The players were banned from the Saturday. The club saw a loophole and asked for the switch to Friday. The league approved it, so it was their fault for not checking the details. Elgin went by the letter of the law and the league messed up
I stayed with John and his family in 1982 whilst he was at Wolves, he took me to Hampden Park to watch Scotland v England also the same trip. Great bloke, great family
In 1994 the Scottish Football League had their second “great reconstruction” which turned 12-12-14 into 10-10-10-10 and two vacancies were created. 5 clubs applied to join the SFL and Elgin was one of them. They lost out to Ross County and Caley Thistle and it was thought at the time that their “cheating” of the Highland League in 1993 cost them election to the new Third Division.
Tried to cheat their way to the title. The best bit is, if they didn't play the 2 players due a suspension, they would have won the league. Cheats should never win
Elgin City F.C. - The Title We Never Won | A View from the Terrace 1610pm 10.10.24 heads bowed the crowd used to leave the ground bemused racked with remorse for things done in the past's past.... but to whom....? who the hell have we offended they used to skrike as their heads bowed even lower to the ground.... the staff equally racked with wondersome notions about the future.... 'have you lost something?' was the cry..... as away fan A enquired of his defeated foe useless fan B. 'my marbles, if this is anything to go by'. such was the mirth of a team i have never visited but should.
That's a sporting travesty, that league title should be reinstated to Elgin City and the players given their medals. At worst Elgin City used the rules to their advantage.

no complaints in 2000 when they were given league membership after finishing 9th in the Highland League

Making the season null and void was ridiculous though. It meant it was all a waste of everybody's time.
Why did you get rid of the pillbox. The most unique thing I've ever seen at a football ground
I went to school with Chris Gardiner, who played for Elgin City from 2005-2007 🏴
They got caught bonnie. Nice try by Teasdale though!
It definitely was a which hunt.
