My mother had a stroke on September 20, 2018. She had brain surgery on September 21, 2018. She was paralyzed on her left side at first. She seemed as though she would forever remain paralyzed and without much hope. She went to rehab for 2 1/2 months. And then she came home December 5th, 2018. I am her daughter and I care for her 24/7. She is learning to walk again. At first I was heartbroken because it took 2 people to care for her. And I thought I would not be able to care for her myself. I had always told her that if anything ever happened. That I would always take care of her. That I would never put her in a home. During her stay at the rehab, I came down with puemonia. During my 3 week absence she began walking again with a walker. And now she is home. I am working with her everyday. And we have physical therapists that come out to our home 2-3 times a week. We are suing her doctor for malpractice. We currently have 2 Attorneys assisting us in doing this. We will get through this togeather. It has always been just me and my mom. Ever since I was a kid. She was and is my best friend. I will never give up on her. And I will care for her to the best of my ability until her last breath. She was honestly the best mother a person could ever hope to have. I was blessed when I recieved her to be my mother from God. I cherish every moment with her. This video brought me more hope. May God Bless everyone who has to watch this video and others to learn about strokes. They are terrible. I had a stroke a year ago, and realized from the very beginning the amount of work it would take for me to recover if there even was a recovery. I never gave up nor even considered it. My recovery is far from perfect but there were no poor me's. I am single with no family within two thousand miles. However the world does not sit still, and it will pass you by very quickly therefore you have to try. What do you have to lose except yourself? I deserved better so I fought as though I was fighting for my life. And boy, am I glad I did. It takes a good year for the dust to settle but once you see how far you can come back (hopefully) give yourself a big pat on the back.
Beautifully said. My recovery mirrors yours - you have to give it your best, fight as if life depends on it! My stroke was a year ago too. I'm recovering well but it's not been easy.

I had a stroke two years ago. lost my speech and some motor skills and other stuff that only I can experience. now I'm working full time loading trucks, a very intensive job. Sometimes I have a hard time finding the words and feeling "off", but a lot of it is mental, or Mood. Being positive, working out, spending time outside with family has been very helpful in my recovery. For all survivors I hope you to have a fast and full recovery.
Re-wiring the brain gets easier the more you practice - a perspective that looks forward to eternity is a blessing - having survived TBIs and then being blessed with acquired savantism - everyday it is a blessing to be happy and to smile, small gifts from God and to the world are amazing!!! Thank you for inspiring.

We focus on the physical in stroke recovery. That's what we practice and that's what all the information I got in inn-patient rehab was about. Over two years post-stroke, I wish I had come home with more of an understanding of the mental and emotional challenges. Because a stroke doesn't just impair the physical abilities, it is also a impairment to functioning emotionally. I still have a hard time controlling laughter, and that's awkward. I had tremendous rages and depression as a result of my brain. Not just dealing with the difficulties, but of the miswiring of my brain. I still am not sure quite who I am now, post-stroke.
Kari i personally find your videos inspiring, but i never found a photo of yours during your so call;ed stroke. I am a male who now is 51 years. In 2017 february 9th a had a stroke. A brainstem stroke. I had a headache since october 2016. At the Maasstad hospital Rotterdam, they made 2 mri scans and they could not find anything. In late january 2017, they found (after a 2 color ct scan) that in my brain the blood flows in one certain vein, both side. During that time my bp and blood sugar was always oke. Still my bp and blood sugar is oke. But now i am paralyzed on my right side and i have difficulties with my speech too. Every day i work on my own and every week i get physiotherapy of one hour. at home.

So glad I stumbled upon this, my mother recently suffered a ischemic stroke. Doctors were able to remove the clot that was in her brain through her femoral artery. It’s only been 3 days ago, her speech is very delayed and it takes her a while to say one or two words. She cries because she’s trying to talk but it won’t come out. She can understand what you’re saying and follow small commands. Her left side is immobile and so far she has not passed her swallow test. I just wonder what will her quality of life be. Will she ever walk again and be able to take care of herself or will she need 24/7 nursing care forever. I know it’s a case by case situation and every stroke patient recovers different but these are just some of the questions that run through my mind. Oh and the neuro doctors said she’ll never be able to drive again.
I had my stroke in 2022 perfect physical 2 weeks before. Healthy 55 year old on no medication. They wanted to know why. No heart problems. The only thing they think happened was Covid. I am right handed. That was the side I couldn’t move for 2 months. In hospital 42 days. I came home determined. I wanted to walk I just kepted trying. I couldn’t use my hand. I just did my regular duties like nothing was wrong. Instead of using the left hand I used my affected hand. I’m slow but use. I’ve just now able to write my name. I’m still numb on the whole right side but moving I have no small motor skills but moving again. Blessed by God. I understand the potato chip. I am proud to do just small things.
Hi , wonderful service to human kind and god bless you to serve many people. Mam, I just wondering how that 75 years old gentlemen post stroke of 20 years didn’t have spasticity . How it’s possible ,Within 4 weeks of treatment patient could lift a potato chip to eat . How did you managed spasticity before wiring ? Please don’t mistake me for this query . Thanks
Hi there beautiful people, my mother just had a stroke a few days ago, she's still in the critical phase but I want her to get better as much as possible and I have deep faith in the power of the mind and the body. These comments and this video give me more inspiration to keep pushing hard everyday. I suffered from a stroke on 12152019 and I'm still not walking but it's close my left hand and arm is still not functioning but there is little by little movement every day. I was a bit of an adrenaline junkie and have pushed myself and my body to its limits but I have had fun in my life I'm going to start psyhio therapy on 041422so I'm hopeful to convince my wife and family and doctor that I can and want to drive again which is my biggest passion in life I love driving anywhere. To me it reduces stress
Think about it. You can probably say theabc s very fast forward but reverse you may lag. Our brain licks sequences. And studies I understand will tell us that the faster you can said something fast the longer you will remember it. Songs have rhythm and sounds, It's like trying to survive in the woods, if you don't know how to do something. You struggle
I had a stroke at the age of 21 1/7/19 I was home for three days before going to Chandler regional Hospital. I had a headache and was nauseous for those three days. I was not paralyzed or weak. I have seizures when my blood pressure gets to high I'm currently on 1500mg of keppra twice a day with hydroclorthizide, amalodapine, and Lisinopril. I smoked a lot of marijuana before and after my stroke. I'm surprised I'm not dead and I love life and changed my eating habits and stopped drinking energy drinks and less soda.

