Too Bad the Gixxer 1100 Wasn't Eligible to Race, Would have liked to see it Head to Head with the FZR Genesis! I Love my Slabbies but think the Yamaha might have had the Advantage with Equal Riders! Michael Dowson would have Won no matter what Bike he was On! Imho -Cheers👍🍻
@@purebloodheretic4682 It was eligible to race in open class production here in NZ, the FZR1000 was the bike to be on after it came out, it won the last 2 Castrol 6 hours here in 87 and 88.
@@uhtred7860 I Guess NZ Racing was More Lenient the '86 GSX-r1100 Exceeded the 1000cc Capacity by 52cc, They Raced @ Iom TT 1300cc Production Race unti after the Tragic 1989 TT when Phil Mellor & 2 others died, & Officials pulled the Pin on Big Bore's over 1000cc - Didn't Slow the Bikes Anyhow!👍🍻
@@purebloodheretic4682 Yeah the 1000cc limit wasn't a thing here, Suzuki was the market leader in sales here in the 70 and 80s and were heavily involved in proddy racing, so much so that they built a special homologation Katana for racing in NZ. The GSX1100SXZ Katana "Wire-Wheeler", basically a 1100 Katana with a host of tuning parts on it, carbs, cams, lighter wire wheels, uprated brakes etc, so Suzuki had a chance against the CB1100R. I remember those crashes on the 1100s at the IOM, it was what gave the K model its bad handling reputation. As far as GSX-R1100s go, for me, the slabbies were the best, and they went downhill from there. Sure the later ones had that awesome 1127 engine but they got heavier and heavier (the whole point of the GSX-R was the lack of weight) and they lost something.
How did Dowson have a FZR1000 when they weren't sold until 87? Connections at Yamaha maybe. I wonder if anyone had a whinge about him being on a production bike that the public couldn't yet buy. (ok the commentator just mentioned something about it @ 2:34)
Yep, it was actually one of the very first bikes in the production line and was sent to Yamaha Australia just before they went on sale for Dowson to ride.
This is my favourite era for bikes, ive got an 86 GSX-R1100 and a 87 FZR1000 :-)

Nice one Andrew ! thanks
That was cool no gpz,9s thow, it would have been better if they let the gsxr 1100s in . I reckon that was around the time modern superbikes started.
Thanks:-)
Andrew this is last you got from 1986 ?
