I just saw this video and will be making a bunch of men's scarves with it. I will be donating them to a local charity that helps MANY people. Thank you for this beautiful but simple pattern!
Thanks for the pattern, made a men's sacrf and changed the 2 colors so that the ends and the neck had the blended yarn and the sides are solid yarn. Looks great! I opted out of adding fridges since I made it extra long. Thanks again. I appreciated the easy-going stiches.
+Sandra Beasley I learned to crochet first and when I started to learn to knit, there was quite a learning curve. It felt so different and it took a while before my hands stopped trying to do what they knew. Practice makes perfect (or as perfect as something handmade can be)!
I am pleased with your tutorial and how the scarves I made turned out. Thank you for your wonderful lessons. I am a beginner at crochet. May you have a wonderful Christmas.
I've been crocheting for almost 50 years now, and way back when I was first learning/starting to crochet, I made a number of scarves in this pattern, and in variations of it. At no point, however, in five decades have I ever resorted to using dirt-colored yarn. Many years ago, I once began making an article in a neutral "color," and my then-husband said, "If that's for me, stop right now! I'm not wearing anything that looks as if you dyed it with the mud dredged from the river!" Every man for whom I've ever made anything ALWAYS asks for things to be colorful, interesting, pleasing in texture and pattern---and, as my late FIL once said, "...colors that make me happy to know you made it just for me because you cared enough to use colors I like."
Hi there! I read the description and it says that it's 20 SC/DC, but when I do the row of DC after the SC, I end up with 19 stitches only. Does that have to do with the stitch skipped at the beginning or do we do another one at the end of the row? Thanks for the help/video! :)
Mujhe sem double colour me jo aapne use kiya hai wo wool chahiye campani bhi vohi sweater k liye to mil sakta hai ... Rate kya hoga usaka aapne jo is video me muffler k liye double colour liya hai sem
Yep! You'll need to do a turning chain with every row. With the double crochet rows that will be 3 chains and with the single crochet rows, just 1 chain is needed. Hope that helps!
Amie Fessler Nope, you can do this with any number of stitches since the way this is formed is just alternating different stitches on the separate rows not within the row itself. Hope that helps!
Can I use size 5 yarn which is bulky? When I tried this the first time the stitches were noticeably uneven. It happened during the turning stitches. Am I supposed to chain every time I turn?
+Dana Williams You can use bulky weight yarn, but you'll need to modify the pattern if you want it to be the same dimensions as mine was. For this pattern, you should do a turning chain every time otherwise you're starting the row at a lower position than the stitches should be. If your turning chains are making the edges too loose, just eliminate a chain and see if that works better for you. :)
Yep, feel free to use other brands. Any worsted weight yarn will work great for this pattern. Even different weights would work too, but you'd have to adjust the pattern quite a bit to get it to be a similar size.
Plz need help can u tell me which method(knitting or crochet)need less wool. Because I have some leftover yarn to do a scarf.thks in advance.waiting your reply. Hugs
This scarf came out just under 70 inches long. Yours might differ due to your tension when crocheting. I will test it for gauge and update the description within the next couple of days. Hopefully that will help you. :) Thanks for watching!
lady j, you can on your first row, but it tends to flip up a bit when it is finished if you don't do the back on the first row. I have not tried this pattern yet, but I have tried both ways on other patterns, and it just makes for a better, sturdier foundation to do it this way.
I started doing this project and noticed that she missed important instructions so I can't complete it!!! when your starting another double crochet row after you just did one do you still chain 3 at the end and beginning of every row????? aggh so annoyed right now
Erica Smith I usually start the new yarn by joining it at point where I'm getting ready to pass the yarn through (that last yo, pull through) of the row. I find that creates a less noticeable transition.
You are picking up/adding stitches at the ends of your rows. Be sure to count and keep the same number of stitches you begin with. You'll have to tear down to the beginning row.
+Dana Williams I usually try to join new yarn at the end of a row. I use the new yarn to finish the last part of the last stitch (so on a DC, the last yarn over, pull through 2). Then I'll weave in the ends at the end. Hope that helps!
You can knit a scarf out of this yarn, but it's not going to look just like this one. The texture will be different of course, but the yarn colors will pool a bit different as well. That isn't a bad thing, but it will be a different result. :)
+zymear I'm sorry that you didn't find this scarf easy to do. Crochet can have a bit of a learning curve. However, the pattern is made with double crochet and single crochet stitches which are some of the most basic crochet stitches. If there is a specific part you are having problems with, let me know and I will see if I can help.

I've been trying to learn how to crochet a man's scarf. Thank you so much. I knit just fine, but crochet is new to me.

Ty for sharing. This will be a perfect gift. I'm already 1/3 of the way done in an hour so it's very quick.

