I would say the main thing we low German mennonites have to improve is to be more open emotionally. I’ve lived my entire life in a Mennonite community and I know barely anyone who is open with their emotions. I think most of us are taught as children that our emotions are bad and to ignore them and that’s led to us being an extremely repressed people. I know I am and breaking out of that shell is very difficult.
I love you videos because you are the only Mennonite that I see that really embraces being Mennonite while also having a millennial side (like that hat hahaha) . I can speak plautdietsch but not on your level 👌. you able to convey so much more then most considering the limitations of our language and it's amazing. I also love the fact your from Chihuahua where my parents grew up #myRoots.

@@Spinnradler This sounds nothing like Danish. It probably is more difficult for a speaker of standard German (Hochdeutsch) to understand this than someone who speaks Dutch. I understand half of it as sounding like Plattdeutsch. The other half sounds like Swedish or Polish. It has developed quite different from Plattdeutsch in Germany.
It's Mennonite German. Basically, force Dutch farmers to speak Low German for a couple of centuries then kick them over to Russia for a little bit. After that, ship them off to the Americas around the 1880s. It's practically a creole. Greatest disappointment of my life was being a language nerd and finding out that my grandfather and his siblings all grew up speaking like this but didn't raise their kids bilingual.
Like Theroa said, East Low German has a lot of Dutch influence in general as Dutch, Frisian and Flemish settlers moved to Prussia (when Hannover and Westphalia was not part of Prussia), These settlers moved to areas like Brandenburg, Pomerania (North western Poland now) and East and West Prussia. Those East Low German dialects of Low German are basically extinct in their original terrritories since the speakers wwere driven out of their areas after WW2. But those East Low German variants had always been a bit distinct to the West Low German variants. The eastern once also had Polish, Kashubian, etc influence.
Big hi from St. Thomas Canada!Haha...my English and German come in together when I speak German. ..my grandma always thought it was funny but understood everything I tried to say lol great video! Oh and my hands are always cold too lol
It happens when you speak more than one language 😆 its a smoothie of words. Luckily English somehow is easier to understand if you know Plautdietsch so I guess that must've helped. Do you also get annoyed when your hands are warm for once? Its so uncomfortable haha
How Mennonites yes I think that did help a lot. I can understand a little Spanish but not enough to get by. My mom was born in chihuahua Mexico as well but moved to Canada at the age of 14 and she is almost 60 now. I get really annoyed with my cold hands and feet....rarely are they ever warm. Even in the middle of summer they are cold....it's a no win situation lol

haha this was really good and funny. Got here from the Yolo video and that's awesome that you have this page. I will ask my friends from various parts of Germany if they understand everything (they also speak various German dialects besides standard German). It would be cool to see a video on how the Mennonite towns look, if there are touristic things to do, and what the youth does after school or work I would guess? I feel like most reports and documentaries on the community are more superficial and this could be cool on a first hand account. Also love the food videos! Pie and soup at the same time? Interesting! Maybe have a front yard cleaning competition one day? haha and differences between the Mennonites int he USA, Canada and Mexico? Keep up the good work, I'll follow here and on Instagram! Cheers from London, UK!

Wow.. I‘m German and I can only grab a word here and there, to me it sounds more like a hard sounding Dutch dialect with an almost Swedish melody to it. I can understand a good bit when someone speaks Pennsylvania Dutch though. VERY interesting, and great that such a dialect has been preserved through the centuries!
Plautdietsch is a form of Low German and as such its bascially a separate language from (High) German. German: Ich habe geschlafen Dutch: Ik heb geslapen Plautdietsch: Ekj hebbe jeschloape (Mennonite / East Low German) Platdüütsk: Ik hev slapen (West Low German / Low Saxon) Dutch (Low Franconian) was traditionally the language between Low Saxon and High German which contains all the Central and Upper Francionian dialects that border to Alemannic and Bavarian. East Low German got quiet some influence from Dutch settlers, and later from High German.

Plautdietsch developed from Low Prussian Low German, which was indeed Low German / Low Saxon with influence from Dutch and Frisian settlers on the Baltic sea, and later High German influence as well.

