, to do anything. They respect her artistry, they do not question her popularity by the popular culture. But they sure as hell don’t hold the same respect and esteem that they do for Beyoncé because anyone who’s anyone and educated in pop culture, music, and American history that has attended all of the award shows or been alive and aware of the last 20 years knows that Beyoncé has always ruled the stage of and been the favorite of any artist with an ounce of credibility on their bones. The titans of music, not one genre. They know. Your cheap opinions are not needed. Anyone who’s anyone knows. Only the culturally ignorant, historically ignorant, rabid-fanatic and-racist, deny that reality. You were so disrespectful throughout this whole review.
Dude. This video made my night. I applaud you for being honest and giving some really thoughtful commentary on her albums. I still remember where I was when I first saw Bills, Bills, Bills. (I knew even then, she was gonna go solo, lol.) I even enjoyed your tangents. I must disagree with you, Signs is and will always be one of my faves😅. I'm a year older than her. She has consistently challenged herself to just be amazing. When I first listened to Renaissance Act 1, as a black queer man, and by track 3 i immediately realized what she was doing... I love it. Can't wait to see you're reaction to Cowboy Carter. But I will at least throw you a bone. Maybe listen to it again, and maybe you'll see the album in a different way. She did say that it wasn't a country album. It's a Beyonce album. A nice road trip.
Beyoncé from 4 onwards (intentionally) feels like a video game character after you’ve maxed your stats. Like she finished the story of the game when she became such an icon in the 2000s-an era where most people still bought physical music and was not kind to women in the public eye, and now she’s just seeing what achievements she can get.
Whew! It's wild to hear someone say they weren't alive when D.C. was together... time is crazy. But this is cool! I like this concept of going back thru the discography.
the visuals and the live shows also have a huge impact on the music imo. Renaissance wasn’t my shit when I first listened to it but…. After the Renaissance tour, I gave it a re-listen and it’s my favorite Beyoncé album now. it beat out SELF TITLED. that’s the impact of her tours and visuals it’s crazy
Everything you said around the 25 min mark of how she evolved is exactly what Madonna has done from the early 80s up until the mid 2000s. She kept evolving and was the trendsetter and made some really amazing and iconic music. Not only that, she's an incredible visual artist. I really hope for your sake and ours you do get to do a deep dive of her catalogue/videos/tours. There's no other like her.
The love for Lemonade and 4 is so real (Lemonade is my fave Beyoncé album too, slay). And yes, HARD agree, Reinassance is a growerrr. I think it's a solid musical journey, but not a strong record, unlike (in ny humble opinion) Cowboy Carter which is both. She killed that shit. Can't wait to see your full video on it! 🐯💜
You should definitely react to Black is King..the visual and the behind the scenes. Stevie Wonder Tribute with Ed Sheeran and Gary Clark, jr. It's outstanding. Homecoming...if this doesn't make you want to rethink being in the Beyhive, then nothing will.
Honestly you’re right about the self titled being more personal because at the time beyonce had her first child Blue and everyone expected her to fall into the showed or slowed down but she made self titled as a way to show she can’t still be a mother AND be sexy (or as we know her today perpetually horny). And yes i do see similarities between 4 and self fired but i like to describe it as Beyoncé become a new mother in 4 and self-tiled being that mother but in self titled she being both wife and mother sides
I feel you already said everything I could say about Beyoncé , so I will just add that I’m looking forward to more content and hopefully we both get more time to enjoy the music.
Beyoncé uses her albums to tell a story. It’s like watching a movie. You wouldn’t want to come in 1/4 of the way through, leave and then come back to watch the end or have people to tell you the best part and then go in just to watch that part of the movie. It’s weird, because I didn’t realize that until I watched someone react to her entire Lemonade album recently. Having said all that, let me give you an overview of the movie that is Cowboy Carter: This whole album is in response to how she was treated at CMA. American Requiem is telling them about themselves. She researched and it took over 5 years for her to develop this album. The album is full of history and reclaiming music that black people/ slaves started, but were kicked out of once it became popular. Blackbird was written by Paul McCartny to give black women/girls hope during the Civil Rights movement . He saw how they were being treated. That’s why all the singers on the song are black women. The others are four black female country singers. Let’s just point out that Country radio has an issue with playing black artists so Beyoncé told everyone about her new venture during the Super Bowl then dropped two country songs. The Bey Hive activated and most country stations played her music. But to top it off, her album is presented as it’s own radio station with country legends presenting her music. This Album was meant to be Act I. This was Beyoncé’s response to how she was treated at the CMA. The requiem funeral procession was trying to let us know that Country Music was rooted and started by blacks. If you look into the history, it started by people putting on black face for minstrel music making fun of the slaves with their banjos. Then people who are credited with starting country, came to black street artists to learn their craft. Once it became big, black people were pushed aside and they started gate keeping the genre. Same thing happened with rock & roll, jazz, blues, and many of the genres that are considered to have been started in America. Thus, Beyoncé is reclaiming all of the music that we’ve been kicked out of that we helped create. It’s why this album delves into all those genres and ends with her buckin breaking down walls and asking if we can hear her now. Then she says that we are the ones who have to clean ourselves of our father’s sins to end the funeral procession .
@@Saintacy You’re not reading into it. There’s a lot more there including Alligator Tears probably being an analogy of the black experience in America. I just didn’t want to bore people too much.
@@bdhu2001 Cool Cool! It just gives it so many more layers- which, Beyonce, so duh- that makes it seem obvious once you do see it (the dissonance, the lyric choices, the placement on the album), much like racial dynamics in this country.
i feel like they r better when listening to them in the context of her discography. when u r more familiar w her sound and her style they def grow on u
I appreciate Bey's growth over the years too. Lemonade deserved AOTY 🔥. Everything after Lemonade is Beyoncé picking a genre, using it as the underlying theme for her album, and dominating the 💩 out of the sound. She also makes each album her own by mixing in different sounds to put her own spin on the genre. A true visionary and extraordinary vocalist who takes you on a ride. The Gift: Afrobeat Renaissance: House Cowboy Carter: Country
As a Millennial/OG member of the Beyhive, I would say along with Michael, Janet, Diana Ross, and Whitney Houston also paved the way for Beyonce's success. Mary J Blige would also be a predecessor, as she mixed R&B and hip hop in a way that Beyonce pulled from. She's also clearly been influenced by Tina Turner in her performance style. Also, while Renaissance does pull from house music, it also draws on disco, funk, afrobeat, hyperpop and 90's era Atlanta bass. Also, as with Cowboy Carter highlighting black country artists, Renaissance also centers and pays homage to black LGBTQ creators and the ballroom subculture, and samples/interpolated classic dance tracks. All of the references are really a great rabbit hole to dive into if you have time Also, Ariana is clearly a musical daughter of Mariah Carey IMO
Your review was good. You need to dive into her live performances and see her progression as well as the other albums you missed. Lastly, heres the thing about TS v. Beyonce. TS = Harry Potter, her songs are about her & her life with supporting characters. If youre interested in that with the vocals you dragged, thats perfectly fine. BEYONCÉ = Star Wars, her music is about world building, including multiple stories & people, including her, but also outside of herself. This is why you cant binge her Art. You need to dive into the meaning behind the moves and why songs or collabs were chosen for the overarching era &/or movie. Theres so much more for you to learn and discover to truly appreciate the music that'll be studied for decades to come