Sweet! I'm just going to alternate single, double, single, double, etc cuz I suck at counting rows.
thank you for going slow. your descriptions were perfect (I'm a beginner crocheter)
I love this. Was looking for an easy pattern for these same colors!
Awesome pattern! Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for sharing, very helpful and easy. I am doing it with the same yarn and hook but mine turns 7inches wide.
I been looking for a great mens scarf. I finally found one.
Mimi Rommelfanger My husband wears his all the time so it definitely works! :)
How would this look with bulky/chunky yarn? And would one still use a K hook (or thereabouts)? Also, can one make it shorter? Thanks.
Excellent tutorial! Thanks!

She adds an extra stitch at the end, so that makes 21
Love the scarf and love the camo one so cool : ) I made my son a camo beanie and wrist warmer to match : ) Love yours thanks for sharing : )
Would one skein (236 yards) of Red Heart Super Saver Fair Isle Print make a nice scarf? Thanks so much. Love the pattern, so easy to follow. :)

kia jewel Thanks!
Thank you. Love this scarf for men. Nice and easy. Do you have a matching pattern for a men's hat?
Beachingfun Not yet! I do have a hat pattern up that is greys and black, but I don't use the same yarn or the same stitch configuration.
CraftingWithClaudie Thank you. I will look for it.
I was wondeeing, when I start that's 2nd double crotchet row, am I suppose to chain three first and then double crotchet or not?
Yep! You'll need to do a turning chain with every row. With the double crochet rows that will be 3 chains and with the single crochet rows, just 1 chain is needed. Hope that helps!
Thank you very much. That's helps alot actually
I'm wanting to make this a bit wider as my yarn isn't quite as bulky as Vanna's Choice, does it matter if there are an even or odd number or stitches?
Amie Fessler Nope, you can do this with any number of stitches since the way this is formed is just alternating different stitches on the separate rows not within the row itself. Hope that helps!

love the men scarf. can you do this in other brands like red heart or caron?
Yep, feel free to use other brands. Any worsted weight yarn will work great for this pattern. Even different weights would work too, but you'd have to adjust the pattern quite a bit to get it to be a similar size.
Plz need help can u tell me which method(knitting or crochet)need less wool. Because I have some leftover yarn to do a scarf.thks in advance.waiting your reply. Hugs
Rosy Ittoo All other factors the same, knitting will take less yarn than crochet. Hope that helps!
Hi, Claudie, I love your Men's scarf, but may I know how much is the length of your Men's scarf? Thanks so much and God bless you.
This scarf came out just under 70 inches long. Yours might differ due to your tension when crocheting. I will test it for gauge and update the description within the next couple of days. Hopefully that will help you. :) Thanks for watching!
Very helpful to me,Thank you .
Perfect! Thank u!!😀
Just wondering do you crochet into every turning chain on every row not clear about that
Yep, you do work into the turning chain every row. Hope that helps!
I really want to make this scarf but you do your single crochet under and backward. Is that necessary? Can't you do it regular?
lady j, you can on your first row, but it tends to flip up a bit when it is finished if you don't do the back on the first row. I have not tried this pattern yet, but I have tried both ways on other patterns, and it just makes for a better, sturdier foundation to do it this way.
Thank you ^^. You help me a lot.
+khuyên vũ Happy to help!
need clearer instructions at the end of the 1st and 2nd DC rows ... its not clear where to chain the last DC.
👍Well explain,Manly yarn/will make
Than U!
is the yarn softer
Thank you so much for the tutorial, im a beginer ;)
how do you add the new yarn?
I started doing this project and noticed that she missed important instructions so I can't complete it!!! when your starting another double crochet row after you just did one do you still chain 3 at the end and beginning of every row????? aggh so annoyed right now
I'm left handed would you have this tutorial for left handed
What kind of yarn did you use here? Is this cotton?
I believe so!😀
I want to make one with three colors, How do you switch colors?
Erica Smith I usually start the new yarn by joining it at point where I'm getting ready to pass the yarn through (that last yo, pull through) of the row. I find that creates a less noticeable transition.
Nice
My Scarf keeps getting wider with every new line. Any idea why? and how to fix it?
You are picking up/adding stitches at the ends of your rows. Be sure to count and keep the same number of stitches you begin with. You'll have to tear down to the beginning row.
thank you very much
How do I add the new yarn?
+Dana Williams I usually try to join new yarn at the end of a row. I use the new yarn to finish the last part of the last stitch (so on a DC, the last yarn over, pull through 2). Then I'll weave in the ends at the end. Hope that helps!
CraftingWithClaudie yesss super
why do you go into the stich backwards?
Hazel Hammond I was wondering the same thing! Made me go hmmm...
What size yarn is that? a 4 ?
PWells23 Yep, it's a 4, medium, worsted weight.
mmmmm k ! thankkkss .. ;)
Can this be knitted? That's probably a really ignorant question but I'm a guy so go figure..
You can knit a scarf out of this yarn, but it's not going to look just like this one. The texture will be different of course, but the yarn colors will pool a bit different as well. That isn't a bad thing, but it will be a different result. :)
CraftingWithClaudie Cool beans! Thanks for the reply! (^.^)
