Australian countertenor Max Riebl died at the age of 30.
The news comes four days after the singer took to Facebook to notify his fans that he has incurable cancer. He said, ” Hundreds of solo shows around the world. Orchestras, Operas, Renaissance ensembles, Evensong, cabaret and theatre. Spectacular venues. Thousands of hours of practice, radio interviews, photoshoots, extraordinary musicians. Hundreds of hours of travel, uncountable pieces learned and sung. Dozens of competitions. Thunderous applause. Silence and contemplation. Recording sessions. Sleepless nights. Hotel rooms. Loneliness. Laughter. After parties. Tension. Freedom. Bach, Monteverdi, Vivaldi and all things contemporary. Airports. Sacrifice. Sets, costumes, suits worn to a thread and stained with sweat. Difficult to quantify. Difficult to comprehend. An intense, unbearable and mesmeric series of experiences and memories. Some of the greatest and most honorable people I have known. You know who you are and I’ll never forget you.”
He continued, “To those unaware, I have been diagnosed with an incurable cancer. The fight has been brutal and relentless and current symptoms make performing and touring impossible at this time. Nothing is set in stone, miracles happen, but for now, thank you for your support, your kindness and appreciation. May the music go on and may the musicians of Australia continue in their brave pursuits, against the odds. With Love. Max”

I thought Klaus Nomi gave the defining version of this song and then watched and heard this. Words cannot describe how it effected me. And then, reading the comments, I learned that he has gone.
This is the best performance of The Cold Song since Klaus Nomi, they are both no longer with us.

Oh God! I'm speechless, I can't believe it! I found this stunning version with a fantastic voice and interpretation and now I know he's no longer with us... Honour to him and keep shining🙏🙏❤
I've just been down a real rabbit hole with this song and heard tons of versions. This vocalisation is definitely one of the best. If only, because he makes the words comprehensible. Too many go for form & lose that.

Oh my goodness! what a compelling performance, what a superb voice and beautiful singing. How I wish I had been to a live performance of this artist, and just this week he has passed away. A telling song for him, a funeral elegy.

The first time I heard this song, was by the amazing Klaus Nomi. This is just as great.
Wondrous version. Coming here after finding out that this great countertenor passed away a few days ago, 4-30-22, at only 30 years old. He had been fighting inoperable cancer.

There are literally dozens of memorable performance of this 17th century masterpiece by Henry Purcell. Klaus Noemi’s perfs are especially poignant because he was dying of AIDS.

the laughs thant came from people are from a crowd that have no culture or wish of that at all! the score goes differently.. for the piano! the voice is wonderfull!

This is Klaus Nomi’s song. NO ONE Can perform it like him and NO ONE should try.
It's Purcell's "song". He didn't write it for only Klaus Nomi to sing 300 years later, I'm pretty sure.
