Just so you know, Larnell Lucas, Edit: Lewis on drums, wasn't a regular member of the band at the time. Their regular drummer, Sput had a passport issue making it so he couldn't make this gig, so Larnell had to learn the songs in something like 3 days IIRC. The fact that he was able to keep up as hard as he did with Cory's mostly improvised solo is insane.

YES! You did the Puppy! I don’t know anyone else who has done a reaction to SP. Glad it was you. This extremely talented group of of musicians are all about playing for the love of it. It’s a joyous rabbit hole should you decide to go down it.
Finally!! Snarky Puppy is incredible man, definitely a band that musicians tend to flock to. Just insane musical ability and really good composing. The bass player, Michael League, is the band leader and composer for many if not most of SP's music. The final product is always a crazy collaborative effort from all these super talented musicians, but League plays a big part in how well-written many of these songs are. Fun fact, the drummer Larnell Lewis was brought in at the very last minute to fill in for SP's usual drummer, Robert "Sput" Searight (though he's sat in with SP a few times on tours). He basically learned all of the songs in the span of a few hours, then performed them live all week. "After a last moment call, Larnell arrived the next day at Amsterdam airport at 7:00 am. Heading straight for the studio to set up the drums, having an intense and sped up rehearsal session in the afternoon, and locking the nine tracks to be recorded for the dvd that very same evening. An enormous achievement considering the recordings covered four days: from Monday until Thursday with two shows a night, all being recorded for the upcoming Snarky Puppy dvd."
Reminds me a lot of Tower of Power. I played trombone in my high school band and our band director loved all the old jazz/funk from the 60s and 70s. This is generally how a Snarky Puppy concert goes down. It's insane talent. The solos played by Chris on saxophone and Cory on keys were improvised on the spot. In concert the musicians don't know who is soloing until a few bars before they play when Michael League gives them the nod. Keeps it fresh and exciting from show to show. Catch them live, it will change you.
YEEEEESSASS YOU ARE THE MAN FOR THIS THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! Please check out “What About Me,” “Shofukan,” “Outlier,” by them and please please check out Snarky Puppy and Lalah Hathaway (Donny’s daughter) doing a song called “Something.” I guarantee that you will be amazed by this group!
This song is soooo bad ass. The interplay between Larnell and Corey is phenom. Even Corey’s buddy’s reaction says it all. Jamel your reactions throughout the song are straight up on point...”Bring it on bring it on...give me more.” This song is one to introduce to any music aficionado... it is balls out jamming. My buddy magic Mike in Ojai, CA turned me on to this one and I just keep paying it forward.
The song "Sleeper" from them would be my next recommendation. Shaun Martin (the keyboard player next to Corey) is featured pretty prominently and it's absolutely incredible.
Incredible bit of info: at the time of this recording this actual piece was completely new to the band. They only got a rudimentary score a few days ahead and had like 2 days of rehearsal (not only this tune but an album worth of it) and do the arrangements. Actually, the drummer arrived on the day of the first show (they recorded several live shows). IIRC, this was recorded at the second show.
The first time I heard this was them performing live at the Art Of Cool Festival in NC. After their performance I was an instant fan. The album this is on is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 from start to finish.
Jamel gets it ha ha. First time I saw this, I couldn't breath. sweating, goosebumps. everything. Didn't think this level of achievement was possible. The drummer is a monster and Cory Henry goes somewhere I wanna go when his hands are on the keys. There is hope for humanity after all. Amen.
So glad you did this song! When Cory started his solo and you were smiling, I thought, “J has no idea what’s coming. He has no concept of how hard he’s about to get hit! He’s about to have the stankiest of all stank faces.” Your reaction did not disappoint. lol

There is definitely more! "Thing of Gold", "Sleeper", "Outlier", much more! Then they get with Metropol Orchest adding way more instruments and play in a different direction with songs like "The Kite" and "The Curtain". They also play with a bunch of guest singers like Layla Hathaway. Snarky Puppy is a rabbit hole, enjoy the fall!
You so much joy in your reaction, made me feel like I was hearing it for the first time again. Thank you sir. Also loved the way you said "uh oh" before the solo really kicekd off.. my thoughts exactly
Also if you like this check out Return to Forever. This was one of the first super jazz fusion groups formed in the late 70's. It was Chic Cora, Lenny White, Stanley Clarke and Al Di Meola. Another good one is Weather Report. Jaco was beast on fretless bass. Gone to soon

Thanks to whomever suggested this. So hard to keep up on everything out there. Never heard of this ensemble before but so reminiscent of 70s jazz fusion. Very tasty.

