  • BlackSeaRC presents a second video featuring the new WPL E-1 (or E1) 1:16 scale radio-controlled tracked vehicle. In this video, the E-1 is subjected to performance trials that are conducted on ice, cross-country and deep snow.
    About the E-1:
    The E-1 is the first model in the new long-awaited E-Series. It joins the existing B-Series (4x4 and 6x6 wheeled military vehicles), C-Series (4x4 crawlers) and D-Series (4x2 commercial vehicles and micro cars).
    This product comes almost-ready-to-run (ARTR) but requires the installation of some detail parts for completion. In the first video in this series, we looked at the following:
    - Introduction to WPL (Naughty Dragon) and their existing model series
    - Unboxing the E-1 with an overview of contents
    - Look at the loose detail parts and how to install
    - Detailed look at completed vehicle
    - Development history of real vehicle with interesting facts
    - Close-up look at the RC handset and its features
    - Functional checks
    - Performance testing (indoor and off-road)
    You can check the full review video here:
    • WPL E-1 1:16 Scale RC ...
    NOTE: One important detail to note is that although the manufacturer claims this product is 1:16 scale, a review of the dimensions indicates that this model is in fact somewhere between 1:18 and 1:19 scale. This is of particular interest if you are planning to use this RC vehicle in association with other products (e.g. military truck and transport trailer) and want to maintain accurate scale realism. It is also relevant to know if selecting a driver figure to fit in the cab.
    The E-1 is not a licensed product but is based on a real vehicle, the Soviet GT-SM (GAZ-71) or "ГТ-СМ (ГАЗ-71)" in Russian. It is not a tank but a non-armoured, fully-amphibious tracked transport vehicle. In the video, we look at the interesting history of the GT-SM, which is a derivative of the very first Soviet tracked transport vehicle. It started life as the GPI-S-20 prototype and then entered mass production as the GT-S (GAZ-47). In the 1960's the Soviet Union was developing large areas of the Far North and Far East of Russia. A new more capable vehicle was required so the GT-S was comprehensively modernised and became the GT-SM (GAZ-71). The full name is "Caterpillar-tracked Transporter - Snow and swamp vehicle Modernized". It was mass produced for 17 years between 1968 and 1985. This vehicle proved to be indispensable and earned legendary status amongst all those who used them. As well as having excellent mobility (including being fully amphibious), it was extremely rugged and reliable. It was designed to be operated in temperatures between -50 and +40 degrees Celsius. It was used for a multitude of applications including exploration, geology, surveying, oil and gas pipelines, road building, power engineering, etc. A substantial number of the original vehicles are still in service today. A direct derivative of the GT-SM (GAZ-71) is still in production today, designated GAZ-34039 and produced at the ZZGT factory. Furthermore, there are numerous manufacturers offering upgrade packages for the GT-SM as well as new vehicles based on the original well-proven design.
    In future videos, BlackSeaRC shall look at E-1 upgrade options and present some interesting ideas for customisation.

    It looks as if the E-1 can be a lot of fun as long as the snow isn't too deep. I know that really this model is designed for indoor use but I'm sure a lot of owners use them outside as well.

    • @BlackSeaRC
      @BlackSeaRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The manufacturer does not advise this model to be used outdoors but really this tracked transport vehicle is not much fun if you just drive it on a flat surface inside. The real vehicle (GT-SM) is specifically designed as an over-snow vehicle. The E-1 started off well on the ice but then snow started to build up around the rear guide wheels. As soon as the groove filled with ice the tracks wouldn't rotate. It needs a little scraper attachment fitted to clear the groove and then it would be fine.

      @@BlackSeaRC I wonder if the optional metal tracks would help in these conditions?

    • @BlackSeaRC
      @BlackSeaRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NorthSeaRC They might do, yes, because the drive sprocket is also different. It might run better in deep snow if the metal sprocket doesn't clog up as much.

    This seems to be a great little model for the price but I wish WPL had spent a little more and made the suspension better. The choice of tracked vehicles is rather limited if you don't want a proper tank.

    • @BlackSeaRC
      @BlackSeaRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you there. I was always interested in the Kyosho Blizzard and Trail King tracked vehicles as these are true hobby grade machines. There are also some custom "Ripsaw" type vehicles but these are very expensive.

