    I was about to pull the trigger on the 9500 but saw the 9600 on sale for the same price. Given that I prefer more bass and not as harsh treble, I decided to go for the 9600. No regrets whatsoever, it’s pretty good especially for the discounted price I got it for.

    Ive always viewed the SHP9600 as its own thing more than a "revision" or "upgrade" of the 9500 and that they aren't easily comparable, and that Phillips should've marketed the 9600 differently.
    they're a pretty good relaxed headphone for just enjoying anything in my opinion, meanwhile the 9500 is up there in the sound style of the HD600's and all those other airy neutral headphones.
    But hey that's the beauty of headphones/music, its all subjective and everyone is free to enjoy what they enjoy!

      @@HomeStudioBasics I would prefer stronger high frequencies as at my age I am somewhat deficient in the area of the female voice. I can adjust this with equalization, my comments are with the EQ off. Other than that the sound is well balance. The headset is very comfortable, zero complaints here. Build quality is pretty good for this price range. I especially like (and this was one of the reasons for my choice) that the earcups and headband lack that cheap fake leather that invariably starts to disintegrate over time. I'm not sure how I feel about the open diaphragm design, I am more used to the closed style (apart from an excellent pair of Sennheiser headphone that I had over 30 years ago).

    Hello! i am currently debating whether to go for 9500 or 9600 but have no idea on audiophile terms as i have just started looking into headphones that are good for music. I have always used basic cheap gaming headphones and since my streaming mic is now seperate, i wanted to give myself the chance to try out headphones for music listening. I don't really know what bass/treble is, but the music i generally listen to are kpop/pop/lo-fi and i game a lot. Based on those uses what would you recommend? 9500 or the 9600?

    I don't have much money and bought the 9600 knowing I'd be locked in for a good while and honestly I felt the bass was too pronounced for my particular taste. After listening to some familiar music I don't like the way they sound out of the box. Then I found Wavelet for Android and set the autoeq to this model of headphones. It vastly improved the sound of the 9600s. I obviously don't recommend this to anyone that can just get another set of headphones, but for anyone like me they made these headphones not a waste of money.

    SHP9500s have still been my favorite set of cans for over 3 years. Even when compared to the 50+ cans ie owned throught life from $200-$700 and all the ones ive listened to from Buddies in the Music Industry. i think thats why I bought have 4 more pairs when they were on sale for $45 bucks year. Right now they are a steal at $60 for Cyber Monday. Sadly not enough people will be snaggin' them up for that price. Its rare to find Speakers, IEMS and Great Cans that Punch way above their weight and price range time and time again for such a long stretch of years amomg all newer "newer" innovations, massive price drops on great headphones, and what not. I know newer isnt always better since most things are built as cheap as possible and alot of us wont stfu about how superior all the old audio eqpuipment from the 50s-60s-70s is, lol. But anyways, I wouldnt call myself an Audiophile since It heavily corralates to being akin to a wine connoisseur snob, but maybe im just being dramtic. I Just love everything Audio. The chase of new knowledge, the challenge of researching and finding the best quality Audio equipment for the money, where that upward climbing line of Quality starts to drastically change and the deminising returns start to fall flat, and when it does, its usually immediate. It's definitely always different when it everything in between bookshelves, home theatred, loudspeaker venue systems, etc) on what the. But, I would consider myself very confident with my knowledge surround Audio in general over my experience being a Musician, Producer, Rccording/Mixing Engineer, and Mastering.
    Ive built tons of custom bookshelf and tower speakers that were all based off the Driver selection and measurements. Also built a few Custom Guitar Cabinets. I used the proper software and math to get the best results needed from the Drivers, Cabinets, and schematics needed to build the crossovers accordingly. Ive never stopped experimenting with new way to record audio, modifyng amps, etc). Ive used probably a 100+ different mics over the years since I always experiment with so many mic configurations when ever I was recording guitars, vocals, drums, etc) at the Studio I apprentived in and long after into my own Recording Studio and Audio Solution Consulting work. Ive designed and built countless acoustic treatments and audio systems for damn near every type of environment. Bars, school auditoriums, venue halls, Concerts, home theaters, and yadahdahdah. Its weird to reflect back on how many different avenues of Audio ive had my head in and how different yet the same apart they are from eachother in most way. Useless ramble over, Go buy some SHP9500s. Hurry.

      @@HomeStudioBasics I'm just curious how close I can get the headphone to the 9500 without dropping another Grant and a Jackson. I really like the stock tuning for movies and games (single-player only) because they remove the hi-mid "honk" you get in neutral tuning, and the bass response combined with the soundstage is impressive. But the recessed mids is a double-edged sword because it can make music sound very veiled and blurry.

      @@adrianmorrish8494 In theory, the 560S would be perfect for him but it's just, meh. It has more bass, sure, and the treble has a bit of sparkle, but it still ends up sounding boring to me. Idk. If you're going to go for that type of sound sig, you need to really take your pants off AND pull your boxers down and just let it all hang out (i.e. A meze 99 classic). I would say K371 but he wants sparkle and that just won't really cut it. It's a bit too dark-ish.

    If possible, I think having a desktop mic (something like a blue yeti, or the many similar mics that are out now) helps a lot with the gaming issue. In general, these mics are going to sound a million times better than anything attached to your headphones. On top of that, they allow you to use any headphone you like without having to consider the mic. For chatting, the mic can be pretty far away from you and still sound pretty good, and paired with RTX Voice even sensitive mics can filter out 98% of your background noise.
    Glad to hear your opinion on the 9600. It's one I never picked up. I had given my 9500 to my daughter and she's used it for the past year or so. She recently moved to the Creative Aurvana Live, and says she likes it a lot better. Similarly priced headphone. I'm inclined to agree with her. Listening to the 9500 again, I just really don't dig the treble that much anymore on it, especially for music. I can't help but compare everything to the KPH30i, which, even though the 9500 is considered a budget headphone, is still a fraction of that price.
    Recommending a headphone under $100 to someone isn't an easy thing to do anymore. Tons of good options, especially if you throw in IEMs.

      Understandable, some feel the 9500 top end a bit shrill so a warmer more relaxed sound could well be more appealing to a casual listener.

    • @HomeStudioBasics
      @HomeStudioBasics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah man, for console gaming I personally like to have the Boom Pro on my couch, but for desktop, yeah. The Yeti is what I would use easily over that. All three of those you mention are in the Budget Kings heh. And yeah, I finally dethroned 9500 from the top spot and replaced it with the 30i. It’s not just about mic quality though. I do have a desk mic at the moment but I realized when I’m simply playing video games and talking to my friends, I don’t need to sound like a twitch streamer with the best audio setup of all, the great sound quality of the vmoda boom pro is more than enough. It saves me desk space, saves a cable, a USB port and not having a huge microphone in my face. To each his own but that’s just my opinion. I would use a desk mic for streaming though.

    I tried the x2hr and the 9600 together for 3 weeks, I am still using my shp9600, x2hr went back trebble was not to my loki g or to be honest the bass although it was more resolving. The 9600's mids resolution isn't brilliant but I really enjoy listening to them, the bass is plenty for me the soundstage is above average to good and they are easy to drive, light and reasonably comfortable although I do get some upper cheekbone clamping mild discomfort even after 3 months of using several times a week. I haven't listened to the review yet, I haven't tried the 9500's and my experience with multiple headphones is limited to only 2 open backs these and the 6xx's I own.