Jambone
Sintra - Flight- Atchafalaya (with metropole orchest)
Mr. Montauk
But basically all their songs are really dope so... 🤷❤️
Anne-Aurélie Goulet Raymond don’t forget sleeper with Shaun Martin on the talk box
@@Ian-oe9xn yeah I just didn't wanted to list all the song cauz it would be too long. I just wanted to suggest some but obviously all others than that are highly recommended too !
The Curtain
This is generally how a Snarky Puppy concert goes down. It's insane talent. The solos played by Chris on saxophone and Cory on keys were improvised on the spot. In concert the musicians don't know who is soloing until a few bars before they play when Michael League gives them the nod. Keeps it fresh and exciting from show to show. Catch them live, it will change you.
Snarky puppy will change your damn life! ESPECIALLY if you’re a musician. Lifeblood
god almighty... watching this with you again... so great and our reactions are both -- AMAZED! !!!
First time I've seen or heard this group. Wowee!!! Love me a good jazz band.
Lalah is sublime. As was Donny.
"This is what heaven must look like... for music..."
I couldnt have said it better! This is Gold! Snarky puppy are straight fire!
SUCH GOOD MUSIC, such great musicians! AND SO FUNKY!
Thank you for the introduction to this act. Great stuff.
The audience listening to the mix on headphones is pretty damn innovative.
Watching you watch this......something new...different...fresh....right out the oven...fresh out the kitchen. This is entertainment.
He’s about to have the stankiest of all stank faces.” Your reaction did not disappoint. lol
Snarky puppy is so good! You gotta see them live.
Snarky puppy are super talented.. If you want to hear something a little on the crazy side but with similar spirit. Checkout "trioscapes"... maybe digital dream sequence
When I heard the name of the band I thought it was going to be songs for little kids then I heard this. I was shocked that was great. Shot out to the band. Thank You for showing this. Shot out to you. Keep showing the great videos brother. Lovering it. Nothing but love for the channel. Good work my brother
Jamel, you said epic!, and couldn’t agree with you more!
I’ve been a musician all my life and love all forms of music, and these guy’s are just phenominal.
Thanks for posting,
Nicky, Far Past Dark
Just 2 minutes in knowing he's gonna lose his mind when that keyboard solo hits!
Great musicians! I have all their stuff. Glad you enjoyed their music! Keyboards solo is one of the best ever.
Keyboards/Cory Henry: Checkout Cory Henry and Funk Apostles.
Check out Snarky Puppy Family Diiner 1&2
Drummer is Larnell Lewis
Snarky! Hell ya! You get to see the day of Lingus. Welcome to music after Snarky Puppy. It’s wonderful.
One of the finest bands EVER on the PLANET 🌎
Love your channel 🙏
Cory Henry on Keyboards he’s a beast
Goosebumps is the exact right response. Snarky puppy will do it to ya everytime!
This song gives me chills, even after listening for like the 1000th time.
This was the video that made me a fan...now I have all their music, go see them live!
Jaco was a beast on any bass he played! definitely an innovator on fretless though, great recommendations on both accounts!!
Lets not forget Mahavishnu Orchestra
Yes! Return to Forever on my Spotify list!
I saw Al DiMeola live about 20 yrs ago. Cool dude and freakin shreads it.
Snarky puppy is basically the children of steely Dan, rush, Alan Parsons, tower of power, Herbie Hancock and weather report
Lamont Taylor introduced me to Gospel C***s, rhymes with bops, before I knew what Gospel C****s were. And shout out to my favorite tenor saxophone player Bob Reynolds.
Thanks to whomever suggested this. So hard to keep up on everything out there. Never heard of this ensemble before but so reminiscent of 70s jazz fusion.
Very tasty.