My parents had a dirt floor for the first years when they were married and she also added pinol so it’s would smell good 😂 mom says that they added sawdust to the floor because my grandpa was so concerned about the floor getting damaged when people came over to visit 🙄😂
Thank you for the subtitles in your video. You'll get more subscribers I think if you use them. There are probably many who are curious about your channel, but don't understand german.
But also have them up there long enough to read. The one she puts up in brackets at 3:38 I was curious what it said and has to go back and try to pause it at exactly the right time, took me like a dozen tries cuz it’s only up for half a second!
You’re hilarious! Especially loved the eye brow tutorial! You should do more plautdietch make up videos!
Thank you! I will definitely make more of those haha Thank you for the feedback
I just want you to know you're awesome and that I am so happy to find you on here. I wish I could speak low German as good as you. It's so perfect.
I like how you mish-mash English and Plautdietsch sometimes. It’s how I would talk. From Winnipeg 🇨🇦
SuperJohn140 thank you so much 😊 really appreciate your positive comment
Super John you are Mexican too??
Lol, I live in Antwerp, we speak Dutch & most of it sounds reasonably closer to Flemish, than ordinary German. Nice vid, thx :) Also funny, that I know a few South African ppl too & I can certainly connect the dots now, by comparing some of the things you said lol. Groetjes uit Antwerpen, hier in Vlaanderen :)
I just love listening to this girl. She is fantastic and very beautiful. I love her accent.
This sounds very similar to the dialect 'Twents' that is spoken here in Enschede in the Netherlands.
Dietsche, I really enjoyed your show! Miss, you are gorgeous! Love your voice and of course you.
I look forwards to enjoy more shows.
Nice. Keep up the good work. My wife and I are enjoying your content. From Calgary Alberta
Loved it! From a kid that grew up in a southern SASK , Mennonite town.spoke low German at home.and at school, when we didn 't want the English kids to know what we were saying!!I have lost alot of it.F from Lethbridge Alberta.🇨🇦👍

@@Spinnradler gendach, etj veschtu mest olles...
@@Spinnradler This sounds nothing like Danish. It probably is more difficult for a speaker of standard German (Hochdeutsch) to understand this than someone who speaks Dutch. Especially for a Dutch person who speaks ‘Twents’ dialect it is not difficult to understand. I think most people from around here (Enschede) could understand a lot of what was said in this video.

Wow! i love it! you have a very interesting way of telling your story. i love the menonite culture and the people are always nice!
I understand half of it as sounding like Plattdeutsch. The other half sounds like Swedish or Polish.
It has developed quite different from Plattdeutsch in Germany.
Germany has over 100 dialect, she has no german from germany in her speech
I am Swedish and I speak fluent German, however, I just understand a few words.
It looked pretty and it smelled fresh and clean for about one or two days at least in our house. I’m talking about the sawdust on the floor:)
So awesome to see where you come from and how this started! Love these videos! 🙂
Thank you Marcela for all the informative things that you share. Keep it up. From BC Canada.

Thank you!! I'll check her channel out!
Food is such a big part of our culture you should make videos of that and share recepies
This is definitely in my plans :) Every gathering revolves around food!
I don't understand but I can't stop watching.... :)
And thus language is spoken Mexico, which is a fervently Spanish-speaking nation? How has it managed to thrive and keep stay alive?

haha this was really good and funny.
Esau Farfan thank you! Great ideas, I don’t have lots of time to make videos but I hope in 2019 I’ll have more time 😊 there’s a lot of videos on mennonites but they’re always about the traditional ones which in this area where I live, are the minority so I’d like to show the other side of things 😊

As a native speaker of Austrian German ya understand most words but the context not so much, I need subtitles. Yet many northern Germans don’t understand Austrian dialects either. At least I can understand Swiss German almost perfectly. 😎
German: Ich habe geschlafen
Dutch: Ik heb geslapen
Plautdietsch: Ekj hebbe jeschloape (Mennonite / East Low German)
Platdüütsk: Ik hev slapen (West Low German / Low Saxon)
Dutch (Low Franconian) was traditionally the language between Low Saxon and High German which contains all the Central and Upper Francionian dialects that border to Alemannic and Bavarian.
East Low German got quiet some influence from Dutch settlers, and later from High German.
Lower German is a seperaten language an official recognized in Germany and the Netherlands. Why so many people think, it is a dialect.
I love your chanels 👍🏻its very interesting how you speak 3 languages you are very unique 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻and lovely 😊 yo naci en Chihuahua algún día iremos a conocer los campos menonitas y nos gustaria conocerte my husband is from cuacte

In our home we speak a 50/50 mix of english and plautdietch. We call our mixed language "engdietch".
My question for you.
Did backlash from some of the more traditional mennonites inspire you to do some of your videos?
I get along great with traditional Mennonite and most find my videos funny. It’s more the ones that aren’t old colony that give me a hard time haha
I'm old colony and I find your videos quite funny. I'm thrilled to see my home country through the lens of your camera. You have some amazing pictures on your Instagram account.
I really enjoyed this video. You look beautiful btw!
Thank you!
Like the way you speak it is what I was raised up with. Just a little fast . I try to listen fast.
I am dutch and to me this sounds like a mixture of german, dutch and afrikaans
Plautdietsch developed from Low Prussian Low German, which was indeed Low German / Low Saxon with influence from Dutch and Frisian settlers on the Baltic sea, and later High German influence as well.
Hola!!

Thanks for the plugin. I'm unofficially retired from making Plautdiesche videos. I had a good run though... Like you said, there's not that much Plautdietsch content out there, and that's why I mainly started making them, but it needs to continue. All the best to you.
Well your videos are great! Definitely an inspiration for me :) Thank you

Thanks for sharing.
