My Sister we didn't start afrobeats pls. Let's give credit where it is due. The form of Afrobeats that is popular at the moment is Nigerian afrobeats which you and I know is quite different from what we do here. We started highlife which has some elements of it in todays afrobeats and that is how somehow we also have our own form of afrobeats because we have a lot in common that makes up what we term as afrobeats ie pidgin, highlife including the use of our local languages and also merger of some foreign sounds like hip-hop, rnb funk, pop etc. Thats how come we both do afrobeats. But we all know that the form that is most popular currently is what the Nigerians are doing and we can't claim any of that because it's sourced from their own language culture and their way of doing things etc even though it sometimes has some traces of our music in it which is highlife.

The only issue I have with this is the fact that, they have appropriated black culture for decades to create what we now know as kpop, now they’re onto afrobeat. Yet the racism towards black people there is on another level. Like this songs would be played in clubs where blacks aren’t even allowed in Korea. It’s the irony for me. Take the part of the culture that benefits them but want nothing to do with the people who own the culture. Plus most of them don’t even give credit. Like that guy that literally used wizkids lyric word for word without giving credit.🤦🏽, same with Jesse or what’s her name.

Africans often remix music from other cultures.
There's a Nigerian Afro beat remix of the Squid Game songs & some Indian songs. Arabians remixed 1 of Lil Nas' music.
Music is universal and "letting" other nations use tunes we're known for is NOT us throwing our identity away. It's us being humans without general hate which your comment is encouraginghttps.
And if you read any piece of history you'd know guns stole the lands in the past. Military might ppl couldn't fight against when they came armed with canons.
Not Kindness to be accepted. That's the stupidest thing I've read today. Don't use that shit as an excuse to generalise & normalise gatekeeping.