I’m 43 and I had a stroke on the left side of my brain sometime in the past few weeks. didn’t know it happened and assumed since I have a brain condition called Chiari Malformation that my brain was just acting weird as usual. When I found out about the stroke I already had dead brain issue showing on the mri or ct scan they took. I was shocked!! I do have some comprehension issues and some right sided weakness but truly I feel lucky!! I wonder if the fact that I didn’t know it happened made me recover faster. Kinda like mind over matter.
I've had aphasia. I've had one where I could be nderstand english. I couldn't read frosty snow nan except maybe 3 words in a struggling phrase. Best I remember. I take those and it just got slowly better and better, It takes lots of patience especially know before you were very educated and sharp. Gee that's frustrating, You can't get the right rods out and people can't really meaning what your saying about something. You think you are saying the correct words but you don't realize how poor things are coming out. Patience.

I can walk a little and my hand can pick some with the help of another hand. I knw it my hard by tell this some give points gives some hopes.I'm from Phil thank you.
My dad has suffered a stroke 6 months ago however he’s still not fully aware and still in a hospital he moves greatly but is t quite aware of what’s going on and no one has an explanation
The area of the brain where the blockage occurs determines the physical and mental symptoms. I've made a near full physical recovery from my ischaemic attack four months ago, but my recall for things like celebrity names, places, film titles and songs is still quite patchy.
The strange thing on aphasia is I noticed I could reasonably finally got ok reading simple English maybe but when the topic I tried to read changed I wasn't worth a hoot. Try it a few days then when you try to go back to English you cat hardly read it again either.
Excuse me. Yes I've learned to talk fine like anybody else. And when I couldn't barely crawl with limbs trembling yes I can walk fine again too, and another stroke I couldn't u derstand English and I got all that ack too, I'm a religious man and I count my blessings. Frosty the snowman one word at a time. trying to say one word at a time then some times I could make two, Strokes and aphasia takes time and daily tryng.

My partner had a stroke last week, his thalamus is damaged, dysphagia happening. I am determined for his recovery every single day. He is a Special Forces Green Beret, it is hard-coded in his DNA not to give up. With Kari Dunning's Ted Talk, HOPE is ALL!!
All the best.. I got my stroke my 13th Feb.. Hope he is better
It’s early and he will recover. Maybe not 100% but there will be progress. Especially if he got treatment early. Hang in there and search TH-cam for stroke recovery videos. There are many and they are inspirational.

I had stroke one month ago.i am 39.Thanks to the messages here.we are not alone.
THANK YOU TO UPLIFT US !! You most amazing and gift woman. Surviving Stroke never stop. Thank you so much !!
Very positive talk, esp. if you are a stroke patient.
My dad had a stroke 2.5 months ago. He has severe aphasia and can't move his right side. This certainly gives me some hope. Thank you!
Look at the Stroke Recovery videos from the INR in Florida. They’re doing miraculous work
Hey man how’s your dad? So did my dad …. Same symptoms … his right side is getting better but the aphasia is bad :( did your dad get better? Like able to speak again and reason?
Thank you, I really needed to hear this! My fiance suffered from stroke 2 months ago. I always encourage and support him so he will never feel alone in this battle. We always celebrate every little progress ❤️
She's easy to listen to and gets to the point.
Powerful words. I feel inspired, energized and hopeful. Thank you for that. I'm eight years out from my stroke and thanks to you, I'm more determined than ever to continue making progress toward full recovery.
God bless her. My father had a stroke 2 weeks ago and he can't feel his left arm and can hardly support any weight with left foot, now I have faith in him.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💗
Great job Kari! Proud to call you friend and colleague! Impactful.
that's my momma!
She's a fantastic speaker! This is such an inspirational talk :)
Know how you feel as my children would say that's my mom 7 weeks since Stroke, TIA and Concussion - but doing my PT OT and starting speech God Bless your dear mom.
She is a good mummy!! You are the luckiest person on this planet!!
God bless ur mum, reslly interesting presentation snd gives me the hope of getting full recovery
A very sweet person and has a gentle soul. Hope she keeps helping and making our lives better..
Thank you from a survivor
Great speech, I just read the book Stroke Rebel, which is another living proof of what Mrs. Dunning says here.
I watched this video, since i was hospitalized with stroke 4 years ago. I'm now able to walk in my room unassisted after only 3 earlier months of physical therapys, but with little dificulties due to spasticity. Spasticity is the only obstacle that limits my mobility. I'm now looking to get this treatment, but I don't know where to get it. I'm from Nyc. If there's somebody who knows any clinic like this somewhere in the U. S. I will be glad to see from him/her. Thank you
My mom had a strokece anda seizure. J wasas blessed with both. God is good.

