  • Christie hand flies the entire family and dog in a Vans RV10 to the Outer Banks for a great fourth of July weekend with family and friends. Crossing over Quantico, Mallows Bay, Norfolk, and finally the Outer Banks. A smooth 1 hour and 7 minute flight beats the 5+ hours of I95 holiday traffic! We sure are going to miss the plane in the Fall when it goes in for paint. The flight home was a little more eventful with a forecast that changed to Thunderstorms while we were in flight.
This is a Van RV 10 that has an Aerosport Products overhead console and panel. South Florida Sport Aviation Seats. Lycoming Thunderbolt Engine with FlyEFII System32 ignitions. Garmin G3x, GTN650 GTX45R, etc Avionics. Aveo Zip Tips. In the fall our number is up for some Evoke paint!

Great copilot and the dog seems to be doing great in the plane. Don’t know how my dogs would behave flying.

Just curious what kind of control grips those are. I’m a fellow builder. Finishing up the wings and gonna be starting on my fuselage soon. Hoping to go to OSH and have my grocery list ready for when I get there

How do you capture the radios and intercom audio?

I just use a standard y-type cable on the pilot headphone plug. I plug that into my iphone and record with voice memo. There are a bunch of ways to do it, but I always have my phone with me so that is what I tend to use. (www.sportys.com/nflightcam-iphone-intercom-audio-interface-cable.html)

13:22. That right there to the left is the James River Bridge. My girlfriend's house, where I was at the time, is just off to the right. A couple streets down from that large shopping mall with the big roof. You flew right overhead! Insane haha.

I promise to do one soon. I am waiting for a good IFR day to really show it in its element.

She does a very nice job hand flying it maintaining straight and level. I like the trim tabs on the yoke.

We rarely use roll trim if you switch tanks every 30 min. Pitch gets used a little more for takeoff/landing/climb/descent. Mine are on the panel with a pitch trim enable switch. I don’t want a runaway with our big trim tabs!

I love that the parents have on parachutes, but what about the kids and the cute puppy?

I promise I'm only trying to help, but:
I hate, hate, hate split controls (I'll take the rudder, you take the stick).
It makes you less likely to notice control problems, and it can cause confusion if a time-sensitive emergency occurs.

I do not disagree with you in most cases. But two things (1) there was no doubt in that cockpit that I was PIC, in the event of an emergency the plane was definitely mine. (2) Giving the rudders to a non-pilot person whom cannot reach the rudders due to height on a 305 HP RV does not seem like a better idea than what we had done.

      305hp okay.