I found it hilarious for a 20yo to keep saying "its old" not understanding that at the time of release, Beyonce brought new sounds that have been copied by the industry as a whole. So many trends started by Beyonce are now industry standards. Artists ecen changed the day that they drop new music because of Bey. Also. Secretly dropping music wandt really much of a thing until her. I think you need a wider perspective of music and the eras if you want to dive back into an artists catalogue. For context, I saw a review from Reaction Twins for MJ Beat It. They took note of what it must have been like to watch videos that were feature films and the (then cool) way the sidewalk lit up wererver MJ stepped.
The visual aspect is VERY important so not including those within your analysis is a detriment to your entire video. Bypassing a lot of important details that bring the entirety of Beyoncé’s vision isn’t doing your due diligence and I suspect you know more intimately with Taylor yet not giving the same grace to Beyonce already gives the video a disservice. ❤

You cape for Taylor Swift, clearly you don’t care about vocals THAT much
you're coping lol he dogs on her multiple times in this video
Whoa ageism can really effect your taste in music, bc in what world is a song sounding “old” a critique 💀💀💀

tbf he means dated (sonically) not old in age
Right! Very short sighted.
I hate when people cap on gen z… but after this video I finally understand 😔
Their takes are so…disrespectful and ignorant. I’m a millennial and people practically idolized older generations musically because we appreciated how good it was. Gen Z Is just so ageist that they come across…uncultured.