I’m a stroke survivor and I’m still improving almost 2 years later
A family member had a stroke last night and I was terrified, but now that I know that there is a way for him to recover and successfully regain his speech it really not only gives me hope for his full and complete recovery, thanks so much for giving me the hope I needed Kari!
My father had a stroke four months ago...he have started walking again but is not able to speak n write ...
He can repeat the words I ask him but own his own he can't speak anything
I am so much worried about him ...can you tell something about your recovery...the speech gain
Thank you so much. I needed to hear this. My father had his second strock and can't move his right side, can't talk and sometimes doesn't remember us
Kari i personally find your videos inspiring, but i never found a photo of yours during your so call;ed stroke. Every day i work on my own and every week i get physiotherapy of one hour. at home.
Excellent very informative and inspiring. Thank you 💖
Oh lady... You are a magician

Oh and the neuro doctors said she’ll never be able to drive again.
how has she been recovering? speech, cognitive, and motor functions?
I really appreciate you helping
Thanks
no doctors in america talks about this. but (Aikido) streches help with hand recovory
I had a stroke 29May 2018, left side still useless, at home in a hospital bed U.k. 62 when it happened 63 now.
Hi there beautiful people, my mother just had a stroke a few days ago, she's still in the critical phase but I want her to get better as much as possible and I have deep faith in the power of the mind and the body. Now the every day training is an important factor if you can see the urge of it. What do you do when my mother is in neglect of what happened due to the brain damage? To still stimulate her to act and practice practice practice
Óscar Delgado God BLESS you mom. I Will pray for her 🙏🙏
Hey Oscar, do WhatsApp me +60122290073
I have a herb spray which can save your mother as it saved my grandmother from her incapability to speak and move.. I truly believe that this spray can save lives
yes
Great video. Thank you.
My brother suffered a Massive Stroke, when my Dad found him on the floor they started to argue, time was lost in getting him to the hospital.....he will never walk or talk again according to Neurologist.
I need hope right now. My dad just had a stroke
I wish more doctors thought like u
My dad had a ischemic stroke on jan 7 at the age of 56 causing hyper tension. After 6 month he had some changes. But doctor said that he will have memory loss and get well at 90% only. AFTER HE DO THE SAME OF UNCONCIOUSNESS CAUSING THE TAB GET SIDE EFFECTS. NOW WE DONT KNOW WHAT DO TO PLS HELP ME DOCTOR.
this video not just give hopes to the people who have stroke. it's for everyone. for people who thinks something s impossible.
Wow! Kari Dunning is amazing
I survived from multiple infarction stroke I had severe spasticity and hemiplegia months ago then when I researched about fasting promotes bdnf I did water fast for 40 days after a month I got fully recover no sign of stroke from me
Thank you.
One step at a time!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💗
I had a stroke two years ago. I need this lady to work with me. Insurance won't cover more PT though...

Allahu Akbar..Allah Is The greatest..Never loose hope my brothers and sisters

I've had aphasia. I've had one where I could be nderstand english. I couldn't read frosty snow nan except maybe 3 words in a struggling phrase. Best I remember. I take those and it just got slowly better and better, It takes lots of patience especially know before you were very educated and sharp. Gee that's frustrating, You can't get the right rods out and people can't really meaning what your saying about something. You think you are saying the correct words but you don't realize how poor things are coming out. Patience.

My dad has suffered a stroke 6 months ago however he’s still not fully aware and still in a hospital he moves greatly but is t quite aware of what’s going on and no one has an explanation
fantastic woman ...very inspiring....im 5 m post , getting there!......
I would like to know what would cause you to lose your memory
The area of the brain where the blockage occurs determines the physical and mental symptoms. I've made a near full physical recovery from my ischaemic attack four months ago, but my recall for things like celebrity names, places, film titles and songs is still quite patchy.
The strange thing on aphasia is I noticed I could reasonably finally got ok reading simple English maybe but when the topic I tried to read changed I wasn't worth a hoot. Try it a few days then when you try to go back to English you cat hardly read it again either.
How can I find out more about this?
So how to get this treatment i stroke survivor sns hsving soasisity
What causes a secondary herniation in a Hemorrhagic Stroke patient?
