People don't need punishment. They need freedom. Any system that offers a safe way or place to experience life in a healthier or more realistic way is going to help. SMART recovery is empowering. So far I do not sense any symptoms of "cult" like practice which is very good!

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, REBT and CPT have enabled me to define and to challenge the ideas and beliefs about myself and the world, those ingrained ideas which are the root causes for my destructive feelings and behaviors. CBT is not easy. Rather, it is f-ing hard! But, the effects are real and the tangible and liberating and empowering. I think that if a person is interested in standing up on their own two feet, and are willing to face the pain of looking their horrific demons in the face, the rational approach of SMART and CBT will not only change their lives, they will find control of their lives in their own laps again. And, maybe, for the first time. Good luck to all those who are on a journey in recovery from addiction. Of course, there's a battle between the atheist and religious. I think that "how" one find's sobriety isn't as important as "did" they find sobriety- which makes their lives happier and is not an loud-mouthed threat against another's path to happiness.

Odd. I got a call thanking me for a post. I have no idea but it's cool. Maybe a strong opinion about programs. I told everyone I'm full of it till I arrest my pot thing. Its legal here. I hate it and grumble about my stupidity. I was on a dry drunk so it's said. No I had deep trauma I didn't know about. It gave me a one two punch 45 years later. Laying dormant. I kinda study it from a don Francis CDC style the way one studies Epidimology I guess. Untreated both maladies can be life threatening. I loved the twelve step progrsm. The fellowship is not the program. Its only a small part. But I had been doing the stepwork after a hoot. It doesn't work even the major amends work. Its in my eyes I'm not there. And baffling I was able to never be short of romance until there was too much demand from the dangerous borderline.

"Unless you admit you are a damaged, dysfunctional, helpless, ignorant diseased loser and declare your HIGHER POWER to be in control of your life and attend AA meetings for the rest of your life you will FAIL!!"

Coffee is actually good for your liver. Being 'addicted ' to it is not a bad thing. SMaRT recovery has little evidence it works.

I'm sober. Which is all the evidence I need.