Renaissance grows on you SO much, at first I was confused asf but now it’s my favorite beyonce album and I always listen to it when I’m doing a long activity like cleaning my entire room ro soemthing it just uplifts ur energy and ur right it’s not really a house album at all it’s a dance album combining disco, reggae, Afro beat, house, electronic, hyper pop, ect…
Edit: mine featuring drake is an underrated masterpiece I didn’t get it at first either but it hits at 3:00 am
I agree ❤
None of her music ever grew on me, most overrated in music history
people sleep on 4 soooo much but it reallt is a flawless album!!! like 4 is basically a collection of her classics

@@sigmalpha_testostronewolf maybe, but I keep what I said bc not liking Yoncé would be equally crazy
First because of her looks and then once people heard her on Survivor (this is to me Beyoncé’s first album, so many signs of upcoming greatness here in spite of dated sounds, Bootylicious, Fancy, Sexy Daddy…the Emotions cover was a highlight as well as the Independent Women pt2 and Dangerously In Love which was originally on that album)
People realized then she was singing, co-producing, writing and ad libbing like nobody since Mariah it became clear she was unique.
VOL1 DISCO VOL2 COUNTRY VOL3 ?????( probably ROCK although I hope it isn’t since Country IS Rock)
Also Madonna’s career is longer than Beyonce’s with albums paving the way in a zeitgeist way since 1982!

Ps please ignore the angry and rude hive it was a great reaction and I'm glad you took the time hopefully you'll tune in for act lll😊 ps again I really would be here for you doing the homecoming and the gift (just to let you know it is a heavily leaning afrobeat album and homecoming is a Coachella performance that you can watch on Netflix that is accompanied by the live album)
im glad u enjoyed it!! great points as well
It took me 3 years to get into Renaissance but after watching the film, that combo is just 10/10!!
Beyoncé does write and has written for all 27 years of her career.
Beyoncé has performed with or chosen to do tributes for:
1.Michael Jackson - King of Pop - in at least two occasions, once while he was alive.
commended by him constantly in public
2.Prince - King of Funk - collaborated live at The Grammy’s and praised by him in public.
3.Tina Turner - Queen of Rock - TWICE
Chosen as the only living artist to honor her twice while alive including in front of US President to give Tina a Medal of Honor.
4.Aretha Franklin - Queen of Soul - once
5.Stevie Wonder - King of R&B - multiple times
Chosen as the only living artist to honor him while alive.
6.Barbara Streisand - the original Queen Bee and best selling female artist of the 20th century
Chosen to cover her song in the Oscar’s and honor her while alive.
7.Diana Ross - Queen of Motown - multiple times, including on both of their birthdays
Beyoncé also played her in a movie and had to suppress her vocals in order to do so.

A nice road trip.
im so glad u enjoyed!!!
Beyoncé from 4 onwards (intentionally) feels like a video game character after you’ve maxed your stats. Like she finished the story of the game when she became such an icon in the 2000s-an era where most people still bought physical music and was not kind to women in the public eye, and now she’s just seeing what achievements she can get.
the deluxe version of bday has so many added song like welcome to hollywood with jayz or the iconic shakira collab or even world wide woman
i will def have to listen to it
Whew! It's wild to hear someone say they weren't alive when D.C. was together... time is crazy. But this is cool! I like this concept of going back thru the discography.

Wait you were born after 2004?

the visuals and the live shows also have a huge impact on the music imo. Renaissance wasn’t my shit when I first listened to it but…. After the Renaissance tour, I gave it a re-listen and it’s my favorite Beyoncé album now. it beat out SELF TITLED. that’s the impact of her tours and visuals it’s crazy
Haunted is also literally in my top 10 songs EVER between any/all artists

Not agree with everything but I like the video ❤️
beyonce is so peak like idk what to say she always kills it with every single album she puts out like fr

Having said all that, let me give you an overview of the movie that is Cowboy Carter:
This whole album is in response to how she was treated at CMA.
@@bdhu2001 That fully shifts Alliigator Tears in my head and it was already a favorite🤯👍🏾

@@bdhu2001 Cool Cool! It just gives it so many more layers- which, Beyonce, so duh- that makes it seem obvious once you do see it (the dissonance, the lyric choices, the placement on the album), much like racial dynamics in this country.
Hey, white flags blue= justice
Most Beyhive agree on the opinion that IAMSF is her worst album. It also has her worst song, “radio”
Bro I don't know, but I listened to Renaissance and Cowboy Carter and I really didn't like those records barring maybe a few songs.
i feel like they r better when listening to them in the context of her discography. when u r more familiar w her sound and her style they def grow on u
The Gift: Afrobeat
Renaissance: House
Cowboy Carter: Country
All of the references are really a great rabbit hole to dive into if you have time
Also, Ariana is clearly a musical daughter of Mariah Carey IMO