    I think it needs a bit more suspension support , I really love this model , also nice shots

    • @BlackSeaRC
      @BlackSeaRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this model has some nice details but it also has some disadvantages. The suspension is very basic and relies on metal torsion springs for wheel movement. In reality these are too stiff and the suspension doesn't hardly move unless there is weight added to the cargo bay. It would be great if the suspension moved properly as it would really help it when driving in rough conditions.

      @@BlackSeaRC and is their a way to upgrade it??? I guess their is no perfect rc car 😅

    • @BlackSeaRC
      @BlackSeaRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hwroadbeasts I read that some people have tried removing the torsion springs and bending them to a slightly different shape and this helps a little bit but other than this, I don't think it is easily upgradable. That is the trouble with such a simple design, there is really no opportunity to change much. Ha, I am still searching for that elusive perfect RC car!

      @@hwroadbeasts I prefer that as well but this is a low cost RC model so you can't expect too much (it cost me the equivalent of less than 40 USD).

    I like all the technical details you insert via txt. And your music is always on par killer stuff. Im curious to see mods and upgrades on this E1 to make it faster, more robust and water proof. You showed me a good tip by filling the bed with change to get suspension action. I plan to buy one soon.
    How do you think it would compare to the sg ripsaw?

    • @BlackSeaRC
      @BlackSeaRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments Chris. Yes, the E-1 is an interesting little machine. It is quite bouncy though because the torsion springs are a little stiff. I reckon in the future WPL might offer some metal parts for this product such as wheels and suspension arms. They already have the metal tracks/drive sprockets and everyone seems to agree that this is an essential upgrade (if a little bit pricey). Adding a weight in the cargo area helps but off course all the extra weight does then put extra stress on the motors and driveline. It also would likely prohibit amphibious use as the hull sits very low in the water anyway.
      Mine was out of action for a while as I lost one of the tiny screws that holds on the front drive sprockets. Be aware of this. They can easily fall out and really require threadlocking in place. The screw is M2 and it is not easy to find a replacement!
      I think waterproofing the electrics is a good modification to make. I really should make the next part of the video showing this. The circuit board is rather exposed on this model (well it is hidden inside the hull but not in a case).
      As for the SG 1203 Ripsaw, I would note that it is a larger scale (1:12) and also quite a bit faster than the E-1. This is in keeping with the real vehicles as the Howe & Howe machine is very fast whereas the GT-SM/GAZ-71 is a slow-speed workhorse.

    I may try to add studs in the small holes on the rubber tracks. Maybe some small screws the are cut and sharpened.

    • @BlackSeaRC
      @BlackSeaRC  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was originally planning to buy the metal track upgrade because it seems to offer quite a few advantages. However, I also like the idea of fully amphibious use and I think the heavier tracks would cause an issue.

    • @KennethLathamTO
      @KennethLathamTO 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BlackSeaRC True, it may sink. I feel also that if the tank was to be used in the snow and water consistently the pins between the track may rust and freeze up. Even just the cold snow might be too much where the tracks don't want to move that well.

    • @BlackSeaRC
      @BlackSeaRC  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@KennethLathamTO I know what you mean. At that small scale, the pins can easily seize up due to tight tolerances on the parts.

    That model was very promising. When I was testing it one motor got burned because something blocked tracks and I can't find a new one for replacement

    • @BlackSeaRC
      @BlackSeaRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have seen the type 130 motors on the WPL website (but they seem to be sold as a pair) and you would think they would be fairly easy to find on AliExpress since they originate in China. However, I had a quick look and didn't see anything obvious as often they are sold in a set along with the gearbox. During the testing in the snow, one of my tracks came off. I didn't notice immediately but I put the track back on and then spotted the outer drive sprocket on the ground. Unfortunately, the tiny screw holding it on was lost. The question is where to find such a tiny replacement screw now?!

      Hey elon it was fun watching your rocket go boom today. In all honesty why would one want to impersonate elon musk. Dude is a loon with a over salivating problem that makes him appear to have an eternal bloody lip or lipstick like Vladimir poopin.
      And he is an insult to Nikola Tesla who is a true inventor. Before the automobile was big, Nikola was trying to transport ppl via teleportation from a point to a plotted destination instantly. Much like the device he made in the historical fiction movie "the Prestige" in which David Bowie perfectly portrays Tesla.
